25 Mar 2012TL;DR: This paper uses case studies to identify the design requirements and puts forth a strawman proposal for the named-data approach to address the challenge of direct V2V communications in vehicles.
Abstract: Vehicular networking is becoming reality. Today vehicles use TCP/IP to communicate with centralized servers through cellular networks. However many vehicular applications, such as information sharing for safety and real time traffic purposes, desire direct V2V communications which is difficult to achieve using the existing solutions. This paper explores the named-data approach to address this challenge. We use case studies to identify the design requirements and put forth a strawman proposal for the data name design to understand its advantages and limitations.

TL;DR: In this paper, the results obtained especially at the Mn K-edge fully support the participation of oxygen in the reversible charge-discharge reaction of this Li and Mn-rich layered material as a redox center and not only with oxygen loss.
Abstract: Operando X-ray absorption spectroscopy investigations have been carried out to follow changes in the atomic and electronic local structures of all three transition metals for the Li1.20Mn0.54Co0.13Ni0.13O2 layered oxide during the first and second charges and discharges of lithium batteries. The experiments were performed using a Quick-XAS monochromator on the SAMBA beamline at Synchrotron SOLEIL to record the three K-edges by edge-jumping between two energy ranges ([Mn, Co] and [Co, Ni]) every 3 min during the cycling of the battery. The results obtained especially at the Mn K-edge fully support the participation of oxygen in the reversible charge–discharge reaction of this Li- and Mn-rich layered material as a redox center and not only with oxygen loss, as was proposed previously.

TL;DR: A new three-dimensional (3-D) jungle-gym-like open metal-organic framework has been synthesized from a two-dimensional layer compound using a heterogeneous pillar insertion reaction.
Abstract: A new three-dimensional (3-D) jungle-gym-like open metal-organic framework has been synthesized from a two-dimensional (2-D) layer compound using a heterogeneous pillar insertion reaction. Both the starting 2-D layer and the resulting 3-D open compounds have been characterized using X-ray crystallography.

05 Sep 1996TL;DR: In this article, an apparatus for controlling the light distribution of the head lamp has a first calculating mean for estimating a driver's view position, a second calculating means for estimating the deviation angle formed by a running direction of the vehicle and a direction of driver's position, and a control means comprising beam orientation, beam spread and upper bright-dark limit.
Abstract: An apparatus for controlling the light distribution of the head lamp has a first calculating means for estimating a driver's view position, a second calculating means for estimating a deviation angle formed by a running direction of the vehicle and a direction of the driver's view position, control means for controlling the light distribution composed of beam orientation, beam spread and upper bright-dark limit, said control means further comprising control-lamp selecting means which selects a high-beam head lamp or a low-beam head lamp corresponding to the result of the first calculating means. The first calculating means estimates a driver's view position which is determined by the distance of said vehicle reaching after an estimated time along a forward roadway, said estimated time for estimating moreover in respect of the driver's abilities which is determined by the level of the driving skillness. The second calculating means for estimating the deviation angle formed by the running direction of said vehicle and the direction of said driver's view position, and moreover modified within the driver's field of vision corresponding to the configuration of the forward roadway. Accordingly, the present invention provides an improved driver visibility in automobiles for controlling light distribution of the head lamp, selecting a high-beam head lamp or a low-beam head lamp corresponding to the driver's operating features, and especially provides an improved driver visibility turning on a high-beam head lamp.

TL;DR: Polystyrene-clay hybrids (PSCHs) were prepared by melt blending a styrene vinyloxazoline copolymer with organophilic clay as discussed by the authors, and the moduli of the PSCHs were higher than that of PS copolymers.
Abstract: Polystyrene–clay hybrids (PSCHs) were prepared by melt blending a styrene vinyloxazoline copolymer with organophilic clay. In the PSCHs, the silicate layers of the clay were delaminated and dispersed homogeneously to the nanometer level. The moduli of the PSCHs were higher than that of the PS copolymer. For example, the tensile modulus of the PSCH with 5 wt % clay was 1.4 times higher compared to that of the PS copolymer. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 74: 3359–3364, 1999
