Abstract: amination was negative. White blood count was I1,~)1>0 with 75 per cent l~olvrmorpl~ontrclears. It was initially thought that the patient might have acute ciolecystitis (although rare in children) cornpiicatecl by septic shock. She was accordingly treated with intravenous fllzids, corticosteroids, antibiotics, and a beta-adrenergic stimulant. One hour after this treatment was started, urticarial lesions appeared all over the skin, which subsided upon intramuscular injection of promethazine. Two hours later, the radial pulse was felt for the first time and a blood pressure of 70 mm Hg maxima was recorded. By the second hospital day, the blood pressure had increased to ~(~l~-5 iiim Hg, then gradually rising to 11(~/ 60 during the third day. A plain abdominal x-ray at this time showed
