Abstract: The new alpha-Fe(Te,Se) superconductors share the common iron building block and ferminology with the LaFeAsO and BaFe(2)As(2) families of superconductors. In contrast with the predicted commensurate spin-density-wave order at the nesting wave vector (pi, 0), a completely different magnetic order with a composition tunable propagation vector (deltapi, deltapi) was determined for the parent compound Fe_{1+y}Te in this powder and single-crystal neutron diffraction study. The new antiferromagnetic order survives as a short-range one even in the highest T_{C} sample. An alternative to the prevailing nesting Fermi surface mechanism is required to understand the latest family of ferrous superconductors.

Abstract: Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are typically enriched from bone marrow via isolation of the plastic adherent, fibroblastoid cell fraction. However, plastic adherent cultures elaborated from murine bone marrow are an admixture of fibroblastoid and hematopoietic cell types. Here we report a reliable method based on immunodepletion to fractionate fibroblastoid cells from hematopoietic cells within plastic adherent murine marrow cultures. The immunodepleted cells expressed the antigens Sca-1, CD29, CD44, CD81, CD106, and the stem cell marker nucleostemin (NST) but not CD11b, CD31, CD34, CD45, CD48, CD90, CD117, CD135, or the transcription factor Oct-4. They were also capable of differentiating into adipocytes, chondrocytes, and osteoblasts in vitro as well as osteoblasts/osteocytes in vivo. Therefore, immunodepletion yields a cell population devoid of hematopoietic and endothelial cells that is phenotypically and functionally equivalent to MSCs. The immunodepleted cells exhibited a population doubling time of approximately 5-7 days in culture. Poor growth was due to the dramatic down regulation of many genes involved in cell proliferation and cell cycle progression as a result of immunodepletion. Exposure of immunodepleted cells to fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF2) but not insulin-like growth factor (IGF), murine stem cell factor, or leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) significantly increased their growth rate. Moreover, 82% of the transcripts down regulated by immunodepletion remain unaltered in the presence of FGF2. Exposure to the later also reversibly inhibited the ability of the immunodepleted cells to differentiate into adipocytes, chondrocytes, and osteoblasts in vitro. Therefore, FGF2 appears to function as a mitogen and self-maintenance factor for murine MSCs enriched from bone marrow by negative selection.

Abstract: Several behavioral assays are currently used for high-throughput neurophenotyping and screening of genetic mutations and psychotropic drugs in zebrafish (Danio rerio). In this protocol, we describe a battery of two assays to characterize anxiety-related behavioral and endocrine phenotypes in adult zebrafish. Here, we detail how to use the 'novel tank' test to assess behavioral indices of anxiety (including reduced exploration, increased freezing behavior and erratic movement), which are quantifiable using manual registration and computer-aided video-tracking analyses. In addition, we describe how to analyze whole-body zebrafish cortisol concentrations that correspond to their behavior in the novel tank test. This protocol is an easy, inexpensive and effective alternative to other methods of measuring stress responses in zebrafish, thus enabling the rapid acquisition and analysis of large amounts of data. As will be shown here, fish anxiety-like behavior can be either attenuated or exaggerated depending on stress or drug exposure, with cortisol levels generally expected to parallel anxiety behaviors. This protocol can be completed over the course of 2 d, with a variable testing duration depending on the number of fish used.

Abstract: We study the concentration behavior of positive bound states of the nonlinear Schrodinger equation $$ih\frac{{\partial \psi }}{{\partial t}} = \frac{{ - h^2 }}{{2m}}\Delta \psi + V\left( x \right)\psi - \gamma \left| \psi \right|^{p - 1} \psi .$$ Under certain condition ofV, we show that positive ground state solutions must concentrate at global minimum points ofV ash→0+; moreover, a point at which a sequence of positive bound states concentrates must be a critical point ofV. In cases thatV is radial, we prove that the positive radial solutions with least energy among all nontrivial radial solutions must concentrate at the origin ash→0+.

Abstract: Background— Monitoring implantable cardiac device function and patient condition is important. The Lumos-T Safely Reduces Routine Office Device Follow-Up (TRUST) trial tested the hypothesis that remote home monitoring with automatic daily surveillance (HM) is safe and effective for implantable cardioverter-defibrillator follow-up for 1 year and enables rapid physician evaluation of significant events. Methods and Results— In total, 1339 patients were randomized 2:1 to HM or conventional follow-up. Follow-up checks occurred at 3, 6, 9, 12, and 15 months after implantation. HM was used before office visits at 3 and 15 months in the HM group. At 6, 9, and 12 months, HM only was used but was followed by office visits if necessary. Conventional patients were evaluated with office visits only.
