Abstract: The isoflavone constituents in soybean seeds were investigated, and 9 kinds of isoflavone glycosides were isolated from the hypocotyls of soybean seeds. Three kinds were proved to be malonylated soybean isoflavones named 6″-O-malonyldaidzin, 6″-O-malonylglycitin and 6″-O-malonylgenistin by UV, MS, IR and NMR. The malonylated isoflavone glycosides as major isoflavone constituents in soybean seed were thermally unstable, and were converted into their corresponding isoflavone glycosides. All of the isoflavone components produced intensely undesirable taste effects such as bitter, astringent and dry mouth feeling.

Abstract: The primary role of cytokines in haemato-lymphopoiesis is thought to be the regulation of cell growth and survival. But the instructive action of cytokines in haematopoiesis has not been well addressed. Here we show that a clonogenic common lymphoid progenitor, a bone marrow-resident cell that gives rise exclusively to lymphocytes (T, B and natural killer cells), can be redirected to the myeloid lineage by stimulation through exogenously expressed interleukin (IL)-2 and GM-CSF (granulocyte/macrophage colony-stimulating factor) receptors. Analysis of mutants of the beta-chain of the IL-2 receptor revealed that the granulocyte- and monocyte-differentiation signals are triggered by different cytoplasmic domains, showing that the signalling pathway(s) responsible for these unique developmental outcomes are separable. Finally, we show that the endogenous myelomonocytic cytokine receptors for GM-CSF and macrophage colony-stimulating factor (M-CSF) are expressed at low to moderate levels on the more primitive haematopoietic stem cells, are absent on common lymphoid progenitors, and are upregulated after myeloid lineage induction by IL-2. We conclude that cytokine signalling can regulate cell-fate decisions and propose that a critical step in lymphoid commitment is downregulation of cytokine receptors that drive myeloid cell development.

Abstract: The spin Seebeck effect refers to the generation of a spin voltage caused by a temperature gradient in a ferromagnet, which enables the thermal injection of spin currents from the ferromagnet into an attached nonmagnetic metal over a macroscopic scale of several millimeters. The inverse spin Hall effect converts the injected spin current into a transverse charge voltage, thereby producing electromotive force as in the conventional charge Seebeck device. Recent theoretical and experimental efforts have shown that the magnon and phonon degrees of freedom play crucial roles in the spin Seebeck effect. In this article, we present the theoretical basis for understanding the spin Seebeck effect and briefly discuss other thermal spin effects.

Abstract: Polycarbosilane as the precursor of continuous SiC fibre was synthesized by thermal decomposition of polydimethylsilane. The structure of the polycarbosilane is concluded to be similar to that of polysilapropylene by the measurements of i.r. spectra, NMR spectra and chemical analyses. Its formation mechanisms are initially the formation of carbosilane by thermal decomposition of polydimethylsilane and then the increase in molecular weight by dehydrogenation-condensation of the carbosilane. Molecular structure and molecular weight distribution of the polycarbosilane depend on the reaction temperature.
