Abstract: When a satellite is exposed to radiation from a nuclear burst, the electrical energy which becomes available can couple to satellite electric systems. Of the various sources of energy, the power system solar array generates by far the largest amount of energy. Of necessity, this energy is directly available to the electrical systems interior to the satellite. It is imperative that satellites be hardened against this threat.
