Abstract: Introduction: The Sjogren's syndrome (SS) is an autoimmune disease characterized by lymphocytic infiltration. The currently most researched antibodies for its diagnosis are anti-La and anti-Ro, which, however, have low specificity in the case of SS secondary to rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The antibodies against alpha-fodrin (AF) have been proposed to diagnose SS. Objective: In the present study, we investigated the anti-AF antibody in a group of RA patients with and without secondary SS (sSS). Methods: Were studied 90 consecutive patients with RA (48.8% of them with SS), and samples of 45 healthy volunteers. Anti-AF immunoglobulin class G (IgG) and anti-AF immunoglobulin class A (IgA) were investigated by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and were considered positive when >15 U/ml. Demographic, clinical, and serological data were obtained from chart reviews. Results: Anti-AF IgA was positive in 46/90 (51.1%) of the RA sample and 3/45 (6.7%) of controls (p < 0.001); anti-AF IgG was found in 21/90 (23.3%) of RA patients and none of controls (p = 0.037). Neither IgA nor IgG anti-AF antibodies showed significant difference in patients with and without sSS. Conclusion: In our study, anti-AF IgA and anti-AF IgG neither alloweded diagnosis of sSS in RA patients, nor marked any special clinical or serological finding.

Abstract: The aim of this work was to study the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) as a tool of quality control of bovine sera and cellular cultures used in the biotechnological industry. A total of 46 samples of bovine sera derived from two slaughterhouses and 33 samples of BHK21 cells derived from two biotechnological industries were evaluated using the primers GPO-3 (sense) and MGSO (antisense). The PCR technique sensibility analysis showed that 280 bp were amplified for the quantities of 50 ng to 0.006 ng of Micoplasma DNA. The primers specificity was confirmed in the test using Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis and Candida albicans; except by the positive control, none of the samples showed amplification. The presence of Mycoplasma in bovine sera and in the cultures of BHK21 cells showed that 56.5 and 15.2%, respectively, were contaminated. Thus, it was possible to conclude that PCR was a fast and confident technique to detect mycoplasma and that it could be used to control the quality of immunobiological products and inputs, such as sera and cultures of BHK21 cells.

Abstract: O ensino organizado em ciclos pressupoe modificacoes no tempo/ espaco escolar em funcao do processo de aprendizagem das criancas. Este trabalho apresenta os procedimentos utilizados pelos educadores em escolas organizadas em ciclos, com relacao a integracao tempo/ espaco e aprendizagem no cotidiano da sala de aula, a partir da pesquisa realizada em escolas com o ensino organizado em ciclos. E uma pesquisa de abordagem qualitativa, na qual se realizaram entrevistas com 11 profissionais, sendo quatro pedagogas e sete professoras da 1a etapa do Ciclo I, de duas escolas publicas da cidade de Curitiba. Foi possivel observar que os procedimentos utilizados pelos educadores, tanto em sala de aula como fora dela, sao atividades pontuais e partem das dificuldades em relacao ao processo de aprendizagem dos alunos que as professoras observam. As colocacoes realizadas pelas profissionais e a literatura consultada demonstram que as discussoes sobre a concepcao de ciclo e a questao do tempo/espaco escolar como periodo de formacao e a aprendizagem necessitam ser retomadas para que se alcance o objetivo da formacao integral dos alunos.

Abstract: BACKGROUND: Staple line leaks carry significant morbidity and mortality. Reinforcement is controversial. Several staple techniques have been described for this purpose. Oversuture and butressing material are more common. AIM: To compare these two ways of reinforcement and staple line without any reinforcement regarding the bursting pressure. METHOD: Ten segments of small bowel were created in a pig under general anesthesia. The bowel was inflatted until burst point and the pressure was measured. RESULTS: The staple line bursting pressure was 94 mmHg +/- 18,52mmHg in the stapler technique; 87,5 mmHg +/- 18,59mmHg in the oversuture and 83,33 mmHg +/- 23,04mmHg with Surgisis®. There was no statistic difference among the techniques. CONCLUSIONS: Oversuture or Surgisis® use did not increase the staple line resistance in pig.

Abstract: Este trabalho tem como objetivo identificar os condicionantes para a formacao das comunidades de aprendizagem em dois Arranjos Produtivos Locais (APLs) em processos de internacionalizacao. Tendo como referencia o conceito de comunidade de aprendizagem foca a inter-relacao de empresas na medida em que se orientam para o compartilhamento de conhecimento com vistas a internacionalizacao. Foram conduzidos dois estudos de caso, com abordagem qualitativa e com finalidade descritiva, desenvolvendo-se em dois APL, um do ramo vestuario e outro do mobiliario; ambos totalizando 771 empresas. Alem de sugestao para o conceito de comunidade de aprendizagem, os resultados apontam, entre outros, os seguintes condicionantes: a governanca legitima e efetiva, principalmente no delineamento entre as areas de competicao e de colaboracao; a troca sistematica de informacao; sistemas eficientes de comunicacao; a formacao de entidades coletivas de compras; os centros de treinamento; as redes constituidas para a internacionalizacao; a troca de experiencias; e a confianca. Os resultados tanto confirmam como complementam referencias teoricas da area.
