TL;DR: A multilevel dominant eigenvector estimation algorithm is used to develop a new run-length texture feature extraction algorithm that preserves much of the texture information in run- lengths matrices and significantly improves image classification accuracy over traditional run- length techniques.
Abstract: We use a multilevel dominant eigenvector estimation algorithm to develop a new run-length texture feature extraction algorithm that preserves much of the texture information in run-length matrices and significantly improves image classification accuracy over traditional run-length techniques. The advantage of this approach is demonstrated experimentally by the classification of two texture data sets. Comparisons with other methods demonstrate that the run-length matrices contain great discriminatory information and that a good method of extracting such information is of paramount importance to successful classification.

TL;DR: A new plasmonic catalyst of Au supported on BiOCl containing oxygen vacancies photocatalyzes selective benzyl alcohol oxidation with O2 under visible light through synergistic action of plAsmonic hot electrons and holes.
Abstract: Selective organic transformation under mild conditions constitutes a challenge in green chemistry, especially for alcohol oxidation, which typically requires environmentally unfriendly oxidants. Here, we report a new plasmonic catalyst of Au supported on BiOCl containing oxygen vacancies. It photocatalyzes selective benzyl alcohol oxidation with O2 under visible light through synergistic action of plasmonic hot electrons and holes. Oxygen vacancies on BiOCl facilitate the trapping and transfer of plasmonic hot electrons to adsorbed O2, producing •O2– radicals, while plasmonic hot holes remaining on the Au surface mildly oxidize benzyl alcohol to corresponding carbon-centered radicals. The hypothesized concerted ring addition between these two radical species on the BiOCl surface highly favors the production of benzaldehyde along with an unexpected oxygen atom transfer from O2 to the product. The results and understanding acquired in this study, based on the full utilization of hot charge carriers in a pla...

TL;DR: Li et al. as mentioned in this paper found that abnormal related sales are not entirely accrual-based but can be cash-based as well, and they serve as a substitute rather than complement to accruals management for meeting earnings targets.
Abstract: Based on a sample of Chinese listed firms from 1998 through 2002, this paper documents that listed firms prop up earnings by using abnormal related sales to their controlling owners. Such related sales propping is more prevalent among state-owned firms and in regions with weaker economic institutions. We also find that these abnormal related sales are not entirely accrual-based but can be cash-based as well, and they serve as a substitute rather than complement to accruals management for meeting earnings targets. Since these abnormal related sales can be cash-based, there is significant cash transfer via related lending from listed firms back to controlling owners after the propping. However, no cash transfer via related lending is found to be associated with accruals earnings management.
