TL;DR: The {ital X}-band optically detected magnetic resonance of poly( 3-hexylthiophene) and poly(3-dodecylthyphene) films and solutions are described and discussed and the photoluminescence-enhancing features are believed to result from polaron recombination.
Abstract: The X-band optically detected magnetic resonance of poly(3-hexylthiophene) and poly(3-dodecylthiophene) films and solutions are described and discussed. The photoluminescence-enhancing features include (i) a strong, \ensuremath{\sim}15-G-wide, asymmetric peak at g\ensuremath{\simeq}2.003; (ii) a weak peak at g\ensuremath{\simeq}4.07; and (iii) a weak, \ensuremath{\sim}800-G-wide structure around g\ensuremath{\simeq}2. It is believed that feature (i) results from polaron recombination, and the others from the decay of two distinct intrinsic triplet polaronic excitons. The levels of all are apparently close to the band edges.

TL;DR: In this paper, the main types and the operating conditions of entrained-flow gasifiers and coal properties used in IGCC plants are reviewed, and coal ash properties and operating conditions impacting slag behavior are discussed.
Abstract: In the entrained-flow gasifiers used in integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) plants, the majority of mineral matter transforms to liquid slag on the wall of the gasifier and flows out the bottom. However, a small fraction of the mineral matter is entrained (as fly ash) with the raw syngas out of the gasifier to downstream processing. This molten/sticky fly ash could cause fouling of the syngas cooler. To improve gasification availability through better design and operation of the gasification process, a better understanding of slag behavior and the characteristics of the slagging process is needed. Char/ash properties, gas compositions in the gasifier, the gasifier wall structure, fluid dynamics, and plant operating conditions (mainly temperature and oxygen/carbon ratio) all affect slagging behavior. Because coal has varying ash content and composition, different operating conditions are required to maintain the slag flow and limit problems downstream. In Part I, we review the main types and the operating conditions of entrained-flow gasifiers and coal properties used in IGCC plants; we identify and discuss the key coal ash properties and the operating conditions impacting slag behavior; finally, we summarize the coal quality criteria and the operating conditions in entrained-flow gasifiers. In Part II, we discuss the constitutive modeling related to the rheological studies of slag flow.

TL;DR: In this article, a model for the geometry and bonding of chemisorbed BTA which accounts for its corrosion inhibition on Cu, and for the corrosion inhibition, or lack of inhibition, by molecules similar to BTA was proposed.

TL;DR: The yeast tests supplement the bacterial tests for detecting agents that act via radical formation, antibacterial drugs, and other chemicals interfering with chromosome segregation and recombination processes.
Abstract: The yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae is a unicellular fungus that can be cultured as a stable haploid or a stable diploid . Diploid cultures can be induced to undergo meiosis in a synchronous fashion under well-defined conditions. Consequently, yeasts can be used to study genetic effects both in mitotic and in meiotic cells. Haploid strains have been used to study the induction of point mutations. In addition to point mutation induction, diploid strains have been used for studying mitotic recombination, which is the expression of the cellular repair activities induced by inflicted damage. Chromosomal malsegregation in mitotic and meiotic cells can also be studied in appropriately marked strains. Yeast has a considerable potential for endogenous activation, provided the tests are performed with appropriate cells. Exogenous activation has been achieved with S9 rodent liver in test tubes as well as in the host-mediated assay, where cells are injected into rodents. Yeast cells can be recovered from various organs and tested for induced genetic effects. The most commonly used genetic end point has been mitotic recombination either as mitotic crossing-over or mitotic gene conversion. A number of different strains are used by different authors. This also applies to haploid strains used for monitoring induction of point mutations. Mitotic chromosome malsegregation has been studied mainly with strain D6 and meiotic malsegregation with strain DIS13 . Data were available on tests with 492 chemicals, of which 249 were positive, as reported in 173 articles or reports. The genetic test/carcinogenicity accuracy was 0.74, based on the carcinogen listing established in the Gene-Tox Program. The yeast tests supplement the bacterial tests for detecting agents that act via radical formation, antibacterial drugs, and other chemicals interfering with chromosome segregation and recombination processes.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used integrated assessment models (IAMs) to assess the risk from each system element using high-fidelity models, which are simplified into reduced-order models, so that a large, integrated site performance assessment can be run using the IAM.
