TL;DR: O apoio social fornecido pelos pais e amigos foi associado a maior prática de atividades físicas em adolescentes eutróficos e com sobrepeso.
Abstract: To analyze the association of the social support of parents and friends with the physical activity level of normal weight and overweight adolescents. A cross-sectional study with a sample of 952 adolescents (15.72 ± 1.48 years, 53.8% girls). Different types of social support for physical activities from parents and friends were evaluated. A questionnaire measured physical activity level. Body mass index evaluated nutritional status. Poisson regression, with robust variance tested the associations. Parents social support was associated with attend the physical activities for normal weight adolescents (“sometimes” – PR = 1.60; CI95%: 1.16-2.19 and “always” – PR = 1.82; CI95%: 1,09-3,04) and overweight (“sometimes” – PR = 3.26, CI95%: 1.23-8.63) and comments positively about physical activities for normal weight adolescents (“sometimes” – PR = 1.49; CI95%: 1.08-2.07) and overweight (“sometimes” – PR = 3.11; CI95%: 1.12-8.59). Friends social support was associated for practice activities together for overweight adolescents (“always” – PR = 2.57; CI95%: 1.02-6.44) and attend physical activity for normal weight adolescents (“always” – PR = 1.52; CI95%: 1.01-2.32) and overweight (“always” – PR = 3.68; CI95%: 1.19-11.35). Parents and friends social support associated with greater physical activity levels in both normal weight and overweight adolescents.

TL;DR: The method using micro-CT may be considered for preload calculation and three rods with known lengths were scanned and the length of their virtual model was measured and compared with the original length.
Abstract: This study aimed to measure the preload in different implant platform geometries based on micro-CT images. External hexagon (EH) implants and Morse Tapered (MT) implants (n=5) were used for the preload measurement. The abutment screws were scanned in micro-CT to obtain their virtual models, which were used to record their initial length. The abutments were screwed on the implant with a 20 Ncm torque and the set composed by implant, abutment screw and abutment were taken to the micro-CT scanner to obtain virtual slices of the specimens. These slices allowed the measurement of screw lengths after torque application and based on the screw elongation. Preload values were calculated using the Hooke's Law. The preloads of both groups were compared by independent t-test. Removal torque of each specimen was recorded. To evaluate the accuracy of the micro-CT technique, three rods with known lengths were scanned and the length of their virtual model was measured and compared with the original length. One rod was scanned four times to evaluate the measuring method variation. There was no difference between groups for preload (EH = 461.6 N and MT = 477.4 N), but the EH group showed higher removal torque values (13.8 ± 4.7 against 8.2 ± 3.6 N cm for MT group). The micro-CT technique showed a variability of 0.053% and repeatability showed an error of 0.23 to 0.28%. Within the limitations of this study, there was no difference between external hexagon and Morse taper for preload. The method using micro-CT may be considered for preload calculation.

TL;DR: There were no changes in the prevalence of recurrent wheezing in infants, but there was an increase in physician-diagnosed asthma and a reduction in severity, which, however, did not affect the rate of hospitalizations.
Abstract: OBJECTIVE: To determine epidemiological changes in recurrent wheezing among infants in Curitiba, Brazil. METHODS: This cross-sectional study used the questionnaire Estudio Internacional de Sibilancias en Lactantes (EISL). Parents of infants aged 12 to 15 months completed the instrument from August 2005 to December 2006 (phase I) and from September 2009 to September 2010 (phase III). RESULTS: Parents of 3,003 infants participated in phase I, and 22.6% of the infants had recurrent wheezing (> 3 episodes). After 5 years, 1,003 parents completed the same questionnaire during phase III, and 19.8% of the infants had recurrent wheezing (p = 0.1). There was a reduction in symptom severity (p = 0.001) and number of emergency department visits (p < 0.001), but not in number of hospitalizations (p = 0.12). Physician-diagnosed asthma was more frequent in phase III (p = 0.03). CONCLUSIONS: There were no changes in the prevalence of recurrent wheezing in infants, but there was an increase in physician-diagnosed asthma and a reduction in severity, which, however, did not affect the rate of hospitalizations.

TL;DR: In this article, the combined effect of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) or sodium carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) on the solubility of pyrimethamine (PYR) was studied.
Abstract: The combined effect of hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HPβCD) and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) or sodium carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) on the solubility of pyrimethamine (PYR) was studied. Equimolar PYR-HPβCD solid systems, in the presence or the absence of 0.25% (w/v) PVP or 0.10% (w/v) CMC were prepared by coevaporation or freeze-drying, and characterized by differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffraction analysis and dissolution profile. Phase-solubility analysis was used to investigate the interactions in aqueous solution between PYR and HPβCD, in the absence or presence of polymers, which showed a linear increase of PYR solubility depending on the concentration of HPβCD. The presence of polymer did not alter the stoichiometry of the complexes. DSC results were indicative of complexation, due to the loss of the characteristic endothermic peak of PYR. X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed the DSC results. Binary and ternary complexes showed higher dissolution rate when compared with the pure drug.

TL;DR: In this paper, a case study about the Federal Revenue Service of Brazil (RFB) is presented to understand how the strategic management occurs in the Brazilian federal government by the match between the precepts of the New Public Management and the Balanced Scorecard.
Abstract: The 1970s and 1980s of the last century faced the arise of a new thought about public administration. This new thought had the intention to break away from the bureaucracy theory. Therefore, it searched for a close connection with the concepts that concern the private sector. These actions were a response to a crisis scenario that was settled in several countries. As a consequence of this, the New Public Management popped up, and it greatly influenced the State's structural reforms that were implemented in Brazil during 1990s. These reforms intended to consolidate a State that would have efficiency as one of its fundamental principles. Besides that, the movement of managerial reform in the Brazilian State also connected the public organizations with the management models that are currently adopted by capitalist enterprises, as, for example, the strategic management models. Among these, the Balanced Scorecard is certainly one of the most notorious, since it is a performance measurement tool that is capable of realizing the distinct dimensions of State activity and able to notice the differences between public and private sector activities. Hence, the Balanced Scorecard grants the measurement of the State's performance, but not only: it also assists the preparation and the implementation of the State's strategies. Given such a context, this study aimed, through a case study about the Federal Revenue Service of Brazil (RFB), to understand how the Strategic Management occurs in the Brazilian federal government by the match between the precepts of the New Public Management and the Balanced Scorecard. Keywords: Public Administration, New Public Management, Balanced Scorecard
