01 Sep 2006TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the stratigraphic, sedimentological and paleontological aspects in outcrops of carbonate deposits of the Gramame and Maria Farinha formations in the Paraiba Basin.
Abstract: This work deals an investigation of the stratigraphic, sedimentological and paleontological aspects, mainly ichnologic, in outcrops of carbonate deposits of the Gramame and Maria Farinha formations in the Paraiba Basin, northeast Brazil. The objective of the investigation was to obtain detailed information on the depositional environments of these units. The Gramame Formation was deposited in a regime of highstandstand system tract, belowstand the base level of fair weather waves where prevailed conditions of soft bottom and lowstand energy, but often reached by storm events, correlated to the Cruziana ichnofacies. The Maria Farinha Formation was deposited during a regressive event, with the increase of energy and siliciclastic input, important lateral facies variation and Cruziana-Skolithos ichnofacies . The eocenic carbonate rocks, that occur in the south coast of Paraiba state, present s expressive difference from the deposits of the typical Maria Farinha Formation, and it could represent another unit. These reefal carbonates was deposited in reef-lagoon s complexes and arc se pa rated from the Maria Farinha Formation by an unconformity and, probably indicate the establishment of a lowstand system tract . The ichnofacies interpreted for them was Trypanites?. The data integration suggests a paleobathymetry of middle to inner platform (150-80m), for the Gramame Formation, and inner platform to infralitoral (60-20m), including proximity of estuaries, for the Maria Farinha Formation.

TL;DR: In this article, the dielectric properties and behavior of DAs based on SrBi2Nb2O9 (SBN)-Bi2O3 composites were studied.
Abstract: We present a study of the dielectric properties and behaviour of dielectric resonator antennas (DRAs) based on SrBi2Nb2O9 (SBN)-Bi2O3 composites. X-ray diffraction is used for structural characteri...

TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluated the floristic relationships between the Cerrado and Caatinga vegetation and concluded that these two biomes are composed of a mixed flora with typical elements of these two Brazilian biomes.
Abstract: The Cerrado represents the largest extension of savanna in South America. It occupies large stretches of central Brazil, being fragmented towards the Northeast, Southeast, and South regions of the country. Examples of disjunct patches of vegetation with savanna physiognomy within the Caatinga can be found in the Chapada Diamantina, the Chapada do Araripe, in small areas of southern Ceara State, and also in the coastal plains. This study recorded the floristic composition of four savannas within the Caatinga in northern Ceara State and evaluated the floristic relationships between these and other savannas, Cerrado and Caatinga sites. Periodic floristic collections recorded 247 species distributed among 162 genera and 55 families. Fifty-seven percent of the recorded species were of herbaceous or sub-shrubby habit, while the majority of the flora was of the therophytic life-form. Biogeographic analyses revealed that the study sites differ from typical Cerrado in flora and life-form spectra and have closer floristic relationships with Caatinga vegetation. The presence of floristic elements from the Cerrado, together with species from the Caatinga, in the study sites allows us to conclude that these savanna enclaves in the Caatinga are composed of a mixed flora with typical elements of these two Brazilian biomes.

TL;DR: The thermal environment had influence on the CMS and on the percentage of milk fat in warmer periods, but the mechanism of heat dissipation was efficient for the animals to maintain homeothermy without affecting milk production.
Abstract: Aiming to evaluate the lactation performance and adaptability of confined dairy cows fed diets containing soybean and its by-products, this study used 12 Holstein cows with initial production of 30 kg milk -1 day -1 in feedlot system distributed in a 4 x 4 Latin square design. The experimental period lasted 84 days. The dry matter intake (DMI) and meteorological variables were recorded daily. Milk production was measured from the 15 th to the 21 st day, with milk analysis twice in each period, and physiological variables collected on the 15, 17 th and 21 st days of each experimental period. The thermal comfort indices and rectal temperature were considered normal, however the respiratory frequency and heart rate were different between the periods. Total milk production and percentage of crude protein were not affected. The thermal environment had influence on the CMS and on the percentage of milk fat in warmer periods, but the mechanism of heat dissipation was efficient for the animals to maintain homeothermy without affecting milk production.
