TL;DR: The aim of this manuscript was to review the knowledge about leptin, detailing its relationship with energetic intake and physical activity, and to emphasize the need to evaluate the energy expenditure from exercise and to formulate adequate alimentary plans to individuals.
Abstract: The aim of this manuscript was to review the knowledge about leptin, detailing its relationship with energetic intake and physical activity. Leptin is an adipocyte hormone, recognized mainly for its putative role in control of energy expenditure, food intake, body weight and reproductive function. Leptin has still important peripheral actions, including its role on the ovarian tissue. The intracellular signaling mechanisms are recognized in hypothalamus, but in peripheral tissue are not fully understood. The exercise, when practiced by women, if not appropriately planned according to food intake, can modify the leptin release. When energy imbalances induced by exercise and/or deficient food ingestion occurs, low leptin levels are observed, leading to a reduction in GnRH (gonadotropin-release hormone), in LH (luteinizing hormone) and FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) in pituitary, and consequently a minor release of ovarian estrogens. This process is named hypothalamic amenorrhea, and has repercussions in the woman's health. In this perspective, it is important to emphasize the need to evaluate the energy expenditure from exercise and to formulate adequate alimentary plans to these individuals.

TL;DR: The results showed that both groups of parents tended to have positive attitudes in relation to inclusive education, however, parents of special educational needs students' attitudes were more positive.
Abstract: In order to describe parental attitudes toward school inclusion, 445 parents of elementary school students from first to fourth grade of two municipal schools of the city of Sao Paulo answered a questionnaire and the Likert scale General Inventory of Attitudes toward Inclusive Education (IGAEI) for assessing attitudes. The participants were 169 (37,98%) parents of students with special educational needs included in regular schools (G1) and 276 (62,02%) parents of students the school directors said did not have special needs (G2). The instruments were collectively applied during a parent teacher meeting using individual answer sheets. The results showed that both groups of parents tended to have positive attitudes in relation to inclusive education. However, parents of special educational needs students' attitudes were more positive. Results referring to other researched variables, i.e. types of special educational needs in inclusion process, are also presented. This study tends to corroborate research results from other countries, though some discrepancies have been perceived. In conclusion, this study highlights the importance of parental involvement in the development of inclusive educational systems and suggests that more research is required in the Brazilian educational context.

TL;DR: Both the number and diameter of the granules are larger in the right atrium in comparison with the other regions of the atrial-auricular complex, which leads to the supposition that this region is the one that most synthesizes and stores the ANP.
Abstract: The atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) is a peptide hormone that is mainly produced in the cardiac atria, where it is stored within granules. It is known that the four regions of the atrial-auricular complex (two atria and two auricles) produce and store ANP in the granules. However, no report has been presented comparing the presence of ANP, and the number and diameter of atrial granules in the atria and auricles. ANP immunoreactivity was detected in cardiocytes from the four regions of the atrial-auricular complex. No differences were observed among the regions. The number of granules was greatest in the right atrium followed by the left atrium and left auricle and right auricle, in this order. The diameter of granules in the cardiocytes was significantly largest in the right atrium and reduced via the left auricle to the left atrium and right auricle. Both the number and diameter of the granules are larger in the right atrium in comparison with the other regions of the atrial-auricular complex, which leads to the supposition that this region is the one that most synthesizes and stores the ANP.

TL;DR: In this article, an analytical method was developed and validated to determine e-caprolactam in 3% acetic acid solution and to study its migration from polyamide 6 into food simulant.
Abstract: The aim of this work was to develop and validate an analytical method to determine e-caprolactam in 3% acetic acid solution and to study its migration from polyamide 6 into food simulant. Gas chromatography was used with e-caprolactam as an analytical standard and 2-azacyclononanone as an internal standard. The linearity was obtained by the concentration range of 1.60 to 640.00 µg.mL-1, with a correlation coefficient of 0.9999. Detection and quantification limits of the method were 0.24 ng and 1.60 ng, respectively. Relative standard deviations obtained for method precision were less than 4.3%, while method accuracy showed recovery between 100 and 106%. The method was able to quantify e-caprolactam in the simulant, showing a wide linearity, good precision and accuracy. For the migration assay, polyamide 6 films were placed in glass vials containing 10 mL of simulant, which were hermetically capped and exposed at 40 °C for 10 days (total immersion). The amount of e-caprolactam that migrated from packaging into the simulant varied from 7.8 to 10.5 and 6.9 to 7.6 mg.Kg -1, for films used as meat products and cheese packaging, respectively.

TL;DR: The results show that young female smokers present harmful consequences in hemodynamic parameters at rest and in response to submaximal exercise, which can be partly reverted by short-term abstinence from tobacco use.
Abstract: OBJECTIVE: The objective of the present study was to verify the effect of tobacco smoking abstinence on cardiovascular responses to progressive submaximal physical exercise in sedentary female smokers. METHODS: Systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP) and heart rate (HR) were non-invasively measured in young non-smoking women (NSW, n = 7) and smoking women (SW, n = 7), with and without tobacco abstinence for 24 hours, at rest, during the accomplishment of a submaximal bicycle ergometric test and recovery period. RESULTS: At rest, DBP and HR were higher in the SW group (76 ± 1 mmHg and 86 ± 5 bpm) when compared to the NSW group (68 ± 2 mmHg and 72 ± 2 bpm). After 24 hours of no tobacco use, the groups presented similar values. During exercise, SBP and HR increased in the studied groups. DBP was higher in the SW group (~15%) in relation to the NSW group in all periods of exercise training. In the abstinence period, DBP only increased in the last load of exercise. During recovery period, in basal condition and 24h-abstinence, both DBP and HR were higher in the SW group when compared to the NSW group. CONCLUSION: These results show that young female smokers present harmful consequences in hemodynamic parameters at rest and in response to submaximal exercise. These findings can be partly reverted by short-term abstinence from tobacco use.

TL;DR: In this article, the influence of post-irradiation thermal treatments on the glass response fading was studied using different kinds of glass samples (bronze, brown and green).
Abstract: The use of colored glasses (bronze, brown and green) for high-dose dosimetry in routine procedures and as gamma radiation detectors has been investigated in this study. Different dosimetric techniques were employed using a densitometer, a spectrophotometer, a thermoluminescent reader and an electron paramagnetic resonance system. However, these kinds of samples show a strong post-irradiation thermal decay at room temperature, which is a problem for high-dose dosimetry purposes. This effect may be avoided by always taking measurements of the glass samples after the same post-irradiation time, for example 1 h. In this work, different thermal treatments have been applied to the glass radiation detectors. The influence of post-irradiation thermal treatments on the glass response fading was studied using different kinds of glass samples (bronze, brown and green). This process destroys the unstable color centers of the glass samples that are responsible for the initial strong response decay; after that the response becomes stable at room temperature. The different kinds of glasses show the possibility of their use for high doses of industrial, medical and agricultural applications, with the advantages of very low cost and easy handling.

TL;DR: In this article, the most important apprenticeship content for the students in this semester was sport, confirming the permanence of sport in the physical education image, interpreted as a strong social representation component.
Abstract: For the majority of Brazilian adults, remind the School Physical Education, let them remember the traditional sports worked as important content in the classes. As a school teacher, we fell some needs to investigate if this social representation of the adults remains on the students mind. So, this paper aims at investigating what are appreciated contents in the school physical education. The samples were eighty seven, which are students from sixth to ninth grade of elementary school, in the first semester, at private school, located in the east of the Sao Paulo City. This is a qualitative study, descriptive type. The students answered for the question: What do you think is important in the physical education classes? Why? The answers were registered, written out, analyzed and interpreted. The results showed us that the most important apprenticeship content for the students in this semester was sport, confirming the permanence of sport in the physical education image, interpreted as a strong social representation component. Well-being and physical development had been mentioned few times than sports. From these results, it is possible to reflect on the reasons that the others physical education contents no yet attained the students as the same importance that sports.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluated and compared the flow characteristics of granulates destined to the development of tablets of hydrochlorothiazide 50 mg. The obtained granulates presented good flow and compressibility properties, characterized by: values of compressibility index between 5 and 15; Hausner ratio less than 1,25 and angle of repose between 30 and 35o.
Abstract: The wet granulation process still finds large applicability close to the modern pharmaceutical industry for the production of tablets, because it eliminates some of the main attributed problems of the direct compression: the segregation tendency and the low flow properties of the powders during the process. The present work evaluates and it compares through micromeritical studies and statistical analysis the flow characteristics of granulates destined to the development of tablets of hydrochlorothiazide 50 mg. Three binders were tested (paste of starch and the aqueous dispersions, prepared to cold, of pregelatinized starch and povidone). It was still evaluated the compatibility between the drug and the employed excipients, through termoanalytical studies (DSC), and the influence of the extra granular addition of the "superdisintegrant" crospovidone in the values of dissolution efficiency (%DE) of the obtained tablets. The obtained granulates presented good flow and compressibility properties, characterized by: values of compressibility index between 5 and 15; Hausner ratio less than 1,25 and angle of repose between 30 and 35o. The crospovidone addition did not increase the values of %ED of the developed formulations, in the experimental conditions employed, although it has reduced, in way a low significance, the disintegration times of the formulations.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors verify whether the largest companies in terms of revenues in each segment of the economy evidence information on social responsibility in an adequate way, based on a checklist based on NBC-T 15.
Abstract: With adequate disclosure of information, interested parties will have instruments for evaluating the social performance of the organization. Besides generating information on finances and economics, accounting, in fulfillment of its role as supplier of information for various types of users, must also furnish information on social responsibility. The objective of this research was to verify whether the largest companies in terms of revenues in each segment of the Economy evidence information on social responsibility in an adequate way. As methodology, bibliographical research was made and documentary research developed starting with a checklist based in NBC - T 15, aimed at verifying the level of disclosure of information on social responsibility. Fourteen large revenue companies in each segment of the Economy had been selected; with the final sample including the 14 companies that had published their accounting statements. It can be stated that five companies showed poor notion of the concept; four presented excellent performance in the disclosure of information o social responsibility, while the others presented good or regular performance. It was verified that despite the scarcity of norms on social responsibility and even though they may not evidence their preoccupations clearly, companies are concerned about social questions. Keywords: Disclosure. Information. Social responsibility.

TL;DR: This paper proposes a representation that stores a row-sorted 1-variant matrix in O(m log m) space and access time of O(log m) and can be constructed in O-time, which constitutes a nice balance between access time, representation construction time, and space requirement.
Abstract: We investigate the efficient storage of row-sorted 1-variant (m + 1) × (n + 1) matrices, m > n, that have the following properties: the rows are sorted in strictly increasing order and the set of elements of each row differs only by one single element from the set of elements of the next row. It has been shown that row-sorted 1-variant matrices are important in several parallel string comparison applications. Due to the large amount of redundancy in the row elements, we investigate efficient data structures to store such matrices. In this paper we propose a representation that stores a row-sorted 1-variant matrix in O(m log m) space and access time of O(log m) and can be constructed in O(m log m) time. We thus seek a representation that constitutes a nice balance between access time, representation construction time, and space requirement.

Abstract: We studied and characterized the processes of electroless nickel deposition in order to use it in microelectronics and microtechnology. We perform electroless nickel deposition on silicon surfaces with acid solution on palladium preactivated surfaces as well as alkaline solution without palladium preactivation. Electroless deposition was also performed on aluminum surfaces, deposited by evaporation onto silicon oxide. MOS capacitors were also fabricated to perform electrical characterizations of the structure (nickel-aluminium-oxide-silicon) using capacitance-voltage plots (C-V curves). In addition, we also presented the use of electroless nickel deposition for chemical sensors which were fabricated using conventional microelectronics techniques. (© 2007 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. TL;DR: In this article, a relativistic O(q4) chiral expansion of the two-pion exchange NN potential was performed, and the configuration space content was explored by fitting the theoretical expressions to parametrized simply formulas.
Abstract: We have recently performed a relativistic O(q4) chiral expansion of the two-pion exchange NN potential, and explored its configuration space content by fitting the theoretical expressions to parametrized simply formulas. In order to test the applicability of our parametrized potential, we studied the pion plus production in proton-neutron scattering at threshold an compare our results to the ones given by Reid 93 and v18 potentials. We shown that our results are very close to the v18 potential, which means that the potential is reliable and trustful.

TL;DR: It was concluded that the positive perception about professional career appears to be related directly to the professionals’ inclination to keep participating in actions aimed at their continuing education.
Abstract: There are few studies on training and careers for professionals who work in the non-school field. Aiming to identify and discuss whether the perception of one's own career has some relation to the identification of needs for continuing education, we focus attention on Physical Education professionals of the Municipal Office on Sports Leisure and Recreation of Sao Paulo because they are tied to a program that has been implemented since 2007 - the Club School Program. The research methodology is qualitative, with phenomenological orientation, having ninety-four, among the one hundred seventy-three professionals working in the Clube Escola, responded to a questionnaire with two open questions. It was identified that 70% of the professionals interviewed are satisfied with their current time in their career, 72% think the continuing education is important and, in general, the professionals that are satisfied with their career, are willing to remain in constant retraining when encouraged to do so. It was concluded that the positive perception about professional career appears to be related directly to the professionals’ inclination to keep participating in actions aimed at their continuing education. Moreover, this research has taken the first steps in professional careers in Physical Education and it is recommended to invest in more studies outside the subject of Scholar Physical Education.
