TL;DR: In this article, microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) from soybean hulls (SH) was obtained by reactive extrusion, which is an alternative and effective method for the production of MCC from lignocellulosic residues, and has the advantages of simplicity and was less polluting than conventional methods.

TL;DR: This paper used Response Surface Methodology to study the effect of extrusion variables: feed moisture (18, 21, 24), extruder temperature (120, 150, 180°C) and die diameter (3, 4, 5 mm) on cold viscosity, gel-forming capacity and retrogradation of extruded starches.

TL;DR: The physical, molecular, and functional properties of corn, cassava, and yam starches were related to the film properties of these starches as discussed by the authors, and the physical properties of the starches are related to their film properties.
Abstract: The physical, molecular, and functional properties of corn, cassava, and yam starches were related to the film properties of these starches. Corn, cassava, and yam starches contained 25%, 19%, and 30% amylose, respectively. Amylose from yam starch showed the smallest molecular weight among the starches and amylopectin from corn starch the smallest molecular weight. Cassava starch presented a higher amylopectin content, and its gels and films were less strong, more transparent, and more flexible than corn and yam films. Plasticized films of the three starches were more flexible, with a higher strain and lower stress at break when the glycerol content increased. Unplasticized films were brittle and had water vapor permeability values ranging from 6.75 x 10(-10) to 8.33 x 10(-10) g m(-1) s(-1) Pa(-1). These values decreased when the glycerol content reached 20 g/100 g of starch because a more compact structure was formed. Then, at a glycerol content of 40 g/100 g of starch, the WVP increased because the film matrixes became less dense.

TL;DR: Results showed that glycemia, interrenal cell size and GST activity, which were significantly higher in fish caged in the urban stream, were best able to distinguish between the most disturbed sites and the reference and caged P. lineatus showed to be a promising tool for the assessment and monitoring of tropical aquatic ecosystems.

TL;DR: This approach to determine 1RM strength values produced rapid lifting technique familiarization resulting in a need of 2 to 3 test sessions to achieve consistent 1RM measurements in untrained older women.
Abstract: Strength is a fundamental component of physical fitness, and therefore should be precisely assessed The purpose of this study was to analyze the number of testing sessions required to achieve consistent 1 repetition maximum (1RM) strength measurements in untrained older women Forty-five untrained older women were measured for 1RM in bench press machine (BP), leg extension (LE) machine, and free weight arm curl (AC) Reliability coefficients for trials 1 and 2 for BP (intraclass correlation coefficient [ICC] = 0973) and LE (ICC = 0976) were higher than for AC (ICC = 0953) Percent change from trial 1 to 2 for BP (35 ± 109%) and AC (38 ± 81%) was less than for LE (54 ± 62%), but all were significant increases between trials (p 005) in the third trial for BP (00 ± 00%), LE (12 ± 30%) and AC (27 ± 59%) Reliability coefficients rose for BP and LE (ICC = 0999) and AC (ICC = 0963) when a third trial was performed Bland and Altman plotting showed very small bias and limits of agreement (LoA) for both the exercises (BP: bias = 0 kg, limits of agreement = 0 kg; LE: bias = -016 kg, LoA = 221 kg; AC: bias = -011 kg, LoA = 172 kg) This approach to determine 1RM strength values produced rapid lifting technique familiarization resulting in a need of 2 to 3 test sessions to achieve consistent 1RM measurements in untrained older women
