TL;DR: In this paper, structural and structural studies have been carried out on the equiatomic percent alloy ZrCu using magnetic susceptibility measurements, metallography and X-ray diffraction.
Abstract: Constitutional and structural studies have been carried out on the equiatomic percent alloy ZrCu, using magnetic susceptibility measurements, metallography and X-ray diffraction. The high-temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements and the metallographic studies indicate the presence of two solid state transformations in this alloy, a martensitic transformation with Ms=440±5 K and a eutectoid transformation with TE=985±5 K. Thus, if the high-temperature ZrCu phase is metastably retained to lower temperatures then the martensitic transformation is observed, whereas prolonged annealing just below TE produces a eutectoid mixture; the metallographic studies indicate that this mixture is lamellar in nature. The X-ray diffraction studies indicate that the high-temperature ZrCu phase has the b c c CsCl-type structure.

TL;DR: In this article, a hierarchy of morphoclimactic processes is defined by the great variety of pediments with or without material, and the formation of the erosive complexes of pediment playas, elaborated independently and connected, is concluded in recent periods, by the opening of drainage and exorheism.
Abstract: Erosion surfaces in an area of faulted and folded relief are defined and localized in the Quadrilatero Ferrifero. The usual problems in delimiting the erosion surfaces are described. As a criterion, erosion levels are defined as reliefs of between 4 and 10% and controlled by spacial continuity and structural conditions. In identifying the areas of conserved relief, clearly separated from the dissected reliefs, the median is used instead of the mean. With this method a solution for the "cimeiras" surfaces in the Serra do Caraca was achieved, where neotectonic upheavals occured. The distribution pattern of contour lines for one generation of surfaces differs fundamentally from that of other generations. By the distinction of these patterns, lower levels are defined which are already controlled by the structures of great folds, principally in the synclines. By way of patterns and medians, the grade of surface coalescence is determined. A hierarchy of morphoclimactic processes is defined by the great variety of pediments with or without material. The formation of the erosive complexes of pediment-playas, elaborated independently and connected, is concluded in recent periods, by the opening of drainage and exorheism.

TL;DR: Mossbauer spectroscopy has been used to identify three different groups of chromite spinels, depending on the iron distribution over tetrahedral and octahedral sites as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: Mossbauer spectroscopy has been used to study nine natural chromite samples from deposits throughout Brazil and one sample from Philippine. It was possible to identify three different groups of chromite spinels, depending on the iron distribution over tetrahedral and octahedral sites. Using the Mossbauer Fe3+/Fe2+ ratio, chemical analysis and x-ray data a chemical formula was proposed for each group.

Abstract: This paper describes the susceptibility of various samples ofBoophilus microplus from the southern region of Minas Gerais State in Brazil to the 4 commonest organophosphorus acaricides employed in the area. All samples showed some degree of resistance to each of the compounds used. The resistance factor varied from 1.42 to 132.90, being less in the case of dicrotophos and fenthion than with chlorpyrifos and coumaphos.

TL;DR: Infectivity of Plasmodium gallinaceum (Brumpt) sporozoites isolated from midguts and salivary glands of experimentally infected Aedes fluviatilis (Lutz) was studied and suggested a somewhat higher infectivity of the 8- and 9-day salivARY-gland parasites than of the oocyst sporozoite.
Abstract: SYNOPSIS. Infectivity of Plasmodium gallinaceum (Brumpt) sporozoites isolated from midguts and salivary glands of experimentally infected Aedes fluviatilis (Lutz) was studied. The 2 populations were compared at 7, 8, and 9 days postisolation from mosquitoes, which were maintained at 27 C ± 1C and ∼75% relative humidity. Infectivity of the parasites was evaluated by the length of the prepatent period of the infection in 2-week-old chicks inoculated intramuscularly. Infection was caused by 7-day-old sporozoites from salivary glands, but not from midguts. Older sporozoites induced infection in all the inoculated chicks. The results suggested a somewhat higher infectivity of the 8- and 9-day salivary-gland parasites than of the oocyst sporozoites. However, unlike sporozoites from mammalian malaria, oocyst sporozoites from avian malaria were highly infective at this age.

TL;DR: In this paper, the ferroelastic transition is triggered by a phonon mediated ferrodistortive antiferroelectric ordering of the four OSe${O}$SeO-H(2) dipoles in the unit cell.
Abstract: The coupled pseudospin\char22{}acoustic-mode system in K${\mathrm{H}}_{3}$ ${(\mathrm{S}\mathrm{e}{\mathrm{O}}_{3})}_{2}$ has been investigated for the case of a resonant as well as for the case of a purely relaxational pseudospin mode. The ferroelastic transition is triggered by a phonon mediated ferrodistortive antiferroelectric ordering of the four H${\mathrm{O}}_{2}$SeO-H(2) \ifmmode\cdot\else\textperiodcentered\fi{}\ifmmode\cdot\else\textperiodcentered\fi{}\ifmmode\cdot\else\textperiodcentered\fi{} OSe${\mathrm{O}}_{2}$H two-position dipoles in the unit cell. The soft pseudospin mode of ${B}_{3g}$ symmetry is linearly coupled to the shear strain, and the renormalized elastic constant ${C}_{44}$ vanishes when the frequency of the soft pseudospin mode is still finite. The antiferroelectric dipolar ordering occurs without an enlargement of the unit cell.

TL;DR: In this article, both conceptual and numerical analyses of the integral profile method as applied to solidification problems are conducted, and it is shown that the method as it was generalized by Hills may lead in the latter case to serious contradictions with basic thermodynamic principles.
Abstract: In this paper both conceptual and numerical analyses of the integral profile method as applied to solidification problems are conducted. Two important examples are considered, viz. a case where the nonsteady state exact solution of the thermal field is known and a thermal analysis of continuous casting. It is shown that the method as it was generalized by Hills may lead in the latter case to serious contradictions with basic thermodynamic principles. It is also shown that the method developed by Tien using a different set of boundary conditions is unsuitable for treating general solidification problems. It is thus concluded that approximate solutions of the thermal field during solidification must be evaluated under rather severe boundary conditions.

TL;DR: Two glycopeptides fractions were obtained after digestion of the hemoglobin of Biomphalaria glabrata with pepsin and trypsin followed by fractionation in a Sephadex column and models of the two sugar moieties are proposed, based on the experimental findings.
Abstract: 1. 1. Two glycopeptides fractions were obtained after digestion of the hemoglobin of Biomphalaria glabrata with pepsin and trypsin followed by fractionation in a Sephadex column. 2. 2. Glycopeptide fraction I contains all galactosamine, all fucose, probably all manose and one half of glucosamine, present in the whole molecule. Galactosamine links the remaining sugar moiety to a threonine of the peptide chain. 3. 3. Glycopeptide fraction II contains, by exclusion, only glucosamine and galactose. 4. 4. Models of the two sugar moieties, are proposed, based on the experimental findings.

TL;DR: It was demonstrated that worms grown in rats, hamsters, Mastomys natalensis and Cebus monkeys were rejected by recipient animals previously immunized against red blood cells of the donor hosts, suggesting that host-like antigens are acquired by S. mansoni in all hosts.
Abstract: By transferring Schistosoma mansoni (12 to 14-day-old worms) from one host into the peritoneal cavity of a host of a different species, it was possible to demonstrate that worms grown in rats, hamsters, Mastomys natalensis and Cebus monkeys were rejected by recipient animals previously immunized against red blood cells of the donor hosts. These results suggest that host-like antigens are acquired by S. mansoni in all hosts. The transfer of worms into the peritoneal cavity has proved to be a simple and convenient method for studying the presence of host antigens in S. mansoni.

Abstract: A case of umbilical polyp composed of gastric mucosa is reported in an 8-year-old boy. This is an extremely rare lesion probably originating in remnants of the omphalo-enteric duct and mainly diagnosed in the newborn period. Clinically, this polyp should be differentiated from exhuberant proliferation of granulation tissue which represents the granuloma pyogenicum of the umbilical scar.

Abstract: It is very difficult to point out where, exactly, the complexity and greatness of a book lies. The portrayal of the characters, their psychological growth and reaction, the painting of the setting, the movement of the plot, the atmosphere, the tone and the thematic develQpment are all important items, and each of them, separately, contributes to the concretization of the whole.
