TL;DR: Different effluent streams of a small pulp mill utilizing agriresidues were characterized for their pollution load and were decolorized with the white rot fungus Trametes versicolor strain B7, allowing its use in large amounts and eliminating the problem of recycling the biomass.

TL;DR: The effect of a hydrolyzed protein preparation on the growth and biomass yield of the blue-gree alga Spirulina platensis was studied and increased productivity correlated with an increase in the level of nitrogen assimilating enzymes, nitrate reductase and glutamine synthetase.
Abstract: The effect of a hydrolyzed protein preparation on the growth and biomass yield of the blue-gree algaSpirulina platensis was studied. At the optimum dosage, the hydrolysate enhancedSpirulina productivity by almost 40% when compared to untreated cultures. This increased productivity correlated with an increase in the level of nitrogen assimilating enzymes, nitrate reductase and glutamine synthetase.

TL;DR: In this article, a decision-making methodology based on fuzzy set theory is used to determine the optimal generation dispatch with due consideration of uncertainties in system production cost and randomness of load demand.
Abstract: Recently, multiple objective decision making has been well established as a practical approach to seek satisfactory solutions to decision making problems in limited resources, information and cognitive ability of the Decision Maker (DM). In the past, it was normal to assume well behaved and deterministic system data. Now the trend is to assume them variable and uncertain for more realistic approach. This paper deals with decision making methodology based on fuzzy set theory in order to determine the optimal generation dispatch with due consideration of uncertainties in system production cost and randomness of load demand. The classical economic dispatch problem is formulated as stochastic multiobjective optimisation problem where operating cost and variance of generation mismatch are two non-commensurable objectives. Such problems are solved to generate non-inferior solutions. Weighted sum technique is used to simulate trade_off relation among the conflicting objectives in the non-inferior domain...

TL;DR: Mass cultivation of microalgae for commercial applications suffers from poor productivities when measured against laboratory results or theoretical projections, so it was discovered that addition of eucalyptus kraft black liquor enhanced biomass productivity in outdoor cultures of Spirulina.
Abstract: Mass cultivation of microalgae for commercial applications suffers from poor productivities when measured against laboratory results or theoretical projections. In an effort to reduce this gap it was discovered that addition of eucalyptus kraft black liquor (BL) enhanced biomass productivity in outdoor cultures of Spirulina by increasing growth rate by 38% and biomass yield by 43%. BL treatment resulted in elevation of nitrogen assimilating enzyme activities and efficiency of phosphate utilization. Analyses of forenoon and afternoon oxygen production rates (OPRs) indicated higher photosynthetic and respiratory activity in BL-treated cultures compared to untreated cultures.

TL;DR: The factors enhancing Spirulina biomass productivity were insoluble at low pH, of low molecular mass and stable to high temperature.
Abstract: Mass cultivation of Spirulina for commercial application suffers from poor productivity when measured against laboratory results or theoretical projections. Wider applications of algal products require that this gap be reduced. Addition of eucalyptus kraft black liquor at a maximum of 0.1% to Spirulina cultures enhanced biomass productivity by at least 40%. The factors enhancing Spirulina biomass productivity were insoluble at low pH, of low molecular mass and stable to high temperature. Single addition of kraft black liquor in outdoor continuous cultures afforded sustained enhancement in biomass productivity for at least eight weeks.
