TL;DR: Gender differences in outcome suggest the in utero effect of maternal smokeless tobacco use on male and female fetuses may differ, and maternal use of 'mishri' tobacco in pregnancy may be associated with the offsprings' low birth weight.
Abstract: A preliminary study of maternal smokeless tobacco use, mostly oral applications of burnt tobacco or 'mishri', in pregnancy showed 65 of 178 singleton liveborns occurred to users and 113 to non-users in Bombay, India Eighty-three newborns, 42 to maternal tobacco users and 41 to non-users were 01, NS) for male and 696 (confidence interval 25-194, P < 00005), for female newborns compared to normal birthweight boys and girls, respectively Male:female newborns were 806:100 in maternal tobacco users compared to 1055:100 in non-users Defining LBW as < 20 kg yielded an odds ratio of 54 (confidence interval 18-152, P < 0005) in maternal tobacco users' offspring For babies weighing 2-25 kg at birth it was 276 (confidence interval 14-55, P < 001) Maternal use of 'mishri' tobacco in pregnancy may be associated with (1) the offsprings' low birth weight, (2) low birth weights in girls more than in boys; (3) decreased male:female ratio in live newborns, and (4) low birth weight of < 20 kg more than of 2-25 kg Studies are needed to substantiate these findings Gender differences in outcome suggest the in utero effect of maternal smokeless tobacco use on male and female fetuses may differ

TL;DR: The submental flap, though not a widely used flap, is extremely useful in orofacial reconstruction and particularly in the post oncological setting and its technique, complications and precautions adopted in its use are described.
Abstract: The submental flap, though not a widely used flap, is extremely useful in orofacial reconstruction. We present our experience with this flap particularly in the post oncological setting and describe its technique, complications and precautions adopted in its use. Between January 2001 and January 2007 we performed 20 submental flaps for primary reconstruction of post tumour excision defects in the intraoral and facial region. The procedure was successful in all cases without any complete flap loss. The complications encountered were partial flap loss in one case, haematoma in two cases and venous congestion in one case which was salvaged. Marginal mandibular nerve function was preserved in all cases.

TL;DR: A case of primary UES is reported which had a multilocular cystic appearance resembling a hydatid cyst on imaging, and usually appears on CT and ultrasound as a predominantly solid mass with or without cystic areas.
Abstract: Undifferentiated (embryonal) sarcoma (UES) is a very rare primary malignant tumour of the liver; typically presenting in later childhood. This tumour usually appears on CT and ultrasound as a predominantly solid mass with or without cystic areas. We report a case of primary UES which had a multilocular cystic appearance resembling a hydatid cyst on imaging.

TL;DR: High‐resolution ultrasonography is a useful technique for diagnosing scrotal filariasis in symptomatic patients and is very useful in the follow‐up period for assessing the response of worms to treatment.
Abstract: Objective. To determine the value of the filarial dance sign as a diagnostic sign of scrotal filarial infection and to recognize unsuspected scrotal filariasis by this sign. Methods. Eight symptomatic patients in whom the filarial dance sign was shown on high-resolution ultrasonography were studied, investigated, and followed after treatment with diethylcarbamazine citrate. Two patients underwent fine-needle aspiration. Results. Multiple foci (nests) of motile (live) filarial worms were observed in most patients Fine-needle aspiration of the dilated lymphatic vessels in 2 patients confirmed the presence of microfilariae. Five of 8 patients had a favorable response to treatment with diethylcarbamazine citrate. Conclusions. High-resolution ultrasonography is a useful technique for diagnosing scrotal filariasis in symptomatic patients and is very useful in the follow-up period for assessing the response o 4 worms to treatment.
