Abstract: Resumo O uso de agrotoxicos na agricultura brasileira e um problema de saude publica, dadas as contaminacoes no ambiente, em alimentos e as intoxicacoes na saude humana. Objetivou-se apresentar a distribuicao espacial da area plantada de lavouras, consumo de agrotoxicos e agravos a saude relacionados, como estrategia de Vigilância em Saude. Obteve-se dados de area plantada de 21 culturas predominantes, indicadores de consumo de agrotoxicos por hectare para cada cultura e agravos a saude. Espacializou-se o consumo de agrotoxicos nos municipios brasileiros e correlacionou-se as incidencias de intoxicacoes por agrotoxicos: aguda, subaguda e cronica. Constatou-se predominio dos cultivos de soja, milho e cana, que juntos corresponderam a 76% da area plantada no Brasil em 2015. Pulverizou-se 899 milhoes de litros de agrotoxicos nessas lavouras, com Mato Grosso, Parana e Rio Grande Sul tendo utilizado as maiores quantidades. Os agravos a saude apresentaram correlacoes positivas e significativas com o uso de agrotoxicos. A estrategia metodologica possibilitou identificar municipios prioritarios para a Vigilância em Saude e o desenvolvimento de acoes intersetoriais de prevencao e mitigacao dos impactos dos agrotoxicos na saude e ambiente.

Also included are illustrations of representative species of all taxa included in the key as well as supplementary references to studies at the species level.

Abstract: Burkholderia has only recently been recognized as a potential nitrogen-fixing symbiont of legumes, but we find that the origins of symbiosis in Burkholderia are much deeper than previously suspected. We sampled 143 symbionts from 47 native species of Mimosa across 1800 km in central Brazil and found that 98% were Burkholderia. Gene sequences defined seven distinct and divergent species complexes within the genus Burkholderia. The symbiosis-related genes formed deep Burkholderia-specific clades, each specific to a species complex, implying that these genes diverged over a long period within Burkholderia without substantial horizontal gene transfer between species complexes.

Abstract: A flora do Cerrado e de enorme riqueza, mas somente 1,5% de sua extensao e protegida por lei. Em vista disto, e preciso valorizar os recursos que ela oferece e que estao sob forte pressao de extincao, como as especies medicinais. Assim, o presente estudo faz uma revisao bibliografica aprofundada de trabalhos que indiquem as informacoes das especies medicinais do cerrado mato-grossense, com intuito de se estabelecer uma base de dados regionais e, consequentemente, iniciar uma discussao em nivel nacional. A revisao da flora medicinal constatou o total de 509 especies, distribuidas em 297 generos e 96 familias. As familias com maior numero de especies foram Asteraceae e Fabaceae (7% das especies) e os generos foram Hyptis e Tabebuia (oito especies). As especies com maior numero de citacoes bibliograficas foram Stryphnodendron adstringens (Mart.) Coville e Anemopaegma arvense (Vell.) Stelf. O predominio foi de especies arboreas (31%). Os valores relatados superaram, em muito, estimativas anteriores e, em vista das areas que ainda nao foram cobertas por pesquisas mato-grossenses, acredita-se que o presente resultado podera ser significativamente ampliado no futuro.

Abstract: Chitosan and Starch are polymers that can be obtained from renewable sources, with good film-forming properties and many applications in food industry, such as active and smart-packaging, which can monitor and inform consumers about food conditions in real-time. Hence, we report here a system for pH monitoring based on Chitosan, Corn Starch and red cabbage extract, all inexpensively obtained from renewable sources. The system was produced from medium molecular weight Chitosan, Corn–Starch and phytochemical extract from Brassica oleracea var. capitata (Red Cabbage). TG-DSC, FT-IR, Water Vapour Transmission Rate, as well as light microscopy were used to characterize the system. The colour variation after activation in different pH range was measured with the CIELab methodology. In order to validate the use of this system as a fish spoilage detection sensor, application tests were conducted with fish fillets. The results show that the system has good optical and morphological properties and is very sensitive to pH variations. During the application test, the system visually indicated pH changes. Thus, the system shows a clear response to pH variation of the samples. Therefore, it has potential to be used as a visual indicator of the storage and consumption conditions of food.
