01 Oct 2008TL;DR: In this paper, a critical study of Halbwachs's ideas on the relationship between "memory" and "society" is presented, and a brief presentation of the stories concerning their migrations in order to discuss the social mechanisms that impress upon their recollections meanings that both converge or diverge amongst themselves.
Abstract: This article seeks to put into focus the study of the relationship between "memory" and social belonging. Beginning with a critique of the objectives and tools advanced in Maurice Halbwachs's writings on "collective memory", the article embarks on a discussion of the social conditions that inflect upon the production of memories among people linked to a given social configuration. The empirical bases for the analysis are the recollections produced by peasant immigrants of Slavic origin - the "Rusyns" or "Ukrainians" - concerning their journey to Brazil in the end of the nineteenth century. The article starts with a critical study of Halbwachs's ideas on the relationship between "memory" and "society", and, after a brief presentation of the Ukrainian immigrants, explores the stories concerning their migrations in order to discuss the social mechanisms that impress upon their recollections meanings that both converge or diverge amongst themselves. It concludes by an examination of some of the implications of the analysis.

TL;DR: It was observed that the severity of the cytopathic effect depended on the mycoplasma specie, on the concentration and on the time of contact with the cellular culture, which evidences the importance of controlling the presence of myCoplasma in biotechnological industries.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors report the experience of engineering courses at Positivo University from the need to engage students and develop the highest order skills in Anderson's Taxonomy et al. (2001).
Abstract: The article reports the experience of Engineering courses at Positivo University from the need to engage students and develop the highest order skills in Anderson's Taxonomy et al. (2001). In the context of pedagogical practices, a Project-Based Learning was developed with students of the first year of Engineering. The didactic sequences articulate theory and practice, favoring the study of conic, quadratic, cylindrical surfaces and their applications. Specifically, Project-Based Learning was used as a methodological strategy to make classes more interactive, reducing student passivity, developing autonomy and engagement from real problems and situations. The results of the experiment demonstrated a significant difference in student performance in the assessments that involved the proposed study themes.

TL;DR: No evidence of associated genetic variants, which can determine the development of TMD in individuals, could be translated to novel clinical management and public health strategies for patients suffering from TMD.
Abstract: Objectives The aim was to review the literature regarding genetic contributions to temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) after our 2008 publication. Setting and sample population Literature review. Material and methods PubMed and MEDLINE were used to obtain literature in any language regarding genes and TMD, using the keywords "temporomandibular joint disorder" and "temporomandibular joint dysfunction" for studies published from 2009 to 2017. Results In our search, 274 studies were found. We excluded 76 studies from animal models, 22 studies that were in vitro and 120 reports that were not cohort or case-control studies. Of the 274 results, 56 articles were selected for this review. Genes that are suggested to contribute to TMD included the ones related to disc and bone alterations as well as pain sensation. Conclusion Currently, no evidence of associated genetic variants, which can determine the development of TMD in individuals, could be translated to novel clinical management and public health strategies for patients suffering from TMD.

TL;DR: The persistence of calcium hydroxide residues reduces the penetration of filling material in simulated lateral canals, possibly representing a potential cause of failure in the future.
Abstract: AIM The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of calcium hydroxide dressing on the filling of simulated lateral canals by different obturation techniques MATERIALS AND METHODS Sixty single-root-premolars were instrumented Simulated lateral canals were drilled on each third of the roots The teeth were divided into four groups: no dressing and obturation by lateral condensation technique (G1), dressing with calcium hydroxide and obturation by lateral condensation technique (G2), no dressing and obturation by hybrid technique (G3) and, dressing with calcium hydroxide and obturation by hybrid technique (G4) The teeth were maintained at 37°C in 100% humidity for 7 days, and obturation techniques were performed Radiographs were taken and filled or unfilled lateral canals were counted Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Tukey's test (a = 5%) RESULTS The hybrid technique filled large number of lateral canals as compared to lateral condensation technique, regardless the use of intracanal medication (p < 005) Calcium hydroxide decreased the number of lateral canals filled for both lateral and hybrid techniques (p < 005) Significant differences were observed when comparing the number of filled and unfilled lateral canals in the same root third of each group (p < 005) CONCLUSION Regardless the obturation technique, calcium hydroxide dressing reduced the penetration of filling material in simulated lateral canals CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE The persistence of calcium hydroxide residues reduces the penetration of filling material in simulated lateral canals, possibly representing a potential cause of failure in the future
