Abstract: Systematic low-energy neutron-scattering studies have been performed on float-zone-grown single crystals of ${\mathrm{La}}_{2\ensuremath{-}x}{\mathrm{Sr}}_{x}{\mathrm{CuO}}_{4}$ with $x$ extending from zero doping, $x=0$, to the overdoped, weakly superconducting regime, $x=025$ For $x$ beyond a critical doping value of ${x}_{c}\ensuremath{\approx}005$ the low-energy spin-fluctuation peak position shifts from ($\frac{1}{2}$, $\frac{1}{2}$) to ($\frac{1}{2}$\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}\ensuremath{\delta}, $\frac{1}{2}$), and ($\frac{1}{2}$, $\frac{1}{2}$\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}\ensuremath{\delta}); ${x}_{c}$ also represents the onset concentration for superconductivity For $006l~xl~012$ the incommensurability $\ensuremath{\delta}$ follows approximately the quantitative relation $\ensuremath{\delta}=x$ However, beyond $x\ensuremath{\approx}012$ the incommensurability tends to saturate around $\ensuremath{\delta}\ensuremath{\approx}1/8$ The superconducting-transition temperature ${T}_{c}(x)$ for stoichiometric samples at a given doping scales linearly with $\ensuremath{\delta}$ up to the optimal doping value of $x$ The peak momentum width of the spin fluctuations at low energies is small throughout the superconducting concentration region except in the strongly overdoped region An anomalously small width is observed for $x=\frac{1}{8}$ The incommensurate spatial modulation is found to be robust with respect to pair-breaking effects that lower ${T}_{c},$ such as deoxygenation of the sample or replacement of Cu by Zn

Abstract: We propose a longitudinal spin-Seebeck effect (SSE), in which a magnon-induced spin current is injected parallel to a temperature gradient from a ferromagnet into an attached paramagnetic metal. The longitudinal SSE is measured in a simple and versatile system composed of a ferrimagnetic insulator Y3Fe5O12 slab and a Pt film by means of the inverse spin-Hall effect. The experimental results highlight the intriguing character of the longitudinal SSE due to its own geometric configuration.

Abstract: The $\ensuremath{\gamma}n\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{K}^{+}{K}^{\ensuremath{-}}n$ reaction on $^{12}\mathrm{C}$ has been studied by measuring both ${K}^{+}$ and ${K}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ at forward angles. A sharp baryon resonance peak was observed at $1.54\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.01\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{G}\mathrm{e}\mathrm{V}/{c}^{2}$ with a width smaller than $25\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{M}\mathrm{e}\mathrm{V}/{c}^{2}$ and a Gaussian significance of $4.6\ensuremath{\sigma}$. The strangeness quantum number ($S$) of the baryon resonance is $+1$. It can be interpreted as a molecular meson-baryon resonance or alternatively as an exotic five-quark state ($uudd\overline{s}$) that decays into a ${K}^{+}$ and a neutron. The resonance is consistent with the lowest member of an antidecuplet of baryons predicted by the chiral soliton model.

Abstract: We have obtained, for the first time, a quantitative protein expression profile of membrane transporters and receptors in human brain microvessels, that is, the blood-brain barrier (BBB). Brain microvessels were isolated from brain cortexes of seven males (16-77 years old) and protein expression of 114 membrane proteins was determined by means of a liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometric quantification method using recently established in-silico peptide selection criteria. Among drug transporters, breast cancer resistance protein showed the most abundant protein expression (8.14 fmol/μg protein), and its expression level was 1.85-fold greater in humans than in mice. By contrast, the expression level of P-glycoprotein in humans (6.06 fmol/μg protein) was 2.33-fold smaller than that of mdr1a in mice. The organic anion transporters reported in rodent BBB, that is, multidrug resistance-associated protein, organic anion transporter and organic anion-transporting polypeptide family members, were under limit of quantification in humans, except multidrug resistance-associated protein 4 (0.195 fmol/μg protein). Among detected transporters and receptors for endogenous substances, the glucose transporter 1 level was similar to that of mouse, while the L-type amino acid transporter 1 level was fivefold smaller than that of mouse. These findings should be useful for understanding human BBB function and its differences from that in mouse.
