TL;DR: Results may indicate that the patients with American tegumentary leishmaniasis produced a specific cellular response to the soluble antigenic fraction suggesting that besides Th1 and Th2 dichotomy, immunological regulation mechanisms with the participation of memory T cells and regulatory T cells could be present in the clinical evolution of these patients.
Abstract: In this study, we have the objective of evaluating the lymphoproliferative response and determining interferon (IFN)-γ and interleukin (IL)-10 cytokine production in the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) of patients with American tegumentary leishmaniasis prior and post 12 months of chemotherapy treatment with meglumine antimoniate compared with the PBMC of noninfected donors. Lymphoproliferation, such as cytokine production, was evaluated through in vitro stimulus with the soluble antigenic fraction from Leishmania (Viannia) braziliensis promastigotes (1.25 µg/ml) and Concanavalin A (2.5 µg/ml). Patients showed a significant lymphoproliferative response prior and post treatment compared with the control group. Similar result, prior to chemotherapy treatment, was observed in IFN-γ and IL-10 production when patients were compared with the control group. After chemotherapy treatment, PBMC lymphoproliferative response of the patients revealed an increase, whereas patients have shown a decrease in IFN-γ levels and an increase in IL-10, although without statistical difference. These results may indicate that the patients produced a specific cellular response to the soluble antigenic fraction suggesting that besides Th1 and Th2 dichotomy, immunological regulation mechanisms with the participation of memory T cells and regulatory T cells could be present in the clinical evolution of these patients. This understanding will allow the study and identification of new L. (V.) braziliensis molecules potentially candidates to vaccines. J. Clin. Lab. Anal. 23:63–69, 2009. © 2009 Wiley-Liss, Inc.

TL;DR: The results indicate that 1% sodium hypochlorite alone does not remove the smear layer and that there was no statistical difference between EDTA gel and EDTA solution in smear layer removal.
Abstract: The purpose of this in vitro study was to compare the efficacy of 24% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) gel and 17% EDTA solution in cleaning dentine walls after root canal instrumentation. Thirty human canine teeth were divided into three groups of 10 teeth each. In Group 1, 1% sodium hypochlorite was used as the irrigating solution; in Group 2, 1% sodium hypochlorite was used with 17% EDTA solution; and in Group 3, 1% sodium hypochlorite was used with 24% EDTA gel. The presence of a smear layer was analysed after instrumentation using scanning electron microscopy. The Kruskal-Wallis test revealed a statistical difference (P 0.05). The results indicate that 1% sodium hypochlorite alone does not remove the smear layer and that there was no statistical difference between EDTA gel and EDTA solution in smear layer removal.

TL;DR: Preliminary insights suggest the model's format should be a corporative game, applying constructs of gamification, fun theory and game theory, generating a practical approach to facilitate the implementation of a collaborative and adaptive culture.
Abstract: Agility at the business and organizational levels presents a challenge for many enterprises. Business agility demands the ability to sense and respond to changes in competitive environments, whereas organizational agility demands the dexterity to sense broader market opportunities and respond with changes that are organization-wide. These challenges require an information and communication technologies (ICT or IT) environment flexible and customizable simultaneously with the coordination across multiple organization units, also demands effective and responsive governance in order to deliver faster, better, and cheaper value to the business. Driven by these challenges, the goals of the candidate's PhD thesis is to conceive, define, and evaluate a management model for agile governance on global development environments. Preliminary insights suggest the model's format should be a corporative game, applying constructs of gamification, fun theory and game theory, generating a practical approach to facilitate the implementation of a collaborative and adaptive culture, in order to establish relational integration mechanisms as well as a better understanding of how these arrangements can help the organizations to attain greater enterprise agility and support its overall strategy.

TL;DR: It was concluded that both techniques were effective in the treatment of recurrent dislocation of the temporomandibular joint and maximum mouth opening was greater with eminectomy procedure and none of the patients operated on presented any recurrence of dislocation.
Abstract: Dislocation of the temporomandibular joint occurs when the mandibular condyle exits the glenoidal cavity and remains anteriorly locked to the articular eminence. It is repetitive (recurrent dislocation), usually associated with mandibular hypermobility and inclination of the articular eminence. AIM: This study intended to clinically and radiologically assess the technique of eminectomy and the use of a miniplate on the articular eminence for the treatment of recurrent dislocation of the temporomandibular joint of patients operated on at Oswaldo Cruz University Hospital from January to September 2003. STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective cohort. MATERIAL AND METHOD: The sample consisted of 11 patients. Eminectomy was performed on nine joints of five patients and the placement of a miniplate on the articular eminence was performed on 11 joints of six patients. Data collection was carried out through analysis of patient's medical charts and new postoperative visit. RESULTS: The results showed that there were no major postoperative complications with either technique. Maximum mouth opening was greater with eminectomy procedure and none of the patients operated on presented any recurrence of dislocation. CONCLUSION: It is concluded that both techniques were effective in the treatment of recurrent dislocation of the temporomandibular joint.

TL;DR: It is shown that lower serum osteocalcin is associated with the presence of MS and that osteoccin is inversely associated with BMI, WC, FPG and SBP, suggesting that osteocalin plays a part in the development of MS.
Abstract: Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the association of serum osteocalcin with the metabolic syndrome (MS) in men and premenopausal women &
