TL;DR: Scientific evidence supports that combined use of protective ventilatory strategy and prone positioning for periods between 16 and 20 hours in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome and PaO2/FiO2 ratio lower than 150 mm/Hg results in significant reduction of mortality rate.
Abstract: OBJECTIVE To identify and integrate the available scientific evidence related to the use of the prone position in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome for the reduction of the outcome variable of mortality compared to the dorsal decubitus position. METHOD Overview of systematic reviews or meta-analyzes of randomized clinical trials. It included studies that evaluated the use of prone positioning in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome published between 2014 and 2016. The AMSTAR tool was used to determine the methodological quality of studies. The GRADE system was used to establish the overall quality of evidence for the mortality outcome. RESULTS From the search strategy, were retrieved seven relevant manuscripts of high methodological quality. CONCLUSION Scientific evidence supports that combined use of protective ventilatory strategy and prone positioning for periods between 16 and 20 hours in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome and PaO2/FiO2 ratio lower than 150 mm/Hg results in significant reduction of mortality rate.

TL;DR: The role played by the board of a firm is one of the main aspects considered in literature on corporate governance around of the world as mentioned in this paper, however not yet research is verified that analyze the role of the boards from the Social Network Analysis (SNA) in Brazil.
Abstract: The role played by the board of a firm is one of the main aspects considered in literature on corporate governance around of the world. simultaneously, the social and institutional relations have been seen as preponderant factor for the happened results of the performance of such boards of big companies. However not yet research is verified that analyze the role of the boards from the Social Network Analysis (SNA) in Brazil. In this manner, this study aims to verify the existence of associations between centrality level, density and cohesion of the boards of Brazilian companies and firmperformance. Then, we evaluate 615 individuals, that had formed the boards of the 90 listed companies in the Novo Mercado of the S˜ao Paulo Stock Exchange in 2007. The analysis was lead in two phases. In the first one we present the configuration of the networks of board members, in second place, we verify associations between structure of the network and performance. It was verified that the centrality, density and the cohesion of the firms, in terms of its board members, are related with performance, some times in terms of Return Over Assets (Roa), some times in debt. Of this form, we conclude that organizations most located in the networks of corporative relations tend to present greater yield and minor debt.

TL;DR: In this article, the abundance of soil and surface litter fauna in the western region of Santa Catarina state, southern Brazil, in the following land use systems (LUS): no-tillage crops (NT), integrated crop-livestock (ICL), pasture (PA), Eucalyptus plantation (EP), and native forest fragments (NF).
Abstract: The aim of this study was to evaluate the abundance of soil and surface litter fauna in the western region of Santa Catarina state, southern Brazil, in the following land use systems (LUS): no-tillage crops (NT), integrated crop-livestock (ICL), pasture (PA), Eucalyptus plantation (EP) and native forest fragments (NF). Sampling was done in three counties in the western region of Santa Catarina: Xanxere, Chapeco and Sao Miguel do Oeste, in two seasons (winter and summer). The evaluation of soil/litter fauna in each LUS was performed by installing nine "pitfall traps" per sampling grid (3 x 3). The counties are true replicas. The soil for the chemical attributes was collected at the same sampling points for soil fauna. Altogether, 17 taxa were identified in the five LUS. The presence of groups of fauna was influenced by the type of soil management used. The LUS NF and EP provide better soil conditions for the development of a higher diversity of soil fauna groups compared to other LUS, which showed varying degrees of human intervention, regardless of the sampling season (winter or summer). However, annual crop systems NT and ICL groups showed greater richness and total abundance when compared to the perennial systems (EP and PA). Principal component analysis is an important tool in the study of biological indicators of sustainability because it allows use of soil attributes (chemical and physical) as explanatory environmental variables, which helps in the interpretation of ecological

TL;DR: In this article, the authors have made efforts to constrain, effectively, with the strategies to strengthen the elderly and their relatives so it becomes possible to trigger health promotion actions, especially considering that the challenge for the millenium is to build collective awareness to achieve a society for all ages, with justice and the guarantee of full rights.
Abstract: Senescence and senility are themes of growing interest, considering the inxrease of the elderly population in the wrold, particularly in Brazil. Health care for the edlery should value to maintain quality of life, considering the loss process particular of aging and the possiblities to prevent, maintenain and rehabilitate their health condition. Knowing the everyday lives of the elderly has been a challenge for health care professsionals regardint the implementation of programs and actions that aim to maintain the balance of the health-disease process, and it is in this search that we have made efforts to constibute, effectively, with the strategies to strengthen the edlerly and their relatives so it becomes possible to trigger health promotion actions, especially considering that the challenge for the millenium is to build collective awareness to achieve a society for all ages, with justice and the guarantee of full rights.

TL;DR: Assessment of the clinical and economic performance of one of the commercially available buttressing absorbable materials when treating a high-risk population of gastric leaks and bleeding found this type of material can also result in cost-savings.
Abstract: Gastric leaks and bleeding are the most important complications after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG). The use of absorbable membranes as staple line reinforcement may decrease this risk. On the other hand, these materials bring additional costs and their economic impact is not well known. The purpose of this study was to assess the clinical and economic performance of one of the commercially available buttressing absorbable materials when treating a high-risk population. A retrospective, observational, and comparative study was conducted at Montpellier University Hospital, France, between July 2013 and September 2014. Patients undergoing LSG, who were at a high risk for leaks and bleeding, were included and treated according to two groups: no buttressing (July 2013 to January 2014) and buttressing (February 2014 to September 2014). Clinical and economic outcomes were measured throughout the first 6 months. Two hundred two patients were included in the study: 116 during the no stapling reinforcement period and 86 during the buttressing period. Baseline characteristics were similar. There was no significant difference between the two groups regarding gastric leaks. However, buttressing reduced hemorrhagic complications (0 vs 8.6 %, p = 0.005) and decreased average total hospital costs for the first hospitalization (5768 vs 6025 €, p < 0.001), as well as 6-month total inpatient cost (5944 vs. 6246 €, p < 0.001). Staple line reinforcement with absorbable material reduces bleeding in high-risk population. Therefore, this type of material can also result in cost-savings.
