09 Oct 2009TL;DR: In this paper, electric field strength and APD measurements have been performed to characterize electromagnetic interference in an industrial paper plant, and the interference level is correlated to the working mode of the electrical engines used in the process.
Abstract: It is well known that industrial and factory environments present considerable challenges for wireless communications. Because every industrial environment is different, and may offer a unique set of obstacles to effective wireless communication, a site characterization is needed at first step in determining improvements of existent wireless technologies to increase the reliability. In this work electric field strength and APD measurements have been performed to characterize electromagnetic interference in an industrial paper plant. Common characteristics of the industrial environments affecting wireless communication were identified. Additionally, results show high interference levels at the frequencies for the DECT band 1880-1890 MHz. The interference level is correlated to the working mode of the electrical engines used in the process.

TL;DR: This work uses a grand canonical approach to derive an analytical expression for the equilibrium distribution of strategies, and studies the properties of the solution as a function of the mean number of players, and compares them with a large data set of internet auctions.
Abstract: In lowest unique bid auctions, N players bid for an item. The winner is whoever places the lowest bid, provided that it is also unique. We use a grand canonical approach to derive an analytical expression for the equilibrium distribution of strategies. We then study the properties of the solution as a function of the mean number of players, and compare them with a large data set of internet auctions. The theory agrees with the data with striking accuracy for small population-size N, while for larger N a qualitatively different distribution is observed. We interpret this result as the emergence of two different regimes, one in which adaptation is feasible and one in which it is not. Our results question the actual possibility of a large population to adapt and find the optimal strategy when participating in a collective game.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors evaluate the detection performance of several commercial interference detectors and of a detector that uses the automatic gain control (AGC) level as a test statistic, and evaluate the performance of the AGC-based detection.
Abstract: We evaluate the detection performance of several commercial interference detectors and of a detector that uses the automatic gain control (AGC) level as a test statistic. The evaluations are based ...

TL;DR: In this paper, exposure to prolonged recumbency (bedrest), and thus reductions of intravascular pressure gradients, increases pressure distension in arteries/arterioles in the legs.
Abstract: We hypothesized that exposure to prolonged recumbency (bedrest), and thus reductions of intravascular pressure gradients, increases pressure distension in arteries/arterioles in the legs. Ten subje...

TL;DR: The results suggest either a static situation in which PUUV strains are regionally well adapted, or an ongoing process in which strains of PUUV circulate on a geographical scale not yet reliably described.
