TL;DR: The study confirmed the existence of a distinct correlation beween the histologic type of the tumor, its gross appearance, and the clinical course of the disease, as compared with other types of hepatoblastoma.
Abstract: Clinical data and morphological materials from 70 cases of liver-cell carcinoma in infants and children in Japan were collected and studied. The cases were classified into 4 types according to the histopathologic appearance of the epithelial components: 1. adult type; 2. anaplastic type; 3. embryonal type; and 4. fetal type. The study confirmed the existence of a distinct correlation beween the histologic type of the tumor, its gross appearance, and the clinical course of the disease. Twenty-seven of the 70 cases underwent radical surgery. Postoperative prognosis was studied in these cases according to histologic types of tumor. Of 9 long-term survivors (i.e., surviving more than 2 years), 7 were found to belong to the fetal type. No difference was found in prognosis between the cases with and without osteoid tissue in tumor. The benign character of the fetal type, as compared with other types of hepatoblastoma, was demonstrated even in infants under 12 months of age.

TL;DR: In group age 3, gils are superior to boys on both dichotic and monaural separation abilities but there is no difference between boys and girls in the older age groups.
Abstract: Paired spoken words were presented to 80 normal children with range from 3 to 6 years and 5 young, adults in such a way that different words arrived simultaneously at the two ears (dichotic listening) and at the one ear (monaural listening) to observe the development of dichotic and monaural separation abilities. The results demonstrated that in case of dichotic listening, significantly more words were recognized from the right ear than from the left ear. On the other hand, in monaural listening the results were almost identical for each ear. The monaural separation ability is inferior to the dichotic separation ability in all age groups. Dichotic and monaural separation, abilities develop as with ageing. Six-year old children and young adults achieve almost identioal results. In group age 3, gils are superior to boys on both dichotic and monaural separation abilities but there is no difference between boys and girls in the older age groups.

TL;DR: In this paper, the M, N 1, N 2 and N 3 emission bands were found near the band edge in CuCl single crystal with excitation by the two-photon absorption of a Q-switched ruby laser.
Abstract: New emission bands called the M , N 1 , N 2 and N 3 bands have been found near the band edge in CuCl single crystal with excitation by the two-photon absorption of a Q -switched ruby laser. All emission intensities show non-linear dependences upon the excitation intensity. One of them, the M band located at λ3919 A at 4.2°K, is concluded as the radiative decay of a free excitonic molecule. The shape variation and peak shift to the low energy side of the M emission band with respect to the increase of the laser power are similar to those due to the raising of temperature. The line shape is an inverted replica of the Maxwell distribution. The system of the excitonic molecule has been concluded to have the effective temperature which is higher than the lattice temperature in the high density state of excitonic molecule. The mechanism of the radiative decomposition of the excitonic molecule has been discussed.

TL;DR: In this article, the activity of carbon in austenite has been obtained by CO2/CO equilibration of Fe-C alloys in the temperature range 900° to 1400°C.
Abstract: New data on the activity of carbon in austenite have been obtained by CO2/CO equilibration of Fe-C alloys in the temperature range 900° to 1400°C. Equations for the thermodynamic properties of carbon and iron in austenite are obtained from the data combined with selected data from the literature. A slightly modified phase diagram is presented. The stability of cementite is also determined from data published earlier and the results of the present study. Parameters of the various models of the behavior of carbon in austenite taken from the literature are also calculated from the data.

TL;DR: In this paper, the problem of diffuse reflection, transmission and emission of infrared radiation by water clouds is investigated in the wavelength region from 5-50 µm, where the drop-size distribution is assumed to be that of altostratus measured by Diem.
Abstract: The problem of diffuse reflection, transmission and emission of infrared radiation by water clouds is investigated in the wavelength region from 5–50 μ. The drop-size distribution of clouds is assumed to be that of altostratus measured by Diem. The phase function and other optical properties of the clouds are estimated from the value of the refractive index of water proposed by Pontier and Dechambenoy. Radiative processes due to both cloud droplets and water vapor in the cloud are taken into account, and a method of averaging the solution over a spectral interval including a number of absorption lines is developed.

TL;DR: In this article, a spin ordering in a spin-pair system is theoretically investigated, where the intra-pair exchange interaction is antiferromagnetic and is much stronger than the inter-pair interaction.
Abstract: A new type of spin ordering in a spin-pair system is theoretically investigated. In the system, the intra-pair exchange interaction is antiferromagnetic and is much stronger than the inter-pair exchange interaction. In an external magnetic field, the excited triplet of the pair splits, and the lowest component of the triplet crosses the ground singlet at a certain magnitude of the field. In the vicinity of the point of level crossing, even the weak inter-pair exchange interaction causes a considerable amount of mixing between the singlet and the lowest component of the triplet. Due to the mixing, an ordering of the spin component perpendicular to the external field occurs. This ordering explains an anomaly which has been found by Haseda et al. in their experiment of cooling by adiabatic magnetization of Cu(NO 3 ) 2 2.5H 2 O.

TL;DR: In this paper, a simple model is presented to explain the irregular bouncing phenomena of particles in pneumatic conveying by introducing a random factor to the model, and a PNE transport process was simulated by Monte Carlo method.
Abstract: On the basis of wall roughness, a simple model is presented to explain the irregular bouncing phenomena of particles in pneumatic conveying. By introducing a random factor to the model, a pneumatic transport process was simulated by Monte Carlo method. The model could fairly well account for the concentration and velocity distribution and the rate of revolution of particles. Even very small degree of roughness was found to have a great influence upon the behaviour of particles.

TL;DR: In this paper, a model based on the ellipsoid approximation of the particle shape was constructed and was applied to account for the irregular bouncing phenomena of nonspherical particles.
Abstract: The mechanism of suspension of particles in horizontal pneumatic conveying was studied by experimental and numerical analyses. It was found from experiment that the particles flowing in the duct were rotating at high speeds such as 1, 000 r. p. s. or more. A model based on the ellipsoid approximation of the particle shape was constructed and was applied to account for the irregular bouncing phenomena of nonspherical particles. Moreover, the real pneumatic transport process was simulated satisfactorily by introducing a random factor into the ellipsoid model.

TL;DR: In this article, the Green's function was extended to the case that the interaction is not instantaneous, and the energy corrections to the exciton due to recoil effects, retardation effects, renormalization constants and vertex parts arising from the interactions of an electron and a hole forming an exciton with longitudinal optical phonons were explicitly calculated by using the extended method.
Abstract: The Green's function method developed by Mahan for excitons is extended to the case that the interaction is not instantaneous. Energy corrections to the exciton due to recoil effects, retardation effects, renormalization constants and vertex parts arising from the interactions of an electron and a hole forming an exciton with longitudinal optical (LO) phonons, which were treated by Haken in another simplified manner, are explicitly calculated by using the extended method to first order in electron-phonon coupling constant α and in (\(E/\hbar\omega_{l}\)), where E is the binding energy of the exciton and ω l is the LO phonon frequency. It is shown that in these corrections, the recoil effect and the retardation effect cancel out each other and the renormalization effect and the vertex effect cancel out each other, and a resultant effective interaction between the electron and hole is reduced to Haken's result for large electron-hole separations.

Abstract: The structure of iron in the liquid state has been studied by neutron diffraction at 1620 °C. After calculation of the interference function (Fourier analysis), the atomic radial distribution function was evaluated from which interatomic distance and coordination number were obtained. The value of the magnetic moment of iron in the liquid state which was derived from the correction for the paramagnetic neutron scattering was 1.2 μB.

TL;DR: In this paper, the Curie temperature of CuCr 2 X 4 was obtained from the result of measurement of the variation with pressure in the self inductance of search coil wound on the specimen vessel.
Abstract: The pressure coefficient of the Curie temperature of CuCr 2 X 4 was obtained from the result of measurement of the variation with pressure in the self inductance of search coil wounded on the specimen vessel. The coefficients, d T c /d p , were founded to be -11.3×10 -4 °Kkg -1 cm 2 for CuCr 2 S 4 , -4.1×10 -4 °Kkg -1 cm 2 for CuCr 2 Se 4 and nearly zero for CuCr 2 Te 4 , respectively. If the main exchange interaction in a pair of Cr ions is thought to be the ferromagnetic superexchange of the Cr-X-Cr type and the antiferromagnetic direct interaction of the Cr-Cr type, it can be seen from the results of the present experiment that the direct Cr-Cr interaction is more sensitive to lattice compression than the superexchange Cr-X-Cr. The magnetic properties of those compounds are also reported.

Abstract: The new synthetic routes leading to the 2-methoxyestrogens from the readily available compounds have been investigated. Utilization of both Friedel-Crafts and Baeyer-Villiger reactions with estrone and estradiol 3-methyl ethers gave the desired 2-methoxyestrogens in overall yield of ca. 50%. Fries rearrangement with estrone acetate and Friedel-Crafts reaction with 2-methoxy-3-deoxyestrogens were also undertaken. The chemical shifts of the aromatic protons of the 2, 3-substituted estratrienes are collected in Table I and II.

TL;DR: In this paper, the internal magnetic fields of Ni and Sn nuclei were measured with the spin-echo N. M. R. method, as well as their thermo-magnetic curves.
Abstract: The internal magnetic fields of Mn and Sn nuclei in Ni 2 MnSn, Co 2 MnSn and Ni 2 MnSb were measured with the spin-echo N. M. R. method, as well as their thermo-magnetic curves. The Curie temperatures measured of Ni 2 MnSn and Ni 2 MnSb were different from Castellitz's data, and a sluggish change of the magnetization in Ni 2 MnSb was observed, near the Curie temperature. The NMR signals of Mn nuclei were observed in Co 2 MnSn, Ni 2 MnSn and Ni 2 MnSb. The internal magnetic fields were 352.3, 312.7 and 285 kOe, respectively. An unexpected resonance signal appeared in Ni 2 MnSb and was interpreted as originating from Mn atoms occupying non-regular sites. The resonance signals of Sn nuclei were also observed in Co 2 MnSn and Ni 2 MnSn. The internal magnetic fields were 153.8 and 150.4 kOe, respectively. The difference in the internal magnetic fields of the above compounds from those of Cu 2 MnSn can be tentatively attributed to the difference in the conduction electron polarization by RKKY interaction.

Abstract: We have studied equations of type Xn-aX + b =0, and have obtained some results on unramified extensions of quadratic number fields [3]. In this paper we have further results which include almost all of [3]. We do not refer to [3] in the following, though the techniques of proofs are almost equal to those of [3], Theorems proved here are the following." Notice that "unramified" means in this paper that every finite prime is unramified. THEOREM 1. Let k be an algebraic number field o f finite degree. Let a and b be integers of k. K denotes the minimal splitting field of a polynomial

TL;DR: In this paper, a new type of metamagnetism has been found in this paramagnetic state at x = 0.86 and the metamagnetic properties have been measured under a strong magnetic field up to 75 kOe and in the temperature range 4.2°K to 800°K.
Abstract: The magnetic phase diagram of Co(S x Se 1- x ) 2 , the solid solution between ferromagnetic CoS 2 and antiferromagnetic CoSe 2 , has been given by neutron diffraction experiment, where the paramagnetism at absolute zero was found in the range 0.5< x <0.88. This paramagnetic state is named “exchange-compensated paramagnetism”. A new type metamagnetism has been found in this paramagnetic state at x =0.86. This behavior had been already predicted theoretically by M. Hattori, K. Adachi and H. Nakano in J. Phys. Soc. Japan 26 (1969) 642. The metamagnetic properties have been measured under a strong magnetic field up to 75 kOe and in the temperature range 4.2°K to 800°K. The metamagnetism shows the hysteresis without remanence below 34°K and the saturation moment agrees with that of CoS 2 . The obtained results have been analyzed from the thermostatistical standpoint with an analogy of the condensation of imperfect gas and the critical indices have been determined. The origin of the exchange-compensated paramag...
