TL;DR: The situational diagnosis of older adults with diabetes mellitus (DM) registered at a Basic Family Health Unit, using sociodemographic profile, health conditions and lifestyle provided indicators for the planning and execution of educational actions, based on interprofessional collaboration aimed at the promotion of health.
Abstract: Objective: To describe the situational diagnosis of older adults with diabetes mellitus (DM) registered at a Basic Family Health Unit, using sociodemographic profile, health conditions and lifestyle. Method: A descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out with 70 older adults in the city of Jijoca de Jericoacoara, Ceara, Brazil. Data were gathered from questionnaires on sociodemographic conditions, health and individual lifestyle profile, and were submitted to descriptive statistics techniques, and the results presented in tables. Results: The predominance of women was three times greater than men (52=74%); the mean age was 71.19 years (±7.12); the number of married people was higher than the other categories (44=62.8%); the vast majority of the sample received a pension equivalent to the minimum wage as a rural worker (64=91%); and just over half declared themselves to be literate (36=51.4%). In terms of health conditions, the majority (56=80%) had had DM for more than 10 years, although they considered their health status to be satisfactory (40=57.14%). Among the main complications were hypertension (n=53; 75.71%), muscle and joint pain (n=43; 61.43%) and hearing loss (48=68.57%). Conclusion: The present study provided indicators for the planning and execution of educational actions, based on interprofessional collaboration aimed at the promotion of health.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a new method of optical modulation using a conventional acousto-optic tunable filter, in which all-optical logic gates, namely AND and OR, are obtained by simultaneously operation of optical double sideband (ODSB) modulation and a pulse position frequency domain modulation (PPFDM).
Abstract: We propose a new method of optical modulation using a conventional acousto-optic tunable filter. In this device the all-optical logic gates, namely AND and OR, are obtained by simultaneously operation of optical double sideband (ODSB) modulation and a pulse position frequency domain modulation (PPFDM). This device shall operate with ultrashort soliton light pulses 100 ps. In this way, a pulse will carry two bits of information after been encoded by the modulation proposed here. We then analyze the modulation ODSB—PPFDM for input pulses, polarized in the two input modes, allowing a variation in the modulation parameter for each input pulse. A phase difference Δϕ = π rad was considered between both input pulses, it was obtained the occurrence of an AND (OR) logical gate at lower (upper) sideband of the TE output pulse as well as at upper (lower) sideband of the TM output pulse.

TL;DR: Large-field EDS measurements showed the major presence of the chemical elements calcium, oxygen, iron, aluminum and fluoride in the Ipubi fossil, indicating a greater influence of inorganic processes in its fossilization.
Abstract: The Ipubi and Romualdo Formations are Cretaceous units of the Araripe Basin (Santana Group). The first and most ancient was deposited in a lake environment, and some fossils were preserved in shales deposited under blackish conditions. The second was deposited in a marine environment, preserving a rich paleontological content in calcareous concretions. Considering that these two environments preserved their fossils under different processes, in this work we investigated the chemical composition of two fossilized specimens, one from each of the studied stratigraphic units, and compared them using vibrational spectroscopy techniques (Raman and IR), X-ray diffraction and large-field energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) mappings. Calcite was observed as the dominant phase and carbon was observed in the fossils as a byproduct of the decomposition. The preservation of hydroxide calcium phosphate (Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2, hydroxyapatite) was observed in both fossils. In addition, it was observed that there was a smaller amount of pyrite (pyritization) in the Romualdo Formation sample than in the Ipubi one. Large-field EDS measurements showed the major presence of the chemical elements calcium, oxygen, iron, aluminum and fluoride in the Ipubi fossil, indicating a greater influence of inorganic processes in its fossilization. Our results also suggest that the Romualdo Formation fossilization process involved the substitution of the hydroxyl group by fluorine, providing durability to the fossils.
