Analysis of the Local Deformations in Machine Joints

Abstract: This paper presents a general method for calculating the pressure distribution and the deformations in machine joints. This method assumes that the components of the joint are connected through finite elements which are defined as a function of the surface finish, material and pressure at the apparent area of contact. The system so established is solved in an iterative manner using the finite-element method, obtaining, as a final result, the pressure distribution at the contacting surfaces of the components and the deformations of the surrounding body. To prove the validity and precision of the theoretical formulation, several examples of joints are considered where the correlation between the calculated and measured deflections is shown to be good.

Flora da restinga da Ilha de Santa Catarina Material Suplementar: Carta Chorographica do Município de Florianópolis

Abstract: A flora da Ilha de Santa Catarina e deveras impressionante, tanto pela sua exuberância como pela variedade de especies, e so mesmo quem a pesquisou, pode aquilatar sua riqueza. Por mais explorada que seja, sempre nos dara motivos para temas e dentre eles, o que ora apresentamos. Procuramos neste trabalho, registrar as caracteristicas da vegetacao existente na restinga da Ilha de Santa Catarina, oferecendo um quadro geral dos agrupamentos mais importantes, condicionados pelo meio ambiente onde estudamos a vegetacao que se desenvolve nas areias e zonas de elevado teor salino, procurando registrar tambem, por estar intimamente ligada, a vegetacao das zonas rochosas e das lagunas.Vai exposto como procedemos para levantar as especies existentes, sua abundância, bem como, seu desenvolvimento, onde podemos constatar a influencia marinha e do solo arenoso como fator preponderante, desempenhando o clima papel de menor importância. Abstract Only one has researched the Island of Santa Catarina with its impressive flora, as for the exuberance as well as for the variety of species, can evaluate its richness. In spite of all exploitation, it will always give reason for new topics, and among them, the one now presented. We have attempted to register, in this work, all the characteristics of the existing vegetation in the sand bank of the Island, presenting a complete table of the most important groups, subjected by the environment where we have studied the vegetation developping in the sandy plains, and areas with high contents of salt, also listing, due to its relationship, the vegetation found in rocky areas and the lagoon. It is also stated how we have proceeded in the uprising of the existing species, its abundance as well as its development, where we can see the marine influence and of the sandy soil as a main factor, being the climate of less importance.

Reliability Indices for a Power Network Considering Static, Transient, and Dynamic Performance

Abstract: We propose to include stability margin violations which characterize the static, dynamic, and transient performance in the face of contingencies (e.g., loss of lines, loss of generation, load variations, and short circuits) in the definition of reliability indices, besides the usual continuity of supply at load points. Using the method of Lyapunov, the stability margins are defined to be a norm of the steady-state power angle differences, an estimate of the dynamic stability domain, and an estimate of the transient stability domain. The reliability indices are derived from a decision theoretic model; the decision surface incorporates the criterion of stability margin violations. The utility of the proposed index is shown by analyzing an example of a realistic system.
