TL;DR: In this article, a hydraulic control system is provided for an automatic automotive vehicle transmission of the type including a gear changing unit, such as a planetary gear unit, having brakes and clutches controlled by hydraulically operated servo units.
Abstract: A hydraulic control system is provided for an automatic automotive vehicle transmission of the type including a gear changing unit, such as a planetary gear unit, having brakes and clutches controlled by hydraulically operated servo units, and including hydraulic torque transmitting means, such as a torque converter, coupling the gear changing unit to the vehicle engine. The hydraulic control system includes a cutoff valve hydraulically associated with a pressure regulator valve and other related control valves. The cutoff valve operates as a line pressure regulator when the pressure regulator valve is rendered ineffective in set positions of a manual speed selector valve. In particular, the cutoff valve becomes effective, with the pressure regulator valve becoming ineffective, when the speed selector valve is moved into the "reverse" position. The cutoff valve provides a higher control pressure for the servo units, during gear shifting in the reverse range, than the control pressure available for the servo units during gear shifting in the ordinary forward driving range.

TL;DR: In this article, an electric fuel injection system for internal combustion engines is described, where a means to generate electric signals corresponding to the speed of motion of the throttle of the engine or particularly when the speed exceeding a predetermined value is considered.
Abstract: In internal combustion engines, where the fuel injection valves are electromagnetically operated, at the time of engine acceleration the amount of fuel injected is increased by converting sudden changes in such parameters as the negative pressure in the engine intake manifold into corresponding changes of the mechanical type, such as by the displacement of a diaphragm, according to which mechanical changes an electric fuel injection control is operated. Thus, a delay time is involved, resulting in an insufficient response characteristic. In the specification, there is disclosed an electric fuel injection system for internal combustion engines, comprising; a means to generate electric signals corresponding to the speed of motion of the throttle of the engine or particularly when the speed of the throttle motion exceeds a predetermined value; and a means to increase the amount of fuel delivered for acceleration by so controlling fuel injection valves upon reception of the signal from the first means.

Abstract: In a method for protecting passengers in a moving vehicle, radio signals having a predetermined propagation speed and frequency are transmitted from the moving vehicle to an approaching object, such as a second vehicle. Radio signals reflected from the approaching object, and having a different frequency, are received in the moving vehicle. The difference frequency corresponding to the relative speeds between the two vehicles or between the moving vehicle and an object is obtained by utilizing the change in frequency of both signals caused by the Doppler effect, and the level of the reflected signal, corresponding to the distance between the moving vehicle and the approaching object, is concurrently determined. The time remaining before collision of the moving vehicle with the object or another moving vehicle, if the moving vehicle and/or the other vehicle keep advancing, is determined by multiplying the difference frequency by the level of the reflected signal, to produce a signal inflating air bags within such remaining time. The apparatus comprises means for transmitting and receiving radio signals, means for obtaining the difference frequency between the transmitted and reflected signals, a converter operable to convert the difference frequency to an electrical quantity, such as a voltage, and a converter operable to convert the level of the reflected signal to an electrical quantity, such as a second voltage. The apparatus further includes a multiplier to multiply the two electrical quantities to produce actuating signals when the multiplied value exceeds a predetermined value of the remaining time, and includes means for inflating the air bags, responsive to the actuating signals, within the remaining time.

Abstract: Spaced tooth-like projections are formed on the circumferential periphery of a ring-like body member by cold plastic forming operations carried out on an annular section made of a forgeable material which projects transversely from the body member. The annular section has a substantially rectangular cross-section with a pair of spaced transversely extending face surfaces. Initially, while the ring-like member is supported against movement, alternate flat bottomed indentations and chamfered surfaces are formed in a pressing step on one of the transversely extending face surfaces. Next, grooves are extruded from the annular section between the chamfered sections so that the chamfered sections form an end, and the side surfaces of the grooves form sides of the tooth-like projections. The extruded material is cut off and the sides of the grooves are tapered by a working operation performed from the other one of the transversely extending face surfaces for completing the formation of the tooth-like projections.

Abstract: The assembly modulates the pressure of a working fluid, such as the brake fluid of an automotive vehicle, by the pressure of a control fluid, and includes an operating mechanism having a deflectable diaphragm, a working fluid pressure modulating mechanism operable by the diaphragm and including a pressure modulating piston controlling flow of working fluid through a working fluid line, and means biasing the diaphragm to a position in which the pressure modulating mechanism provides for substantially unrestricted flow to the working fluid line. A control fluid line is connected to the operating mechanism to apply, to the diaphragm, a control fluid pressure in opposition to the biasing means to operate the pressure modulating mechanism to restrict flow to the working fluid line. A throttle valve mechanism is included in the control fluid line to control the rate of control fluid relative to the operating mechanism, and the throttle valve mechanism is subjected to the pressure of the working fluid to vary the rate of flow of the control fluid as a function of the pressure of the working fluid. Application of the control fluid pressure is controlled by a valve operated by an anti-skid mechanism. The rate of flow of the control fluid may be varied as a direct function of the working fluid pressure, as an inverse function of the working fluid pressure, or as a combination of the direct and inverse functions of the working fluid pressure.

TL;DR: In this article, a relay coil in the emitter-collector path of a transistor is activated when the brake pedal is moved or when the hydraulic pressure reaches a predetermined level.
Abstract: A first switch, mounted in a brake pedal pad, turns on in response to slight pressure and remains on during continuance of the pressure. A second switch turns on when the brake pedal is moved or when the brake hydraulic pressure reaches a predetermined level. Closing of the first switch starts charging of a capacitor through a resistor. Closing of the second switch completes a circuit that turns on a brake lamp. The second switch also energizes a relay coil in the emitter-collector path of a transistor. If the decaying charging current through the resistor is still sufficiently high by the time the second switch is closed, the before-mentioned resistor biases on the transistor and operates the relay. The latter brightens the illumination of the lamp or flashes the lamp on and off. If, by the time the second switch is closed, the capacitor is already charged, no further charging current flows through the resistor. The transistor remains non-conductive and there is no change in the brake lamp. Thus, abrupt application of the brakes produces bright illumination or flashing illumination of the brake lamp. Normal slower application of the brake pedal produces a normal illumination of the lamp.
