TL;DR: It was clear that the people assisted are frequently put into vulnerable situations, and, as a result, their autonomy is not respected as patients, citizens and human beings.
Abstract: The dental school clinics are unique assistance institutions providing health care through dental students. Moral conflicts and ethical dilemmas emerge specially as most people who attend these clinics are searching for specialized dental care not provided for, under Brazilian public health care. A qualitative, exploratory and descriptive research was performed at a dentistry course of a federal public university aiming to identify the ethical issues involved in patient attendance at the dental school clinic of this institution. The access and attendance routines were investigated, through which was clear that the people assisted are frequently put into vulnerable situations, and, as a result, their autonomy is not respected as patients, citizens and human beings. This article would like to bring this problem to the attention of the academy and to emphasize the responsibility all dental school professors have in the construction of the ethical competence of the future dentists as well as in their attitude toward the patients they assist at these institutions.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed an approximation between the health care of the LGBT population as object of analysis and the referred theoretical reference, in order to highlight the morality implied in gender phobias, notably heteronormativity, homophobia and cisnormativity.
Abstract: The discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in the social determination of the disease makes the issue of health care for the LGBT population (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transvestite and Transsexual) a question of ethics. Recognizing the Everyday Bioethics proposed by Giovanni Berlinguer as a powerful reference for the analysis of ethical problems, it is proposed an approximation between the health care of the LGBT population as object of analysis and the referred theoretical reference. For this reason, some concepts that allow us to highlight the morality implied in gender phobias, notably heteronormativity, homophobia and cisnormativity, are presented, in order to later draw the possible approximations between Everyday Bioethics and the health care problem of the LGBT population. It was considered that Everyday Bioethics constitutes a reflective apparatus of deep critical analysis to the way in which the health and life issues as a whole are treated, being able to include in its agenda the situations linked to the issues of gender, discrimination and social exclusion.

TL;DR: In this paper, a discussion of the interfaz entre EA and the conceptos of especismo and veganism is presented, relacionados al ideario del "abolicionismo animal" as clave conceptos clave for the construccion of una etica ecocentrica.

TL;DR: A taxonomic survey on fungus-growing ants (Attini) was made at 14 beaches on Santa Catarina Island, Brazil, and Sorensen's similarity coefficients were high, in spite of the lower numbers of ant species on sandy beaches.
Abstract: A taxonomic survey on fungus-growing ants (Attini) was made at 14 beaches on Santa Catarina Island (SC), Brazil. The samplings were manual, in soil or litterfall, in the following habitats: sandy beach, herbaceous vegetation and shrubby vegetation. From 12 species of Attini (ten of Acromyrmex Mayr and two of Cyphomyrmex Mayr), the most frequent were Cyphomyrmex morschi Emery and Acromyrmex crassispinus Forel, collected, respectively, on eight and ten of the monitored beaches. Altogether, Sorensen's similarity coefficients were high (range: 0.59-0.80), in spite of the lower numbers of ant species on sandy beaches.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors discuss therapeutic early delivery of an unviable fetus on the basis of moral premises and demonstrate the need to ensure the woman's autonomy in the event of a pregnancy with an anencephalous fetus, such that, after reflection and discussion with her peers, the decision on whether to terminate the pregnancy when faced with the diagnosis of fetal malformation must be hers alone.
Abstract: Anencephaly is a severe fetal anomaly that is incompatible with extrauterine life. This paper addresses this malformation and its consequences on the life of the pregnant woman, based on the nonexistence of potential fetal life, which makes termination of the pregnancy legally permitted. The procedure performed in this case is known as therapeutic early delivery, and should not in any way be confused with abortion. The distinctions between these two institutes are highlighted, and the issue of anencephaly is dealt with, showing its lethal nature. Likewise, this study seeks to emphasize the greater possibility of risk to the woman’s health in pregnancies of this type. Ethical issues relating to human life and the human being and person are also addressed, discussing therapeutic early delivery of an unviable fetus on the basis of moral premises. The aim is therefore to demonstrate the need to ensure the woman’s autonomy in the event of a pregnancy with an anencephalous fetus, such that, after reflection and discussion with her peers, the decision on whether to terminate the pregnancy when faced with the diagnosis of fetal malformation must be hers alone.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors evaluate what, historically, has been made with the associations and attempts to their organization in national, regional or local levels and start a work to allow for more organization, participation and representation of the AEC in the system of development of science, technology and higher education in the country, regardless of how precarious it might still be or how incipient the initial efforts to construct these conditions.
Abstract: The scientific activity occurs under influences of scientific, academic and social politics. In Brazil, particularly, the work to produce scientific knowledge depends intensely on these conditions. The possibilities to produce knowledge in experimental analysis of the behavior and its results, either scientific or technological and social, are still limited by unfamiliarity or prejudice. The organization of the behavior analysts, their participation in the system of the country's science development, technology and higher education is an important condition for the development of this area in psychology. An only circumstantial organization, improvised or located in geographic areas or non representative groups will run the risk of becoming inefficient and have little force or durability. Organization and representation depend on conditions for representation. All this require a basic structure of relationship and work towards supporting the organization, the participation and the representation. All these conditions, in turn, strongly depend on a gradual qualification and perfectioning of the behavior analysts so that the development of the AEC in the country is evaluated not only by amount of publications, events or participation in them. The volume of production and activity needs to also express an upgrade in the quality of the production, the formation of new analysts, the permanent perfectioning, a deep update of the currently operating ones, in the improvement of the conditions of knowledge production on the behavior and the spreading and diffusion of this knowledge and in the formation of new generations of psychologists. In the first decade of the XXI Century, publications already exist, programs of post-graduation and courses directed toward this knowledge and the performance of the behavior analysts. It seems to be a good moment to evaluate what, historically, has been made with the associations and attempts to their organization in national, regional or local levels and to start a work to allow for more organization, participation and representation of the AEC in the system of development of science, technology and higher education in the country, regardless of how precarious it might still be or how incipient the initial efforts to construct these conditions.

TL;DR: Palavras-Chave et al. as discussed by the authors analyzed the impact of shading devices on the performance of natural ventilation in an infirmary room in Florianopolis, Brazil, and concluded that shading devices have not only a well-known importance on reducing solar heat gain but also they can help to improve natural ventilation performance.
Abstract The main purpose of shading devices is controling windows heat gain. However, these elements can have an influence on natural ventilation control according its geometry and wind direction. In hospitals, natural ventilation can be used to reduce the energy consumption, to provide thermal comfort and to control hospital-acquired infections through air renewal for all rooms where the HVAC systems is not mandatory. This paper analyzes the impact of shading devices on the performance of natural ventilation in an infirmary room in Florianopolis, Brazil. For a detailed analysis of natural ventilation, this study combined computational simulation with Airflow Network model and CFD. Two cases were simulated: case 1 reproduces the existing building project without shading devices and case 2 analyses the same model with shading devices in all windows. Results have shown that shading devices can impose on airflow behavior increasing the inlet wind velocity and hence the internal air velocity average. In conclusion, shading devices have not only a well-known importance on reducing solar heat gain but also they can help to improve natural ventilation performance. TL;DR: This paper presents the results of “Recognition of University Library”, which consists of the first application step of GC@BU, wherein it is characterized as a Complex Adaptive System (CAS).
Abstract: Knowledge Management (KM) has been used strategically in organizations. Similarly, the university libraries must use this management tool to get competitive advantage and encourage the use of knowledge. Using the Framework GC@BU the UFSC University Library started the KM activities in its environment. This paper presents the results of “Recognition of University Library”, which consists of the first application step of GC@BU, wherein it is characterized as a Complex Adaptive System (CAS). Supported by a committee created for this purpose, fortnightly discussions were held about the topic to identify, assess and record the main elements that make up the library. We check that the application of GC@BU, even if initially, showed positive results, checking how specific, adaptive and dynamic the tool is.

Abstract: The advent of Law No. 10,639/03 has led us to a series of problems concerning our culture and identity, revisiting a question that was commonplace in Brazilian social thought in 1920’s and 30’s: “Who are we?”. To assist us in trying to answer this question, in this article I propose a reflection on the contributions of the work of Gilberto Freyre (1900-1987) towards this question, which will be developed based on two axes: In the first I will attempt to explain the relationship between race and education in the author’s thought, in the second the focus will be Freyre’s interpretation regarding African culture in the formation of Brazilian society, and at this point I will make an effort to indicate how such interpretation can contribute to the discussion brought about by lthe law No. 10,639 / 03.

TL;DR: In this article, a qualitative analysis of the ethical conceptions of a group of pharmacists working in the context of primary health care in a southern city in Brazil is presented. But the analysis showed that most participants showed some degree of difficulty to express their understanding of ethics, with predominance of a deontological conception.
Abstract: It is a qualitative research that aimed to analyse the ethical conceptions of a group of pharmacists working in the context of Primary Health Care in a southern city in Brazil. We interviewed 19 pharmacists with the help of a semi-structured script. The interviews were transcribed and data analysed through the Thematic Content Analysis technique. It was observed that most participants showed some degree of difficulty to express their understanding of ethics, however the analysis showed different concepts and explanations, with predominance of a deontological conception. The deficiencies in professional education, especially in undergraduate, "where professional ethics" are still the hegemonic paradigm, wrere pointed out as an important critical node to be overcome. This limitations and distortions in the way of understanding ethics may contributes to failures in competence to identify, describe and explain the ethical problems present in daily life of health services and, consequently, also in the ability to deal with them.
