TL;DR: The authors conclude that the use of this flap was shown to be a viable, safe technique with low complication and high success rates, which may contribute to the rehabilitation of well-indicated patients.
Abstract: Maxillary defects with buconasal/businusal communications are situations difficult to manage and solve. Several treatment options are available on the literature, each one with its indication. Temporal muscle flap is one of these options, being a technique that requires more experience of the surgeon to be properly performed and that is mainly indicated for difficult cases, large defects and those nonresponsive to simpler techniques. The main purpose of this paper is to report 3 clinical patients of the application of the temporal muscle flap for the closure of extensive oral defects. None of the patients had necrosis, nervous deficits, or any long-term changes. The authors conclude that the use of this flap was shown to be a viable, safe technique with low complication and high success rates, which may contribute to the rehabilitation of well-indicated patients.

TL;DR: Evaluated methods for maintaining the sterility of extracted human teeth during storage showed better results for teeth - including autoclaved teeth - stored in Incidin Extra N ® , formaldehyde, and alcohol.
Abstract: The importance of a human teeth bank in an institution is justified and it is advantageous, since it allows the maximum approximation of reality when working with the extracted organ. This study aimed to evaluate methods for maintaining the sterility of extracted human teeth during storage. A total of 72 human incisors extracted in the undergraduate and graduate clinics of Universidade Positivo (Curitiba, PR, Brazil) were used in this study. The teeth were provided by patients, who signed a donation form. After all teeth were subjected to cleaning and disinfection procedures, 36 teeth were autoclaved as well. Teeth were then stored in various solutions for periods of 15 and 120 days. Microbiological tests were conducted to determine which method or storage promoted maintenance of sterility. Better results were obtained for teeth - including autoclaved teeth - stored in Incidin Extra N ® , formaldehyde, and alcohol. The solutions analyzed over the proposed time periods have been shown to prevent microbial growth. Results of this study will aid in developing a protocol of processing for extracted human dental teeth to be stored in a tooth bank.

TL;DR: In this article, a reflective thematic analysis on 31 articles in the administration area, selected in the Web of Knowledge database and published until 2017, in which corruption and enforcement appeared in a related way.
Abstract: Context: in the administration literature, it is possible to identify several occurrences of the term enforcement, mainly related to studies of corruption. These mentions, however, are not uniform and often refer to different types of the phenomenon. In addition, they occur without connection to regulation studies, in which enforcement is a central concept. Objective: the objective of the present study is to identify the types of anti-corruption enforcement present in the administration literature in the light of the regulatory literature. Methods: we carried out a reflective thematic analysis on 31 articles in the administration area, selected in the Web of Knowledge database and published until 2017, in which corruption and enforcement appear in a related way. Results: at the end of the analysis, it was possible to identify four types of occurrence of the term in the literature: punitive, market, competitive, and cultural enforcement. These four types have unique characteristics in the light of the regulatory literature. Conclusions: the identification of types of anti-corruption enforcement contributes to differentiate the many ways in which the term is used in the literature. Furthermore, as a study of a typological nature, it offers a way to develop new theories, as well as to carry out empirical studies.

TL;DR: A retrospective, descriptive study of 704 patients treated for acute CVD at the Neurology Service of the Hospital in Curitiba, Brazil, over a period of three years found no relationship between mortality and specific risk factors, except for age over 65 years.
Abstract: Introduction Cerebrovascular disease (CVD) is the second most common cause of death. Despite the advances made in recent years with the introduction of specific treatment units and thrombolytics, CVD remains the leading cause of neurological hospitalization and adult disability. Objective Our objective is to determine the frequency and causes of early mortality, during hospitalization, of patients with acute CVD. Methods We conducted a retrospective, descriptive study of 704 patients treated for acute CVD at the Neurology Service of the Hospital in Curitiba, Brazil, over a period of three years, to whom the CVD Program protocol was applied. We checked the conditions at hospital discharge, obtaining the mortality rate and its causes. Results We studied 463 men and 241 women, over 14 years of age with an average of 64 years; 57 patients died. Of the 614 with ischemic CVD, nine males and four females died, establishing a mortality rate of 1.9%. Of the 90 patients with hemorrhagic CVD, 44 died: 26 male and 18 female. The main causes of death were arrhythmias, pneumonia with acute respiratory failure, acute myocardial infarction, and multiple organ failure. Conclusion We found no relationship between mortality and specific risk factors, except for age over 65 years. The low rate of deaths obtained in ischemic stroke reflects the multidisciplinary work involved in caring for patients with cerebrovascular disease in our center, which allows us to obtain results as low in mortality as those described in the literature.
