Abstract: A variety of precipitative synsedimentary CaCO3 cements lines or fills cavities and surrounds sediment particles within Recent algal cup reefs which dot the rim of the Bermuda platform. These include aragonite needle, spherulitic, and lath cements as well as calcite micrite, palisade, scale, and blocky cements, listed according to respective relative abundances. No distribution pattern of cements is apparent; various combinations of three or four cements are found in almost every sample or thin section. From the occurrence of various cements, factors determining composition and fabric are deduced: Various sequences of two or three precipitative cements result from changes in microenvironment; the only cause of such change recognized is the entrance of endolithic algae into partly cemented cavities. This study provides some insight into the origin of submarine cements and a basis for comparative interpretation of cements in fossil marine environments, especially fossil reefs.

Abstract: The inner shelf platform off North Eleuthera consists of a series of terraces at 6 m, 8 m, 20 m, and 35 m depth, respectively. The boundary between 6 and 8 m terraces is marked by a near continuous reef ridge, landward and seaward of which isolated reef structures are found. Reefs are aggregates of pillar structures, which in turn are composed of columnar, club-shaped or mushroom-shaped pillars of corals. The dominant primary framebuilder above 3 m depth isAcropora palmata; below corals of the generaMontastrea andDiploria, Porites astreoides andP. porites also contribute to the frame, as does the hydrozoanMillepora. The secondary framebuilders start developing and changing the shape of the frame as soon as they find suitable substrates; most important are coralline red algae, which encrust internal and external surfaces, but also may fuse the components of the frame; other organisms just add to the frame. In contrast boring and rasping organisms destroy the frame. Constructing or destructing organisms were found living on every surface, external or internal, accreting or diminishing.

Abstract: Summary Relevant data as to the sex of the first figure drawn in the DAP were pooled from 19 studies using 5- to 18-year old Ss. 83% of the 4989 boys and 78% of the 4443 girls showed self-sex preference. However, considering age in detail the self-sex proportion of boys significantly exceeds that of girls only from the 11th year on. A significant difference of opposite direction was found with the 7-year olds, but it is impossible so far to determine whether this is an artifact. Results are tentatively explained in terms of the culturally determined learning of sex-role identification.

Abstract: Die Umstromung von einzelnen Kugelblasen mit innerer Zirkulation wurde theoretisch untersucht. Die Differentialgleichungen, die das Geschwindigkeits- und Druckfeld in der Umgebung der Blase beschreiben, berucksichtigen die vollstandigen Tragheitsglieder. Die Rechnungen haben ergeben, daszlig; sich die Stromung bis Re = 200 mit Sicherheit auf der Blasenruckseite nicht ablost. Es kommt vermutlich erst dann zu Ablosungen, wenn die Kugelblase deformiert wird, d. h. wenn die Kugelblase wegen Volumvergroszlig;erung in die Ellipsoidblase ubergeht. Die ablosungsfreie Umstromung der Kugelblase ist eine Folge der Beweglichkeit der Phasengrenzflache. Aus den berechneten Geschwindigkeits- und Druckverteilungen um die Blasen lieszlig;en sich die Widerstandsgesetze ermitteln, fur die einfache Gleichungen aufgestellt wurden. Sie werden durch die Ergebnisse experimenteller Untersuchungen sehr gut bestatigt. Die Gesetze werden mit bereits bekannten dazu verwendet, die Aufstiegsbewegung formbestandiger und formdynamischer Blasen in zusammenfassender Weise zu behandeln.

Abstract: Epoxides behave as bases in the presence of catalytic quantities of halide ions. They convert halogenated hydrocarbons into olefins, suitable phosphonium salts into ylides, and haloforms into dihalocarbenes. Kinetic studies with the aid of JR and NMR spectroscopy show that the species that functions as the proton acceptor is neither the epoxide ion nor the halide ion, but the 2-haloethoxide ion.

Abstract: Das in der Uberschrift definierte Randwertproblem kann nicht mit den bekannten Mitteln der Potentialtheorie gelost werden. Um die Randbedingungen erfullen zu konnen erweist sich die Einfuhrung eines neuen Vektorfeldes als zweckmasig, dessen Wirbel das konventionelle quellenfreie Vektorpotential ergeben. Allgemeine Ausdrucke in Form von Fourier-Integralen werden fur die Verteilung und fur die Stromfunktion der Wirbelstrome abgeleitet. Die aufgestellten allgemeinen Beziehungen werden mit Hilfe bekannter Ergebnisse fur den einfachen Sonderfall extrem hoher Frequenzen kontrolliert.

Abstract: Die folgende Arbeit enthalt einen uberblick uber die theoretische Beschreibung der strahlungslosen Rekombination in Halbleitern. Dabei werden Mehrphononenprozesse, Kaskadenprozesse, Auger-Prozesse, phononenassistierte Auger-Prozesse und Plasmonenprozesse betrachtet. Wahrend die Theorie der Mehrphononenprozesse zu keiner direkten Anwendung bei Halbleitern fuhrt, gelingt mit den Kaskadenprozessen eine Deutung der Rekombination von Ladungstragern mit flach liegenden Storstellen in Ge und Si. Auger-Prozesse fuhren in Verbindung mit phononenassistierten Auger-Prozessen zu einer weitgehenden Erklarung der Lebensdauerkurve fur Band-Band-Ubergange in InSb. Plasmonenprozesse sind bei hohen Tragerdichten von Bedeutung, bei denen aber auch Auger-Prozesse eine Rolle spielen konnen.

Abstract: Bei der Untersuchung zahlreicher Arten der sudafrikanischen Tribus Arctotideae wurden aus verschiedenen Arten der Gattung Berkheya mehrere neue Thiophenacetylenverbindungen isoliert und fur diese die Strukturen 6, 8–13, 15–17, 19–22 vorgeschlagen. Mogliche neue biogenetische Gesichtspunkte werden diskutiert. Weiterhin werden gewisse chemotaxonomische Aspekte aufgezeigt.
Polyacetylenic Compounds, 205. On the Constituents of the Tribe Arctotideae
By investigation of numerous species of the Southafrican tribe Arctotideae from different species of the genus Berkheya several new thiophene-acetylenic compounds have been isolated for which the structures 6, 8–13, 15–17, 19–22 are proposed. Possible new biogenetic viewpoints are discussed. Furtheron some chemotaxonomical aspects are pointed out.
