TL;DR: Investigating whether subsets of indolent B‐cell non‐Hodgkin's lymphoma (IB‐NHL) differ in the expression of the bcl‐2 family members found that Expression of b cl‐2 and bcl•X proteins was moderate/high among most IB‐N Hockey subsets and bak proteins were moderate/low among the different subsets.
Abstract: The bcl-2 family of proteins comprises both antagonists and agonists of apoptosis. We have investigated whether subsets of indolent B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (IB-NHL) differ in the expression of the bcl-2 family members; 116 cases of IB-NHL, composed of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL, n = 48), follicular lymphoma (FL, n = 38), marginal zone B-cell lymphoma (MZBCL, n = 15), and mantle cell lymphoma (MCL, n = 15), were investigated for expression of bcl-2, bcl-X, mcl-1, bax, and bak proteins by immunohistochemistry. Expression of bcl-2 and bcl-X proteins was moderate/high among most IB-NHLs. Expression of mcl-1 was low/absent in most cases of CLL and MCL and low/moderate in most cases of FL and MZBCL. Most MCLs did not express bax protein. Bax expression was absent/low among most cases of CLL and low/moderate among most cases of FL and MZBCL. Expression of bak was moderate/low among most cases of CLL, MZBCL, and MCL but was absent/low among most cases of FL. The different subsets of IB-NHLs differ in their expression of mcl-1, bax, and bak proteins. Am. J. Hematol. 70:278–282, 2002. © 2002 Wiley-Liss, Inc.

TL;DR: Observations that 80–90% of breast recurrences after breast conservative surgery and WBI occur in the tumor bed questions the need for protracted elective WBI, and provides the rationale for accelerated-partial-breast irradiation (APBI) of small cancers without adverse features predisposing to multicentric recurrence.
Abstract: Radical surgical treatment for breast cancer has become superseded by breast conserving surgery with protracted whole breast irradiation. The last decade has seen the emergence of a new treatment paradigm for early breast cancer in the form of partial breast treatment with conservative surgery and accelerated partial breast irradiation. Survival, cosmetic, and cost implications are comprehensively discussed.

TL;DR: Close clinical monitoring of children for early diagnosis of this complication is recommended and Ultrasonography can be used as a corroborative investigation for diagnosis along with serum chemistries.
Abstract: A major complication of L-asparaginase therapy in acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is pancreatitis. Among the 915 cases of ALL seen over last 10 years, 19 (2%) developed pancreatitis. Median age was 5.5 years with a median duration of symptoms of 4 weeks. All cases had raised serum amylase and lipase. Pancreatitis was not related to the dose/duration of L-asparaginase therapy. Ultrasonography can be used as a corroborative investigation for diagnosis along with serum chemistries. Close clinical monitoring of children for early diagnosis of this complication is recommended.

TL;DR: Good compliance rates along with a proper system of referral, further investigations, confirmation of diagnosis and treatment as demonstrated in this trial are crucial for successful screening programmes.
Abstract: Objectives The study aims to investigate the efficacy of screening by low-cost technology in down-staging and reduction of mortality due to breast and cervix cancer. Methods The present trial is a community-based, cluster randomised controlled cohort study on screening for breast and cervix cancers (clinical breast examination and visual inspection of the cervix after application of 4% acetic acid). Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses are conducted to identify the predictors of compliance to referral among screen-positive women and to treatment among cancer cases. Results The compliance to diagnostic investigations is 73% among screen-positive women referred for breast cancer and 79% among women referred for cervix cancer. Younger women, women working in service or being self-employed, school level-educated women, mother tongue Marathi, participation in screening in all 3 rounds and women referred as screen positive for cervix cancer had higher compliance to diagnostic investigations. The compliance to treatment completion is higher in women diagnosed with breast cancer, at 95%, compared to 86% for cervix cancers and 81% for cervix pre-cancers. Conclusions Good compliance rates along with a proper system of referral, further investigations, confirmation of diagnosis and treatment as demonstrated in this trial are crucial for successful screening programmes.
