TL;DR: In this article, a multiphase Euler-Lagrange model was adopted to predict the solid particle erosion wear in a 90° pipe bend for the flow of bottom ash-water suspension.
Abstract: In the present study, erosion wear behavior of slurry pipeline due to solid–liquid suspension in the pipeline has been investigated using commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code FLUENT. A multiphase Euler–Lagrange model was adopted to predict the solid particle erosion wear in a 90° pipe bend for the flow of bottom ash–water suspension. A standard k–e turbulence modeling scheme was used to simulate the flow through the pipeline. Water and bottom ash were taken as liquid and as a dispersed phase of solid–liquid mixture, respectively. A simulation study for erosion wear in a pipe bend was carried out to investigate the influence of various parameters including velocity, solid concentration, and particle size. The velocity of the bottom ash–water suspension varied from 0.5 to 2.5 m/s for solid concentrations with a range of 2.5 to 10.0% (by volume). The particle diameters of the bottom ash were 162 and 300 µm. The simulation results agree with the results of previous studies.

01 Feb 2021TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyzed the efficiency and acceptability of e-learning tools among Indian students during the COVID-19 lockdown and evaluated the impact of elearning on the environment and public health during the lockdown.
Abstract: E-learning is the most promising venture in the entire world During the COVID-19 lockdown, e-learning is successfully providing potential information to the students and researchers In developing nations like India, with limited resources, e-learning tools and platforms provide a chance to make education available to middle and low income households This paper gives insights about three different online services, namely Google Classroom, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams being used by three different educational institutions We aim to analyze the efficiency and acceptability of e-learning tools among Indian students during the COVID-19 lockdown The paper also aims to evaluate the impact of e-learning on the environment and public health during COVID-19 lockdown It is found that e-learning has potential to reduce carbon emissions, which has beneficial impact on the environment However, the mental health is impacted as e-learning may lead to self-isolation and reduction in academic achievements that may lead to anxiety and mental depression Due to usage of electronic devices for learning, the eyes and neck muscles may be put in strain, having deleterious effects on physical health

TL;DR: The proposed genetic algorithm (GA)-based threshold-sensitive energy-efficient routing protocol (TERP) is proposed to prolong network lifetime and significantly outperforms existing protocols in terms of energy consumption, system lifetime and stability period.
Abstract: The widespread use of wireless sensor devices and their advancements in terms of size, deployment cost and user-friendly interface have given rise to many applications of wireless sensor networks (WSNs). WSNs need to utilize routing techniques to forward data samples from event regions to sink via minimum cost links. Clustering is a commonly used data aggregation technique in which nodes are organized into groups in order to reduce the energy consumption. However, in clustering protocols, cluster-head (CH) has to bear an additional load for coordinating various activities within the cluster. Therefore, proper CH selection and their load balancing using efficient routing protocol is a critical aspect for the long-run operation of WSN. In this paper, genetic algorithm (GA)-based threshold-sensitive energy-efficient routing protocol (TERP) is proposed to prolong network lifetime. Multi-hop communication between CHs and base station (BS) is utilized using GA to achieve optimal link cost for load balancing of distant CHs and energy minimization. The paper also considers stability-aware model of TERP named stable TERP (STERP) so as to extend the stability period (time interval from initial time to the death of first node) of the network. In STERP, energy-aware heuristics is applied for CH selection in order to improve the stability period. Analysis and simulation results demonstrate that the proposed methodology significantly outperforms existing protocols in terms of energy consumption, system lifetime and stability period.

TL;DR: In this paper, acoustic and structural properties of calcium borate glasses were studied at ambient temperature using a pulse echo overlap method, and the results indicated that the calcium oxide enters the glass network as a modifier by occupying the interstitial spaces in the network and by increasing the nonbridging oxygen atoms (NBOs).
Abstract: Acoustic and structural properties of x CaO · (1–x ) B2O3 (02 ≤ x ≥ 07) glass system have been studied at ambient temperature The ultrasonic velocity and attenuation for different compositions of calcium borate glasses were measured at 5 MHz at room temperature (303 K) using a pulse echo overlap method The elastic moduli, Debye temperature, Poisson's ratio and other acoustic parameters have been obtained from experimental data Fourier transform infrared spectroscopic analysis has been used to further support the results of acoustic studies The results obtained indicate that the calcium oxide enters the glass network as a modifier by occupying the interstitial spaces in the network and by increasing the nonbridging oxygen atoms (NBOs) (© 2006 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co KGaA, Weinheim)
