29 Nov 1994TL;DR: The Knowledge Query and Manipulation Language (KQML) as mentioned in this paper is a new language and protocol for exchanging information and knowledge, which is used in the ARPA Knowledge Sharing Effort.
Abstract: This paper describes the design of and experimentation with the Knowledge Query and Manipulation Language (KQML), a new language and protocol for exchanging information and knowledge. This work is part of a larger effort, the ARPA Knowledge Sharing Effort which is aimed at developing techniques and methodology for building large-scale knowledge bases which are sharable and reusable. KQML is both a message format and a message-handling protocol to support run-time knowledge sharing among agents. KQML focuses on an extensible set of performatives, which defines the permissible “speech acts” agents may use and comprise a substrate on which to develop higher-level models of interagent interaction such as contract nets and negotiation. In addition, KQML provides a basic architecture for knowledge sharing through a special class of agent called communication facilitors which coordinate the interactions of other agents. The ideas which underlie the evolving design of KQML are currently being explored through experimental prototype systems which are being used to support several testbeds in such areas as concurrent engineering, intelligent design and intelligent planning and scheduling.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors look at the subject of corporate social responsibility and how companies use it in their marketing communication activities, a practice known as cause-related marketing (CRM).
Abstract: This article looks at the subject of corporate social responsibility and how companies use it in their marketing communication activities, a practice known as cause-related marketing (CRM). According to the definition of Angelidis and Ibrahim (1993), corporate social responsibility is ‘corporate social actions whose purpose is to satisfy social needs’. Corporate social responsibility requires investment and it yields measurable outcomes. It is commonly accepted that cause-related marketing is a communications tool for increasing customer loyalty and building reputation. The expected change in a company's image because of CRM campaigns appears to depend a great deal upon how customers perceive the reasons for a company's involvement in cause-related programmes and the amount of help given to the cause through a company's involvement (Webb and Mohr, 1998). Mohr et al. (1998) suggest that consumers with a high level of scepticism will be less likely to respond positively to CRM campaigns as opposed to consume...

09 Dec 1992TL;DR: In this article, an apparatus provides a network combining a local site having a host computer and a specialized storage and retrieval module for storing image information which is connected to a remote site having document processing equipment working with remote specialized storage retrieval modules for storage of image and information data.
Abstract: An apparatus provides a network combining a local site having a host computer and a specialized storage and retrieval module for storing image information which is connected to a remote site having document processing equipment working with remote specialized storage retrieval modules for storage of image and information data. The single local main host computer can operate the network such that documents which are converted to digitized packets can be stored in and retrieved from both the remote storage retrieval modules and also stored int eh local storage retrieval module for use of the remote and the local peripheral devices.

18 Dec 1996TL;DR: In this paper, a shadow file-converter set enables the transformation of the original source file format into a particular other specific type of format, which is then published in any specific format to multiple numbers of and type of receiving appliances.
Abstract: A network providing a server using an object-database enables an author to create and store an original document, as a source file with a first format. Software in the data base will provide multiple sets of shadow file-converter groups connected to the source file of the original document. Each shadow file-converter set enables the transformation of the original source file format into a particular other specific type of format. Any client or user of the network can access and receive a copy of the original source document which is automatically reformatted to match the requirements of the receiver's appliance. Thus, one original source document can be created and then published in any specific format to multiple numbers of and type of receiving appliances.
