Avaliação de métodos de manutenção da esterilidade do órgão dental humano extraído para armazenamento em banco de dentes

Abstract: The importance of a human teeth bank in an institution is justified and it is advantageous, since it allows the maximum approximation of reality when working with the extracted organ. This study aimed to evaluate methods for maintaining the sterility of extracted human teeth during storage. A total of 72 human incisors extracted in the undergraduate and graduate clinics of Universidade Positivo (Curitiba, PR, Brazil) were used in this study. The teeth were provided by patients, who signed a donation form. After all teeth were subjected to cleaning and disinfection procedures, 36 teeth were autoclaved as well. Teeth were then stored in various solutions for periods of 15 and 120 days. Microbiological tests were conducted to determine which method or storage promoted maintenance of sterility. Better results were obtained for teeth - including autoclaved teeth - stored in Incidin Extra N ® , formaldehyde, and alcohol. The solutions analyzed over the proposed time periods have been shown to prevent microbial growth. Results of this study will aid in developing a protocol of processing for extracted human dental teeth to be stored in a tooth bank.

Entry Mode Influence On Strategic Positioning: Analysis Of Two Telephone Operators In Brazil

Abstract: This study analyzes the strategies and market positioning adopted by Brasil Telecom (incumbent) and GVT (mirror company) over the last few years. The research involved semi-structured interviews with executives of the two companies, as well as documental analysis, particularly of those companies' annual reports. The data was then confronted with a model that was consolidated by the authors based on previous work by Hrebiniak and Joyce, in 1985, and Hax and Wilde II, in 1996 and 2001. Results show that those organizations make strategic choices and develop organizational competences that are still influenced by the way they entered the market several years ago.

Efeito da redução de peso em pacientes submetidos à técnica do Bypass Gástrico em Y-de-Roux

Abstract: Objetivo Identificar o impacto da cirurgia bariatrica sobre o perfil metabolico de individuos submetidos ao Bypass Gastrico em Y-de Roux. Metodos Analise retrospectiva do periodo pre- e pos-operatorio de cinquenta e tres pacientes submetidos a tecnica cirurgica Bypass Gastrico em Y-de-Roux, com idade entre 18 e 63 anos, atendidos em um Centro de Saude Preventiva do Municipio de Curitiba, Parana. Foram coletados dados antropometricos e laboratoriais de Low Density Lipoproteins, High Density Lipoproteins, triglicerides, glicose de jejum e insulina de jejum no periodo pre- e pos-operatorio (6 meses, 12 meses e 24 meses) de prontuarios medicos. Resultados Entre os pacientes, 94,34% (n=50) eram mulheres com idade media de 45,04±9,17 anos. Foi observada reducao significativa do peso e indice de massa corporal, assim como concentracoes inferiores de glicose serica. O colesterol total (192,19±38,66 vs 162,38±30,42, p=<0,05), low density lipoproteins (119,81±31,68 vs 95,10±22,77), e Triglicerides (153,11±84,10 vs 80,64±35,52, p<0,01) quando comparados os periodos pre-operatorio e pos-operatorio (24 meses). No pos-operatorio de 24 meses foi observada remissao da hipertensao arterial, diabetes Mellitus e dislipidemia, sendo a obesidade mais comum no pos-operatorio de 2 anos estando presente em 21,00% dos pacientes. Conclusao O Bypass Gastrico em Y-de-Roux mostrou ser um procedimento eficaz na melhora do perfil metabolico de individuos com obesidade morbida, com resultados consistentes na perda de peso e remissao das principais comorbidades associadas a obesidade.
