Abstract: Newly developed oxo-tethered Ru amido complexes (R,R)-1 and their HCl adducts (R,R)-2 exhibited excellent catalytic performance for both asymmetric transfer hydrogenation and the hydrogenation of ketonic substrates under neutral conditions without any cocatalysts to give chiral secondary alcohols with high levels of enantioselectivity.

Abstract: In order to elucidate the structural details of doped polyacetylene (a highly conducting organic polymer), the optical absorption, Raman, and infrared spectra of not only trans‐(CH)x doped with iodine, AsF5, and SO3 but also β‐carotene doped with iodine and SO3 were studied. The infrared spectra of two kinds of isotopically substituted polyacetylenes (CD)x and (13CH)x doped with iodine were also observed. Analysis of the experimental results shows that upon doping each of the four vibrational branches (ν1–ν4) in the 1600–900 cm−1 region of a polyene chain splits into two groups, namely, the higher frequency group and the lower frequency one. The former group consists of the ’’gerade’’ vibrations of polyene parts which are not directly attacked by dopants but are perturbed along the chain, whereas the latter is made up of the ’’ungerade’’ vibrations of the positively charged polyene part with the doped site at its center. Abstract: In this paper, we revisit the classical perspective-n-point (PnP) problem, and propose the first non-iterative O(n) solution that is fast, generally applicable and globally optimal. Our basic idea is to formulate the PnP problem into a functional minimization problem and retrieve all its stationary points by using the Gr"obner basis technique. The novelty lies in a non-unit quaternion representation to parameterize the rotation and a simple but elegant formulation of the PnP problem into an unconstrained optimization problem. Interestingly, the polynomial system arising from its first-order optimality condition assumes two-fold symmetry, a nice property that can be utilized to improve speed and numerical stability of a Grobner basis solver. Experiment results have demonstrated that, in terms of accuracy, our proposed solution is definitely better than the state-of-the-art O(n) methods, and even comparable with the reprojection error minimization method.

Abstract: Interparticle potential energy calculations were performed to investigate the mechanisms by which a new class of concrete admixtures, generally referenced as poly(carboxylic acid)-type (PC) superplasticizers, which aid in dispersing cement particles, are formed. These calculations consisted of long-range Van der Waals, electrostatic, and steric interactions. The repulsive potential that resulted from electrostatic interactions was negligible, which would allow cement particles to flocculate in the absence of steric contributions. A model was developed to describe the adsorption behavior of these superplasticizers, which consisted of grafted polyethylene oxide (PEO) chains on a PC backbone on cement surfaces. Using this adsorption model, the influence of the length of the PEO molecular chain and the density per unit area on the steric contribution was quantified. Steric hindrance effects were the dominant stabilizing mechanism in this system. As expected, enhanced stability was observed with increasing adlayer thickness (and/or density). The results of this study may be useful in designing the molecular structure of this new and important class of dispersion aids for cement-based systems.

Abstract: We report that the organic salt (EDO-TTF)2PF6 with ¾-filled-band (¼-filled in terms of holes), which forms an organic metal with strong electron and lattice correlation, shows a highly sensitive response to photoexcitation. An ultrafast, photoinduced phase transition from the insulator phase to the metal phase can be induced with very weak excitation intensity at near room temperature. This response makes the material attractive for applications in switching devices with room-temperature operation. The observed photo-induced spectroscopic change shows that this photoinduced phase transition process is caused by the cooperative melting of charge ordering assisted by coherent phonon generation.
