TL;DR: MW absorption study reveals that the samples of LZC@MWCNT could be used as a potential MW absorbing material for which a maximum reflection loss of ∼-21 dB was achieved at a frequency of 15.27 GHz for only 1 mm layer thickness.
Abstract: Nanoparticles of Li0.3Zn0.3Co0.1Fe2.3O4 (LZC) were prepared by the sol–gel method and dried in a furnace at ∼200 °C. The dried sample was annealed at 500, 600, 700, and 800 °C for 5 h each. Rietveld analysis of X-ray diffraction patterns confirms the cubic Fd3m phase formation with lattice parameters ranged from 8.376 up to 8.390 A and allows the crystallite sizes (dcryst) to be estimated. To enhance microwave (MW) absorption as well as the effectiveness for hyperthermia treatment, nanoparticles are taken in the matrix of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and the morphology of the so-prepared samples (LZC@MWCNT) was studied by scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy analyses. Both static and dynamic magnetic properties were investigated on the samples of LZC nanoparticles and compared to those of the samples of LZC@MWCNT. The samples annealed at 500, 600, and 800 °C are excellent candidates in cancer treatment as ac magnetic heating analysis shows that the hyperthermia tempe...

TL;DR: The authors empirically assesses the reasons underlying such conditions and shows that strong legal institutions, good democratic governance and adequate implementation of financial reforms can have a substantial positive impact on financial development only when they are present collectively.
Abstract: Casual observation shows that that the financial systems in the southern and eastern Mediterranean are unable (or unwilling) to divert the financial resources that are available to them as funding opportunities to private enterprises. Using a sample of both northern and southern Mediterranean countries for the years 1985 to 2009, this study empirically assesses the reasons underlying such conditions. The results show that strong legal institutions, good democratic governance and adequate implementation of financial reforms can have a substantial positive impact on financial development only when they are present collectively. Moreover, inflation appears to undermine banking development, but less so when the capital account is open. Government debt growth appears to weaken credit growth, which confirms that public debt ‘crowds out’ private debt. Lastly, capital inflows appear to primarily have an income effect, increasing income and thereby national savings, and thus increasing the availability of credit.

TL;DR: The numerical results show the effectiveness of the SMA damper to damp the high free vibration and the harmonic vibration better than an optimal TMD.
Abstract: This paper focuses on introducing and investigating the performance of a new passive control device for stay cable in cable-stayed bridges made with shape-memory alloys (SMA). The superelasticity and damping capability of SMA is sought in this study to develop a supplementary energy dissipation device for stay cable. A linear model of a sag cable and a one-dimensional constitutive model for the SMA are used. The problem of the optimal design of the device is studied. In the optimization problem, an energy criterion associated with the concept of optimal performance of the hysteretic connection is used. The maximum dissipation energy depends on the cross-sectional area, the length, and the location of the SMA on the cable. The effectiveness of the SMA damper in controlling the cable displacement is assessed. Furthermore, a study is conducted to determine the sensitivity of the cable response to the properties of the SMA device. The comparison between the SMA damper and a more classical passive control energy dissipation device, i.e., the tuned mass damper (TMD), is carried out. The numerical results show the effectiveness of the SMA damper to damp the high free vibration and the harmonic vibration better than an optimal TMD.

TL;DR: In this article, the pomological characters of the fruit are influenced by the geographical location of the olive trees, and a significant fluctuation of the flush percentage in three Chaibi individuals according to their geographical site; it varies from 4906 to 8219% The three Gerboui individuals showed a significant variability in the fruit weight (from 113 to 317 g).
