TL;DR: Evaluated body piercings among medical students found Piercing insertion occurred during adolescence, local inflammatory and infectious reactions were common, andScarring disorders and dermatitis appeared in the long term.
Abstract: BACKGROUND: Piercings are body embellishments commonly seen in young people, however their inherent risk of infection and scarring disorders are less divulged OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the prevalence of body piercings among medical students and their possible dermatologic consequences METHODS: Cross-sectional study with 58 medical students, by means of a structured questionnaire covering socio-demographic characteristics, technical issues related to the piercing and characteristics of the dermatologic complications RESULTS: The sample was predominantly female (862%), with mean age 24 ± 3 years The placement of the first piercing occurred during adolescence (median age 15), without medical supervision (914%) or knowledge of parents/guardians (74%) Most piercings were made of metal alloy/stainless steel, in a dumbbell model (517%), inserted in the umbilical area (535%) or ear (414%), with frequent cutaneous reactions in the first six months post-piercing Hypertrophic scarring, pain, swelling and infection (p<005) had significantly higher frequencies among those with navel piercings CONCLUSION: Piercing insertion occurred during adolescence Local inflammatory and infectious reactions were common Scarring disorders and dermatitis appeared in the long term There is need for preventive and educational activities, starting with those in the academic environment

TL;DR: The HPLC analysis identified Bis-GMA, TEGDMA and UDMA in detectable quantities for all the tested composites, and most of the monomers demonstrated maximal concentration at the 7-day period.
Abstract: The aim of this study was to detect and quantify the main residual monomers released from composites, using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Discs were made with dental composites (Herculite XRV, Tetric Ceram and Filtek Z250) and immersed in deionized water at 37oC for 28 days, with water changes in 1, 7, 14 and 21 days. The mean concentration of residual monomers were subject to the Kruskal-Wallis test (p<0.05). Tetric Ceram exhibited significantly higher concentrations of leached monomers. Bis-GMA was the monomer released in lower concentrations for all the materials. There was no statistical difference between the amounts of TEGDMA and UDMA. Most of the monomers demonstrated maximal concentration at the 7-day period. The HPLC analysis identified Bis-GMA, TEGDMA and UDMA in detectable quantities for all the tested composites.

TL;DR: The multicomponent training was effective to reduce or to reverse muscular age-related declines, which are associated with functional capacity and reduction of fall risk in older adults.
Abstract: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of multicomponent training program, designed to improve the torque around the ankle joint performing high-speed movement execution,...

TL;DR: In this article, the viscosity and thermal conductivity of binary, ternary, and quaternary mixtures of helium, neon, argon, and krypton at low density are computed for wide ranges of temperatures and molar fractions, applying the Chapman-Enskog method.
Abstract: The viscosity and thermal conductivity of binary, ternary, and quaternary mixtures of helium, neon, argon, and krypton at low density are computed for wide ranges of temperatures and molar fractions, applying the Chapman–Enskog method. Ab initio interatomic potentials are employed in order to calculate the omega-integrals. The relative numerical errors of the viscosity and thermal conductivity do not exceed 10−6 and 10−5, respectively. The relative uncertainty related to the interatomic potential is about 0.1%. A comparison of the present data with results reported in other papers available in the literature shows a significant improvement of accuracy of the transport coefficients considered here.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors consider how decision-makers in smaller firms interpret the means and conditions of internationalization, and how different modes of interpretation are likely to inform action choices in this process.
Abstract: This study considers how decision-makers in smaller firms interpret the means and conditions of internationalization, and how different modes of interpretation are likely to inform action choices in this process. Drawing on 58 qualitative interviews with the leaders of Brazilian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the clothing industry located in the state of Parana, the results support the contention that different understandings given to the means/conditions of internationalization are associated with different action choices. More specifically, the results indicate that: (a) interpretation changes the criteria and parameters by which rational choices on internationalization are made; (b) a comprehensive explanation of internationalization on the basis of situational characteristics is likely to be inconclusive without taking into account decision-makers' interpretations; (c) particular meanings given to internationalization are likely to inform choice in different ways, (d) managers act on the basis of their inter-subjectively negotiated, shared and sustained reality; and (e) investigative proximity with practitioners is pivotal in order to comprehensively account for their interpretations.
