TL;DR: Northern analysis of poly(A+) RNA reveals that a single-sized mRNA codes for HMG2 protein and Southern analysis suggests that the H MG2 coding gene is homogeneous within the pig thymus genome.
Abstract: The isolation and sequencing of a cDNA clone for the entire sequence of pig thymus non-histone protein HMG2 are described. cDNA the size of 1153 nucleotides contains an open reading frame of 627 nucleotides. The 5'-untranslated region of 146 nucleotides is extremely rich in GC residues whereas the 3'-untranslated region of 380 nucleotides is rich in AT residues. The open reading frame encodes 209 amino acids, which contain a unique continuous run of 23 acidic amino acids at the C-terminal. The deduced amino acid sequence is 79% homologous to that of HMG1 protein from the same source which we reported [Tsuda, K., Kikuchi, M., Mori, K., Waga, S., & Yoshida, M. (1988) Biochemistry 27, 6159-6163]. In addition, the hydropathy index profiles of both proteins are very similar, supporting that they have similar structural features. Northern analysis of poly(A+) RNA reveals that a single-sized mRNA codes for HMG2 protein. Southern analysis suggests that the HMG2 coding gene is homogeneous within the pig thymus genome.

TL;DR: The Npr protease contained putative zinc ligand-binding regions and two repeated motifs, Asp-Ser-Gly, similar to the active site residues of the aspartic acid and retroviral proteases, which led to the conclusion that it was processed from the 60-kDa pre-proenzyme form encoded by npr.

TL;DR: The digestion of monosaccharide derivatives by pepsin and chymotrypsin indicated that the resistance of insulin to enzymatic degradation was increased by its modification with monosACcharide, one possibility for the hypoglycemic effect of SAPG-INS.
Abstract: The effect of the modification of insulin (INS) with p-succinylamidophenyl (SA)-α-D-glucopyranoside (SAPG), SA-α-D-mannopyranoside and SA-α-L-arabinopyranoside on the enzymatic degradation and the hypoglycemic effect in rats was studied. When SAPG-INS was administered intraintestinally in the absence of bile and pancreatic juice, blood glucose level decreased to 56% of initial value. Other monosaccharide derivatives were less effective than SAPG-INS. The digestion of monosaccharide derivatives by pepsin and chymotrypsin indicated that the resistance of insulin to enzymatic degradation was increased by its modification with monosaccharide. One possibility for the hydroglycemic effect of SAPG-INS could be the increased resistance of insulin to enzymatic degradation as a result of its modification with monosaccharide.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors determined the oxygen deficit δ of (La1-xSrx)2CuO4-δ as a function of oxygen partial pressure (PO2 ) at various temperatures.
Abstract: The oxygen deficit δ of (La1-xSrx)2CuO4-δ was determined as a function of oxygen partial pressure(PO2 ) at various temperatures. When the δ-log PO2 curve at a specified temperature was chosen as the reference and the curves for other temperatures were shifted along the abscissa, all the data points were found to form a single smooth curve (master curve). A theoretical equation providing δ as functions of PO2 and strontium content was derived by combining defect equilibrium, mass action law and site conservation condition. The calculated curve was found to be in good agreement with the master curve. The relationship between copper valence and strontium content at constant oxygen pressure and temperature was determined experimentally and compared with calculated values. Good agreement was found between them.

TL;DR: In this paper, the YBCO superconducting ceramics with various substrates of various shapes were prepared by using the electrophoretic deposition method, where the substrates were a Ag wire and an Al2O3 plate.
Abstract: The YBCO superconducting ceramics with various substrates of various shapes were prepared by using the electrophoretic deposition method. The substrates were a Ag wire and an Al2O3 ceramics plate. In the case of Al2O3 ceramics, Ag was first coated on the ceramics by the electroless plating method. The superconducting properties were proved by the X-ray diffraction method, the diamagnetic measurement, and the resistivity measurement.

TL;DR: In this paper, a 0.2 µm-gate buried p-layer metal field effect transistor (MESFET) using a new gate fabrication technique is reported, which can be easily reduced down to less than 0. 2 µm.
Abstract: A 0.2 µm-gate buried p-layer metal semiconductor field-effect transistor (MESFET) using a new gate fabrication technique is reported. With this technique, the gate length can be easily reduced down to less than 0.2 µm. The source resistance of enhancement mode field-effect transistor (FET) can also be reduced, resulting in excellent DC and RF performance. The maximum transconductance of 648 mS/mm and K-value of 506 mS/V mm were obtained. The maximum cutoff frequency was as high as 96.1 GHz. The propagation delay time of 8.1 ps/gate was observed with a power dissipation of 1.7 mW/gate at a supply voltage of 1 V.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors studied the hydrodynamic radius of the micelles of C 12 -OM-crown with increasing surfactant concentration after aggregation of premicelles around the cmc.
Abstract: Molecular assemblies of ((dodecyloxy)methyl)-18-crown-6 (C 12 -OM-crown) in water have been studied by dynamic light scattering, ultracentrifugation, and viscosity. The micelles of C 12 -OM-crown grow with increasing surfactant concentration after aggregation of premicelles around the cmc. The hydrodynamic radius of the micelles increases from 6 to 20 nm, through the coexistence region of two kinds of micelles

TL;DR: In this article, three nickel(II) complexes with N,N′-ethylenebis(o-mercaptobenzamide), H4ebtsa, a quadridentate {S2N2} ligand classified as a PAC (polyanionic chelating) ligand, were isolated.
Abstract: Three nickel(II) complexes with N,N′-ethylenebis(o-mercaptobenzamide), H4ebtsa, a quadridentate {S2N2} ligand classified as a PAC (polyanionic chelating) ligand, were isolated. Although they were different in their apparent charges, their coordination units were revealed to be equal from their physicochemical behavior. They will be described as Ni(H2ebtsa). EXAFS and XANES study was undertaken for one of the new compounds, and the results were compared with those for similar three NiS2N2 complexes, (N,N′-ethylenebis(o-mercaptobenzylidenaminato))Ni(II), (N,N′-ethylenebis(o-mercaptobenzylaminato))Ni(II) and (NEt4)[Ni(SPh)4]. From these results and a comparison with the results for [Ni(ebtsa)]2, it was concluded that a square planar {S2N2} unit was reliable as the coordination sphere of Ni(H2ebtsa). The character of the amide proton in the coordination unit was also studied.

TL;DR: In this article, a study was made concerning the removal of leachables released from mixed-bed ion exchange resins, where the key concerns were to determine the optimum mixed ratio of SACERs and SBAERs, which gave the minimum value of total organic carbon (TOC) released from the resin mixtures and to investigate the effect of synthetic carbonaceous adsorbents on the adsorption of the leachable.
Abstract: A study was made concerning the removal of leachables released from mixed-bed ion exchange resins. The key concerns were to determine the optimum mixed ratio of strong acid cation exchange resins (SACERs) and strong base anion exchange resins (SBAERs), which give the minimum value of total organic carbon (TOC) released from the resin mixtures and to investigate the effect of synthetic carbonaceous adsorbents on the adsorption of the leachables. The leaching rates of the leachables from the resin mixtures were dependent on the mixed ratios of SACERs and SBAERs. The TOC value for the leachables showed a minimum for a SACER-to-SBAER volume ratio of 9:1, far different from the mixed ratio in ordinary water treatment. The release of leachables from resin mixtures was mainly due to SBAER. The carbonaceous adsorbent having a higher hydrophobic surface adsorbed the leachables well from the resin mixtures.

TL;DR: In this paper, a c(2{times}2)-surface nitride was synthesized on Pd(100) surface by a catalytic reaction of NO + H{sub 2} {yields} (N) + H {sub 2 O at several Torr of total pressure at 500-600 K.
Abstract: A c(2{times}2) overlayer of surface nitride was for the first time synthesized on Pd(100) surface by a catalytic reaction of NO + H{sub 2} {yields} (N) + H{sub 2}O at several Torr of total pressure at 500-600 K. Pure c(2{times}2) surface nitride on Pd(100) surface is stable up to about 600K in vacuum but reacts readily with H{sub 2} at 10{sup {minus}6}-10{sup {minus}9} Torr to give NH{sub 3} at 440 K, that is, c(2{times}2)-N is an intermediate compound of the NH{sub 3} formation reaction.
