TL;DR: This study represents the first report of Ceratocystis fimbriata as a pathogen of Eucalyptus in Africa and is a serious new disease that will require considerable study in order to ensure that losses, caused by C. fimbRIata, do not continue.
Abstract: Summary In a recent survey of Eucalyptus clones in the Republic of Congo, Central Africa, a serious wilt and die-back disease of two different hybrid clones was observed. Affected trees ranged in age from approximately 6 months to 4 years. Isolations from symptomatic plant material consistently yielded a Ceratocystis species. On the basis of morphology and sequence data this fungus was identified as Ceratocystis fimbriata, a well-known wilt and canker pathogen of many economically important plants. The Eucalyptus isolates were compared with other Ceratocystis spp. based on sequence data generated from the ITS and 5.8S region of the rRNA operon. The results confirmed the identity of the Ceratocystis isolates from Eucalyptus as C. fimbriata and showed that they group with other C. fimbriata isolates from Brazil, South Africa and Europe. Inoculations on young Eucalyptus plants were conducted in the greenhouse and all three of the Congolese isolates tested, produced typical lesions in the bark and xylem. This study represents the first report of C. fimbriata as a pathogen of Eucalyptus in Africa. This is a serious new disease that will require considerable study in order to ensure that losses, caused by C. fimbriata, do not continue.

TL;DR: Bacillus thuringiensis, lufenuron and triflumuron may be used in integrated pest management programs to control tomato pests, because they have moderated negative effect on parasitoid wasps.
Abstract: The effect of nine insecticides used in tomato production was evaluated on adults of two Trichogramma pretiosum Riley (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae) populations from Rive and Afonso Claudio, Espirito Santo State, Brazil. The experiment was developed in an acclimatized chamber at 25 ± 1°C, 70 ± 10% relative humidity and 14 h photophase. Eggs of Anagasta kuehniella (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae), previously immersed in insecticides solutions were offered to females of both T. pretiosum populations. Bacillus thuringiensis, lufenuron and triflumuron had lowest negative effects on parasitism and viability of individuals of these populations; however, abamectin and pyrethroids (betacyflurin 50 and 125 g/l and esfenvalerate) insecticides reduced parasitism rates. T. pretiosum emerged from A. kuehniella eggs treated with esfenvalerate but were not able to parasitize non treated eggs of this host. B. thuringiensis, lufenuron and triflumuron may be used in integrated pest management programs to control tomato pests, because they have moderated negative effect on parasitoid wasps.

TL;DR: The Programa de Educacao em Solos e Meio Ambiente (PES) as mentioned in this paper is an example of a pedagogia dedicated to the preservation of homem-natureza.
Abstract: O solo e um componente essencial do meio ambiente, cuja importância e normalmente desconsiderada e pouco valorizada.

TL;DR: Assessment of diversity in the Botryosphaeriaceae on trees and fruit of mango in a semi-arid region in northeastern Brazil confirmed the presence of Lasiodiplodia theobromae in the region, and for the first time report Fusicoccum aesculi and NeofusICoccum parvum.
Abstract: The aim of the present study was to assess diversity in the Botryosphaeriaceae on trees and fruit of mango (Mangifera indica L.) in a semi-arid region in northeastern Brazil in which most exported fruit in the country are produced. Using morphological characteristics and DNA sequence data (ITS-1, ITS-2 and 5.8S rDNA) we confirmed the presence of Lasiodiplodia theobromae in the region, and for the first time report Fusicoccum aesculi and Neofusicoccum parvum. L. theobromae was prevalent in the Assu Valley and F. aesculi and N. parvum were in the Sao Francisco Valley. In fruit inoculations, L. theobromae and N. parvum were more virulent than F. aesculi.
