TL;DR: Household contact with tuberculosis, social factors and male sex play the biggest role in determining risk of TB disease among children and adolescents in the study.
Abstract: Background Tuberculosis is a major disease worldwide and most research focus on risk factors for adults, although there is a marked adolescent peak in incidence. The objective of this study was to identify risk factors for tuberculosis in children aged 7 to 19.

TL;DR: This study investigated the alteration of surface roughness of the nanofill composite Filtek Z350 3M/ESPE®, caused by simulated brushing associated with the use of mouthrinses with or without alcohol.
Abstract: This study investigated the alteration of surface roughness of the nanofill composite Filtek Z350 3M/ESPE®, caused by simulated brushing associated with the use of mouthrinses with or without alcohol. Sixty specimens were prepared and distributed into six groups: distilled water, ethylic alcohol, Listerine® Vanilla Mint, Plax® without alcohol, Oral B® without alcohol and a control group. Each group was submitted to two intercalary 5,000 simulated brushing cycles. At the end of each cycle, the specimens were washed in tap water and immersed for two cycles of six hours equivalent to one year of daily use of the solution for 2 minutes. It was possible to verify significant alteration in surface roughness of the composite influenced by ethylic alcohol. It was not significant for distilled water and the mouthrinses.

TL;DR: The experimental results indicate that the proposed method to autonomously adjust the operating point of amplifiers in a cascade using an approach based on machine learning can optimize the performance of the link ensuring predefined input and output power levels, which is important in a network scenario.
Abstract: This paper presents a method to autonomously adjust the operating point of amplifiers in a cascade using an approach based on machine learning. The goal is to smoothly adjust the gain of each amplifier in the cascade in order to reach predefined input and output power levels for the entire link, aiming to minimize both the noise figure and the gain flatness of the transmission system. The proposal uses an iterative method and performs feedforward and backward error adjustments based on local information. The experimental results indicate that our proposal can optimize the performance of the link ensuring predefined input and output power levels, which is important in a network scenario. As an example, our proposal was capable to define the gain of 6 amplifiers returning a link with a noise figure equal to 30.06 dB and a gain flatness equal to 5.26 dB, while maintaing the input and output powers around 3 dBm with an error lower than 0.1 dB.

TL;DR: The motivation behind the vast majority of the SLRs was to gather knowledge about a particular field of study, however, only six participants affirmed that their reviews actually had a direct impact in industrial practice.
Abstract: Context: Systematic literature reviews (SLRs) are a particular type of secondary study used as the main research method in evidence based research and practice. The starting point of a SLR should be a problem from the practice and the results should, somehow, have an impact on improving practice. Objective: To investigate the motivation of software engineering researchers to conduct a SLR and how the results of their reviews are potentially impacting the software engineering practice. Method: We conducted a cross-sectional survey with authors of 120 SLRs published between 2004 and 2010 identified by three tertiary studies previously published. Results: Forty-four authors of SLR participate in the survey. The motivation behind the vast majority of the SLRs was to gather knowledge about a particular field of study. However, only six participants affirmed that their reviews actually had a direct impact in industrial practice. Conclusions: The use of SLR has increased over the years but they were mostly focused on academic problems and had very little impact on industrial practice. Therefore, the full potential benefits of evidence-based software engineering are not being achieved.

TL;DR: The results show that the Mais Medicos Program had an influence on the reduction of hospitalizations for this type of condition — they fell by 35% in the period investigated, with important differences between the states.
