TL;DR: In this article, the authors address the issue of convergence of the banking system in Europe using a set of data from 27 countries of Europe and show that the banks haven't changed their financial and ownership structure.
Abstract: The European banking system is not isomorphic. The differences can be traced to the differences in their local economy development, legal origin, ownership status, corporate governance system, etc. The 2008 crises has found the banking system of Europe in a transition status. The adoption of Euro, the establishment of the European Central Bank, the Basil III initiative, the adoption of legal isomorphism as policy in E.U., and finally the crises have been creating a unique environment for the banking system. The paper will address the issue of convergence of the banking system in Europe using a set of data from 27 countries of Europe. The analysis shows that the banks haven't changed their financial and ownership structure. Some changes in strategy are not adequate to formulate the opinion that the banking sector in Europe is different than the one before it.

TL;DR: The primary targets of StoRES project towards eliminating the uncertainties related to battery storage are outlined, coupled PV-BES residential storage systems will be developed in five countries aiming at optimizing the utilization of storage towards achieving higher PV penetration.
Abstract: Electrochemical storage technology and especially battery energy storage (BES) is emerging as one of the fastest growing storage technologies for grid-connected applications. It has an important role to play in the proposed energy transition offering suitable services for domestic and utility scale applications such as the balancing of the intermittent electricity generated by solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. On the other hand, barriers concerning security and financial compensation must be lifted before it becomes a reliable and profitable option. This paper outlines the primary targets of StoRES project towards eliminating the uncertainties related to battery storage. For this purpose, coupled PV-BES residential storage systems will be developed in five countries aiming at optimizing the utilization of storage towards achieving higher PV penetration. The process of selecting the pilot sites in each country is analysed highlighting the importance of the selection criteria. Another focus of this paper is the implementation of a community (social) storage system which will be installed only in Cyprus. This will be connected to the same distribution feeder supplying the local residential pilot systems in order to make a credible comparison between the centralized and distributed storage. In light of the above, a market research was performed in order to determine and compare the system configurations that will be applied for the pilot system design. Finally, the methodology for acquiring and monitoring the data from the pilot sites along with the expected outputs is outlined.

TL;DR: A feedforward back-propagation NN was developed using data obtained from experimental work conducted on a CNC milling machine center according to the principles of Taguchi's design of experiments method and it was found that NN approach can be applied easily on designed experiments and predictions can be achieved, fast and quite accurately.
Abstract: A Neural Network modelling approach is presented for the prediction of surface texture parameters during end milling of aluminium alloy 5083. Eighteen carbide end mill cutters were manufactured by a five axis grinding machine and assigned to mill eighteen pockets having different combinations of geometry parameters and cutting parameter values, according to the L18 (2x3) standard orthogonal array. A feedforward back-propagation NN was developed using data obtained from experimental work conducted on a CNC milling machine center according to the principles of Taguchi’s design of experiments method. It was found that NN approach can be applied easily on designed experiments and predictions can be achieved, fast and quite accurately.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a new system architecture and testbed application implementation called sheep manager, which uses near field communication (NFC) technology and custom NFC data exchange format records for the identification and attributes recording of sheep inside a flock.
Abstract: This paper presents a new system architecture and test-bed application implementation called sheep manager. Sheep manager system uses near field communication (NFC) technology and custom NFC data exchange format records for the identification and attributes recording of sheep inside a flock. Sheep manager system also utilises sensors for real-time measurements and recording of raw milk extraction per ewe. All recorded information are then stored into an application server following an HTTP representational state transfer protocol specification. The authors also propose an algorithm for sheep breed selection that uses feedback information from past successful breeds in order to increase herd milk productivity.

TL;DR: The conducted measurements and the use of the modified NSFWQI revealed that during the inundation period of Ilarion Reservoir, its water quality was “moderate” and that the deviations were softened through time, leading to “good” water quality during its maturation period.
Abstract: In this work, a comparative study on the water quality characteristics of two in-line water reservoirs (artificial lakes) in Aliakmon River (Western Macedonia, Greece) is performed. Polyfytos Reservoir and Ilarion Reservoir were created in 1975 and 2012 respectively, in order to serve the homonymous hydroelectric stations. In young artificial lakes, severe deterioration of water quality may occur; thus, the monitoring and assessment of their water quality characteristics and their statistical interpretation are of great importance. In order to evaluate any temporal or spatial variations and to characterize water quality of these two in-line water reservoirs, water quality data from measurements conducted from 2012 to 2015 were statistically processed and interpreted by using a modified National Sanitation Foundation water quality index (WQI). The water physicochemical characteristics of the two reservoirs were found to be generally within the legislation limits, with relatively small temporal and spatial variations. Although Polyfytos Reservoir showed no significant deviations of its water quality, Ilarion Reservoir exhibited deviations in total Kjeldahl nitrogen, nitrite nitrogen, total suspended solids, and turbidity due to the inundated vegetation decomposition. The conducted measurements and the use of the modified NSFWQI revealed that during the inundation period of Ilarion Reservoir, its water quality was "moderate" and that the deviations were softened through time, leading to "good" water quality during its maturation period. Three years since the creation of Ilarion Reservoir, water quality does not match that of Aliakmon River (feeding water) or that of the stabilized reservoir (Polyfytos Reservoir), whose quality is characterized as "high." The use of a WQI, such as the proposed modified NSFWQI, for evaluating water quality of each sampling site and of an entire water system proved to be a rapid and relatively accurate assessment tool.
