TL;DR: The compound wiretap channel is considered, which generalizes Wyner's wiretap model to allow the channels to the (legitimate) receiver and to the eavesdropper to take a number of possible states, and the secrecy capacity is established and an achievable is given for the general case.
Abstract: This paper considers the compound wiretap channel, which generalizes Wyner's wiretap model to allow the channels to the (legitimate) receiver and to the eavesdropper to take a number of possible states. No matter which states occur, the transmitter guarantees that the receiver decodes its message and that the eavesdropper is kept in full ignorance about the message. The compound wiretap channel can also be viewed as a multicast channel with multiple eavesdroppers, in which the transmitter sends information to all receivers and keeps the information secret from all eavesdroppers. For the discrete memoryless channel, lower and upper bounds on the secrecy capacity are derived. The secrecy capacity is established for the degraded channel and the semideterministic channel with one receiver. The parallel Gaussian channel is further studied. The secrecy capacity and the secrecy degree of freedom (s.d.o. f.) are derived for the degraded case with one receiver. Schemes to achieve the s.d.o. f. for the case with two receivers and two eavesdroppers are constructed to demonstrate the necessity of a prefix channel in encoder design. Finally, the multi-antenna (i.e., MIMO) compound wiretap channel is studied. The secrecy capacity is established for the degraded case and an achievable s.d.o. f. is given for the general case.

TL;DR: This paper presents a new approach for resolving lexical ambiguities in one language using statistical data from a monolingual corpus of another language, which exploits the differences between mappings of words to senses in different languages.
Abstract: This paper presents a new approach for resolving lexical ambiguities in one language using statistical data from a monolingual corpus of another language. This approach exploits the differences between mappings of words to senses in different languages. The paper concentrates on the problem of target word selection in machine translation, for which the approach is directly applicable. The presented algorithm identifies syntactic relations between words, using a source language parser, and maps the alternative interpretations of these relations to the target language, using a bilingual lexicon. The preferred senses are then selected according to statistics on lexical relations in the target language. The selection is based on a statistical model and on a constraint propagation algorithm, which simultaneously handles all ambiguities in the sentence. The method was evaluated using three sets of Hebrew and German examples and was found to be very useful for disambiguation. The paper includes a detailed comparative analysis of statistical sense disambiguation methods.

TL;DR: It has been demonstrated that a single-layer outage approach is reasonably efficient in the MIMO setting in terms of the average reliably decoded rate.
Abstract: A broadcast transmission strategy for the slowly fading Gaussian multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel is introduced. This broadcast strategy is an extension of the single-input single-output (SISO) broadcast approach. Perfect channel state information (CSI) is assumed known at the receiver end only. This strategy facilitates to adapt the reliably decoded rate to the actual channel state without having any feedback link to the transmitter. Transmission of layered coded information is motivated by the theory of majorization. We derive the basic equations characterizing achievable rates of the strategy. Several ad hoc approximations to the achievable region are considered and their performance is compared with the SISO setting and the ergodic capacity. It has been demonstrated that a single-layer outage approach is reasonably efficient in the MIMO setting in terms of the average reliably decoded rate. A multiple-access channel (MAC) broadcast approach is also applied for the MIMO case, and demonstrated to be relatively efficient.

TL;DR: The cellulosome is an extracellular supramolecular machine that can efficiently degrade crystalline cellulosic substrates and associated plant cell wall polysaccharides, thus providing individual microbial cells with a direct competitive advantage in the utilization of the soluble hydrolysis products.
