TL;DR: This research presents a qualitative study of the main alternatives of pig manure disinfection, analyzing efficiency, advantages and limitations of each procedure.
Abstract: Swine manure agricultural use is a common practice in Brazil. Their physic-chemical characteristics favor its use as biofertilizer, but the presence of pathogens may become a risk to human health. This research presents a qualitative study of the main alternatives of pig manure disinfection, analyzing efficiency, advantages and limitations of each procedure. The disinfection studies reported in literature are based on the following treatments: alkaline, thermal, biological, chemical, and physical. The greater efficiencies are in thermal treatment (> 4 log: 60 °C), chemical treatment (3 to 4 log: 30mg Cl- L-1; 3 to 4 log: 40 mg O3 L-1) and physical treatment (3 a 4 log: 220 mJ UV radiation cm-2). The biological treatment (anaerobiosis) also promotes the pathogen reduction of swine manure, however with lower efficiency (1 to 2 log). The selection of the treatment should consider: implementation and operation cost, necessity of preliminary treatment, efficiency obtained and destination of the treated manure (agricultural use, water reuse). Brazilian regulation does not have specific guidelines for the microbiological quality of animal production effluents that is very important to be considered due to confined animal feeding operation transformation in the last years in the country.

TL;DR: A universal adhesive could be appropriate for restoration of MIH-affected teeth, and the survival of restorations could be higher in the total-etch technique, reducing dental pain and anxiety.
Abstract: This randomized clinical trial evaluated the survival of direct restorations on first permanent molars (FPMs) with molar incisor hypomineralization (MIH) and its impact on self-reported dental pain and dental anxiety. FPMs with MIH of 35 patients aged 7 to 16 years were included. The FPMs were randomized into the following two groups: total-etch (TE—37% phosphoric acid etching) and self-etch (SE—no prior etching). The FPMs were restored with universal adhesive and bulk-fill resin composites. The restoration survival was evaluated according to USPHS criteria modified by a blinded examiner. Dental anxiety (Venham picture test) and dental pain (Faces pain scale—revised) were evaluated before treatment and at 1, 6, and 12 months post-treatment. Survival rates were analyzed by the Kaplan-Meier method and the log-rank test. Nonparametric tests compared pain and anxiety in the follow-up periods. A total of 64 FPMs were restored (TE = 33; SE = 31). Survival rates were 96.9% (TE) and 96.7% (SE) after 1 month, 90.5% (TE) and 80.6% (SE) after 6 months, and 80.8% (TE) and 62.3% (SE) after 12 months (p > 0.05). Self-reported dental pain and anxiety level decreased after treatment in both groups (p < 0.05). Self-reported pain decreased after 1 month in SE, but it occurred at 6 months in TE. Both restorative protocols presented similar longevity, decreasing self-reported pain and anxiety levels. A universal adhesive could be appropriate for restoration of MIH-affected teeth, and the survival of restorations could be higher in the total-etch technique, reducing dental pain and anxiety.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyze the case of Brazil, where the modernization process has been marked by a unique colonial heritage and the central hypothesis is that strengthening of the farming system that was inherited from the colonial period was a decisive factor when the country fell behind the social, political and economic modernization processes that were taking place at that time in other parts of the world.
Abstract: The understanding of modern management in peripheral countries does not take into account research into their historical background that has come a different route from the Anglo-Saxons. In this study we shall be analyzing the case of Brazil, where the modernization process has been marked by a unique colonial heritage. The central hypothesis is that strengthening of the farming system that was inherited from the colonial period was a decisive factor when the country fell behind the social, political and economic modernization processes that were taking place at that time in other parts of the world. We set out with the premise that the persistence of rural logic in social and political spheres in republican Brazil was a determining factor for the configuration of industrial management with traits that were characteristic of patrimonialist societies. These are: (a) opting for protectionism based on political influence and privileges extended to the businessman, which characterizes relationships among the economic elite in Brazil; and (b) the subordination of formal authority and the technical competence of the professional manager to patriarchal personalist logic, which favors family ties and personal loyalty.

TL;DR: In this article, a review of cardiovascular data on 180 patients with MS receiving the first dose of fingolimod was performed, and the rate of bradycardia was higher than that observed in clinical trials with very strict inclusion criteria for patients.
Abstract: Fingolimod is a new and efficient treatment for multiple sclerosis (MS). The drug administration requires special attention to the first dose, since cardiovascular adverse events can be observed during the initial six hours of fingolimod ingestion. The present study consisted of a review of cardiovascular data on 180 patients with MS receiving the first dose of fingolimod. The rate of bradycardia in these patients was higher than that observed in clinical trials with very strict inclusion criteria for patients. There were less than 10% of cases requiring special attention, but no fatal cases. All but one patient continued the treatment after this initial dose. This is the first report on real-life administration of fingolimod to Brazilian patients with MS, and one of the few studies with these characteristics in the world.
