Abstract: Synthesis of a highly ordered, two-dimensional hexagonal (P6mm) mesoporous benzene−silica composite having molecular-scale periodicity in the pore wall from the self-assembly of nonlinear symmetric 1,3-bis(triethoxysilyl)benzene and octadecyltrimethylammonium surfactant is described. The synthesis of hybrid organosilicas with mesoscopically ordered pores and molecularly ordered pore walls is not confined only to the symmetrically linear bridged organosilane precursors such as 1,4-bis(triethoxysilyl)benzene but a similar arrangement can also be formed by using nonlinear symmetric bridged organosilane precursors.

Abstract: A parking assisting device includes an ambient area detecting unit that detects an obstacle or a parking frame in an ambient area surrounding a vehicle, and a guiding unit guides the vehicle to a parking initial position from which parking of the vehicle to a parking space, adjacent to the detected obstacle, or the detected parking frame is permissible. In the parking assisting device, a guidance mode in which the guiding unit guides the vehicle to the parking initial position is set up based on a distance between the vehicle and the detected obstacle or the detected parking frame in a vehicle width direction of the vehicle.

Abstract: A composite material is provided by contacting a clay mineral having laminated aluminum silicate layers with an organic monomer to allow the organic monomer to be adsorbed on or intercalated between the aluminum silicate layers, and contacting the clay mineral with a silane compound having 2 to 4 chlorine atoms to promote polymerization of the organic monomer, thereby forming a composite material composed of a clay mineral having organic high polymer adsorbed thereon or intercalated therebetween. The composite material thus obtained has a strong chemical bond between inorganic clay mineral and organic high polymer.

Abstract: A sealing valve is installed between a fuel tank and a canister. A purge VSV is installed between the canister and an intake path. A pump module unit is installed to introduce a negative pressure into the canister. The negative pressure is introduced into the canister while the purge VSV and sealing valve are closed. An open failure diagnostic check is conducted on the sealing valve in accordance with the prevalent canister side pressure. A close failure diagnostic check is conducted on the sealing valve by making use of a differential pressure that is generated across the sealing valve as a result of the open failure diagnostic check.
