TL;DR: Overweight in adolescence predicted a broad range of adverse health effects that were independent of adult weight after 55 years of follow-up and was a more powerful predictor of these risks than overweight in adulthood.
Abstract: Background. Overweight in adults is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. In contrast, the long-term effect of overweight in adolescence on morbidity and mortality is not known. Methods. We studied the relation between overweight and morbidity and mortality in 508 lean or overweight adolescents 13 to 18 years old who participated in the Harvard Growth Study of 1922 to 1935. Overweight adolescents were defined as those with a body-mass index that on two occasions was greater than the 75th percentile in subjects of the same age and sex in a large national survey. Lean adolescents were defined as those with a body-mass index between the 25th and 50th percentiles. Subjects who were still alive were interviewed in 1988 to obtain information about their medical history, weight, functional capacity, and other risk factors. For those who had died, information on the cause of death was obtained from death certificates. Results. Overweight in adolescent subjects was associated with an increase...

TL;DR: Global gene expression analyses show that salinomycin treatment results in the loss of expression of breast CSC genes previously identified by analyses of breast tissues isolated directly from patients, demonstrating the ability to identify agents with specific toxicity for epithelial CSCs.

TL;DR: A user interface is that portion of an interactive computer system that communicates with the user as mentioned in this paper. User interfaces include any aspect of the system that is visible to the user, such as a keyboard, mouse, or display.
Abstract: A user interface is that portion of an interactive computer system that communicates with the user. Design of the user interface includes any aspect of the system that is visible to the user. Once, all computer users were specialists in computing, and interfaces consisted of jumper wires in patch boards, punched cards (q.v.) prepared offline, and batch printouts. Today a wide range of nonspecialists use computers, and keyboards, mice, and graphical displays are the most common interface hardware. The user interface is becoming a larger and larger portion of the software in a computer system--and a more important portion, as broader groups of people use computers. As computers become more powerful, the critical bottleneck in applying computer-based systems to solve problems is more often in the user interface rather than in the computer hardware or software.

TL;DR: Data suggest that the MELD score is able to accurately predict 3-month mortality among patients with chronic liver disease on the liver waiting list and can be applied for allocation of donor livers.
