TL;DR: In this paper, the authors identify the vulnerabilities in the autonomy and independence that are interweave on cognitive and depressive symptoms in elderly people and conclude that the presence of cognitive alterations was a predictor of the greater presence of depressive symptoms.
Abstract: The present study aims to identify the vulnerabilities in the autonomy and independence that are interweave on cognitive and depressive symptoms in elderly people. The sample was comprised by 20 participants of both sexes, aged 62 or over. The participants were assessed by the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE), the Geriatric Depression Scale (EDG) abbreviated with 15 items and semi-structured interviews. The results showed that all individuals had negative perceptions about impairments in autonomy and independence, it was also verified that the elderly showed a decrease in daily activities. Among the participants, 55% had impaired cognitive indicators and 30% had depressive symptoms. The amount of depressive symptoms in individuals who presented cognitive impairment was 30% higher. We concluded that the presence of cognitive alterations was a predictor of the greater presence of depressive symptoms. The presence of cognitive alterations and depressive symptoms were correlated with vulnerability on the autonomy and independence of elderly people, which are aspects with direct influence on the quality of life and well-being of the long-lived population.

TL;DR: In this paper, a double-blind, placebo controlled and randomized experimental design was used to evaluate the effects of cafeina on total time to exhaustion and other metabolic parameters, and concluded that a 6mg/kg caffeine dose is adequate to improve total time-to- exhaustion without changing other important physiologic parameters of runners.
ABSTRACT Caffeine supplementation (6mg/kg) improves total time to exhaustion in a fixed speed protocol, without physiological alterations in runners Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of caffeine on total time to exhaustion and other metabolic parameters. Materials and methods: A double-blind, placebo controlled and randomized experimental design was used in this investigation. In two different sessions, 5 male (25 ± 5 years old) ingested 6mg of caffeine/kg in capsules or placebo in a double blinded manner. The subjects were submitted to an incremental test until to exhaustion on a fixed speed of 10% above lactate threshold, variables were collected every 3 minutes until exhaustion. Individual total time, heart rate, rating of perceived exertion and lactate were measured. Results: Our results show increased exhaustion time for caffeine supplementation than placebo (13.2 ± 2.68 min. caffeine vs 9 ± 3 min. placebo, p<0.01), with no other significant changes for lactate, heart rate or perceived exertion. Conclusion: We concluded that a 6mg/kg caffeine dose is adequate to improve total time to exhaustion without changing other important physiologic parameters of runners.

TL;DR: Using the BSP/CGM model, with p processors, a parallel algorithm to compute the transitive closure of a digraph with n vertices and m edges is presented and presents very promising implementation results.
Abstract: Using the BSP/CGM model, with $$p$$ processors, where $$p \ll n$$ , we present a parallel algorithm to compute the transitive closure of a digraph $$D$$ with $$n$$ vertices and $$m$$ edges. Our algorithm uses $$\log p + 1$$ communication rounds if the input is an acyclic directed graph labeled using a linear extension. For general digraphs, the algorithm requires $$p$$ communication rounds in the worst case. In both cases, $$O(M/p)$$ local computation is performed per round, where $$M$$ is the amount of computation needed to compute a sequential transitive closure of a digraph. The presented algorithm can be implemented using any sequential algorithm that computes the transitive closure of a digraph $$D$$ . We have implemented the algorithm using the Warshall transitive closure algorithm on two Beowulf clusters using MPI. The implementation results show its efficiency and scalability. It also compares favorably with other parallel implementations. The worst case (communication rounds) for a digraph was derived through an artificially elaborated example. However, in all our test cases, the algorithm never requires more than $$\log p + 1$$ communication rounds and presents very promising implementation results. The algorithm also can be applied to any $$n \times n$$ matrix that represents a binary relation.

TL;DR: In this article, a report of experience aims to re-signify the practice of pedagogy of dance, in a dialogical relationship between teacher and student, identifying the redefining the dance content with an experience that transcends the "Know-how", and an opportunity to reflect on the gender aspects, sexuality and religious diversity.
Abstract: Physical education has had and remains a strong predominance of sports contents at school. From the 1990s, new contributions emerge in physical education, with new themes / content in the classes. However, the dance still infrequent in school’s physical education classes. This report of experience aims to re-signify the practice of pedagogy of dance, in a dialogical relationship between teacher and student. The analysis was based on an Interdisciplinary Project where lived two contents: the “quadrilha” and the “carimbo”. We identified the redefining the dance content with an experience that transcends the "Know-how", and an opportunity to reflect on the gender aspects, sexuality and religious diversity.
