TL;DR: These MnOx/Ti3C2 composite MXenes have been developed as multifunctional theranostic agents for efficient magnetic resonance (MR) and photoacoustic (PA) dual-modality imaging-guided photothermal therapy (PTT) against cancer.
Abstract: The emerging of two-dimensional (2D) MXenes significantly broadens the family members and versatile applications of 2D materials, but the rational design of MXene-based composites and their specific applications in theranostic biomedicine are still challenging. In this work, we report, for the first time, on the elaborate design of the Ti3C2-based composite MXene (MnOx/Ti3C2) for highly efficient theranostic applications against cancer. These MnOx/Ti3C2 composite MXenes have been constructed by triggering a simple redox reaction to in situ grow small MnOx nanosheets on the surface of Ti3C2. These MnOx/Ti3C2 composite MXenes have been developed as multifunctional theranostic agents for efficient magnetic resonance (MR) and photoacoustic (PA) dual-modality imaging-guided photothermal therapy (PTT) against cancer. Especially, the decoration of the MnOx component onto MnOx/Ti3C2 realizes the unique tumor microenvironment-responsive T1-weighted MR imaging of tumors, and the high photothermal-conversion perform...

TL;DR: In this article, a binder-free stainless steel welded mesh@flower-like Mn3O4 composite with high zinc storage capability for rechargeable aqueous zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs) is proposed.
Abstract: Rechargeable aqueous zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs) are highly desirable for large-scale energy storage to meet the increasing demand for safe and sustainable energy storage devices. Herein, we report a binder-free stainless steel welded mesh@flower-like Mn3O4 (SSWM@Mn3O4) composite with high zinc storage capability for aqueous ZIBs. Chemical conversion reaction mechanism is proposed for this material. The hierarchical nanoflower structure composed of ultrathin nanosheets facilitates electrolytic infiltration and diffusion of Zn2+. Benefiting from the binder-free conductive substrate, SSWM@Mn3O4 exhibits lower electrode reaction resistance and smaller slope of Warburg diffusion element, which contributes to the excellent electrochemical performances, including high specific capacity of 296 mA h g−1 at 100 mA g−1 and long-term cyclic stability up to 500 cycles at 500 mA g−1, thus demonstrating a promising cathode for aqueous ZIBs.

TL;DR: Using primary rat and human neuronal cultures, it is confirmed that interleukin‐1β and tumor necrosis factor‐α, two pro‐inflammatory cytokines that are typically elevated in neurodegenerative disease states, induced neuronal death and apoptosis in vitro.
Abstract: Glutaminase 1 is the main enzyme responsible for glutamate production in mammalian cells The roles of macrophage and microglia glutaminases in brain injury, infection, and inflammation are well documented However, little is known about the regulation of neuronal glutaminase, despite neurons being a predominant cell type of glutaminase expression Using primary rat and human neuronal cultures, we confirmed that interleukin-1β (IL-1β) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), two pro-inflammatory cytokines that are typically elevated in neurodegenerative disease states, induced neuronal death and apoptosis in vitro Furthermore, both intracellular and extracellular glutamate levels were significantly elevated following IL-1β and/or TNF-α treatment Pre-treatment with N-Methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist MK-801 blocked cytokine-induced glutamate production and alleviated the neurotoxicity, indicating that IL-1β and/or TNF-α induce neurotoxicity through glutamate To determine the potential source of excess glutamate production in the culture during inflammation, we investigated the neuronal glutaminase and found that treatment with IL-1β or TNF-α significantly upregulated the kidney-type glutaminase (KGA), a glutaminase 1 isoform, in primary human neurons The up-regulation of neuronal glutaminase was also demonstrated in situ in a murine model of HIV-1 encephalitis In addition, IL-1β or TNF-α treatment increased the levels of KGA in cytosol and TNF-α specifically increased KGA levels in the extracellular fluid, away from its main residence in mitochondria Together, these findings support neuronal glutaminase as a potential component of neurotoxicity during inflammation and that modulation of glutaminase may provide therapeutic avenues for neurodegenerative diseases

TL;DR: The results indicate that the proposed method is effective and the software package has a friendly interface, plenty of functions, good expansibility and is easy to operate, which can be easily applied in practical engineering.
Abstract: SUMMARY Careful selection and placement of sensors are the critical issue in the construction and implementation of an effective structural health monitoring system. A hybrid method termed the optimal sensor placement strategy (OSPS) based on multiple optimization methods is proposed in this paper. The initial sensor placement is firstly obtained by the QR factorization. Then, using the minimization of the off-diagonal elements in the modal assurance criterion matrix as a measure of the utility of a sensor configuration, the quantity of the sensors is determined by the forward and backward sequential sensor placement algorithm together. Finally, the locations of the sensor are determined by the dual-structure coding-based generalized genetic algorithm (GGA). Taking the scientific calculation software matlab (MathWorks, Natick, MA, USA) as a platform, an OSPS toolbox, which is working as a black box, is developed based on the command-line compiling and graphical user interface-aided graphical interface design. The characteristic and operation method of the toolbox are introduced in detail, and the scheme selection of the OSP is carried out on the world's tallest TV tower (Guangzhou New TV Tower) based on the developed toolbox. The results indicate that the proposed method is effective and the software package has a friendly interface, plenty of functions, good expansibility and is easy to operate, which can be easily applied in practical engineering.
