TL;DR: Resistance training seems to be a potential treatment for reducing the deleterious effects of aging on the aortic wall by reducing the thickness, normalising the elastic material, the collagen and the smooth muscle cells.
Abstract: The objective of the present study was to follow the structural modifications of the aortic wall in middle-aged rats submitted to a resistance training protocol for a period of four months. Three groups of 8 animals per group were considered: middle-aged group (MA), old control group (OC) and old trained group (OT). Training consisted in to climb a 1.1-m vertical (80° incline) ladder with weights tied to their tail. Aortic wall structural modifications were studied through light and electron microscopy and morphometry. The mean arterial blood pressure at rest was similar in the three experimental groups (p = .07). At the beginning of the experiment, the OC and OT groups had similar repetition maximums, ranging from 1.6-fold to 1.9-fold the body weight. At the end of the experiment, the repetition maximum of the OT group was 5-fold greater than the body weight (p = .03). The LV weight was 15% larger in the OT group than in the MA group and 12% larger than in the OC group (p = .02). The LV wall thickness of the OT group was significantly larger than that of both, the MA group and the OC group (p = .03). The LV internal diameter in the OT group was significantly smaller than that observed in the MA and OC groups (p = .02). Resistance training diminished the alterations associated with aging improving aortic wall structure by reducing the thickness, normalising the elastic material, the collagen and the smooth muscle cells. Resistance training seems to be a potential treatment for reducing the deleterious effects of aging on the aortic wall.

TL;DR: In this paper, a sessao de exercicios resistidos for diferentes grupos musculares, realizados com sobrecarga de 60% da forca maxima, was evaluated.
A PAS aumentou durante o exercicio e a PAD diminuiu.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors build a question in the kantian philosophy about the necessity to comprehend the critical project also as a political project, in which the practical faculty of judgment, in its reflexive and determining activity, would unify the political and juridical elements that find its counterpart in the so-called critical epoch.
Abstract: Using the concepts of enlightenment and autonomy, the aim of this article is to build a question in the kantian philosophy about the necessity to comprehend the critical project also as a political project. However, to do so it is required to confront the contemporary tradition that begins with Hegel and persist until Habermas, in which the idea of Critique is regarded as an empty and passive element (since grounded in the abstraction of the moral law). The article will point out an interpretation in which the practical faculty of judgment, in its reflexive and determining activity, would unify the political and juridical elements that find its counterpart in the so called “critical epoch”.

TL;DR: The data suggest, as nonpharmacological treatment, the walking (low intensity) is the most efficient, able to reverse the alterations caused by metabolic syndrome, the results being approximate to those of control group.
Abstract: Introduction: Metabolic syndrome (MS) corresponds to a sum of alteration in which, glucose intolerance is characterized as one of the most important. Among these are included: insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, obesity, dyslipidemia, endothelial dysfunction and others Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is also currently cited as a risk factor for MS Studies have demonstrated a strong correlation between physical inactivity and MS. The aim of this paper was to evaluate the effects of aerobic exercise training of different intensities on the liver of metabolic syndrome rats. Methods: 20 male Wistar rats were used and divided into four groups (n=5): control (C) sedentary MS (MS), walking MS (WMS) and running MS (RMS). Fructose-drinking rats received D-fructose (100 g/l). MS Training rats were assigned to a treadmill training protocol at low and moderate intensity during 1 h/day, 5 days/week for 8 weeks. At the end of the experiment, the livers were collected and submitted to a histological technique (HE). The images were captured and morphometric and stereological analysis of the hepatic tissue were performed. Results: It was verified that MS promoted a hypertrophy of the hepatocytes, a significant increase in the density volume of the hepatocytes, of the Kupffer cells, and hepatic sinusoids, and that, in both intensities (Running and Walking) the exercise training has mitigated the alterations. Conclusions: The data suggest, as nonpharmacological treatment, the walking (low intensity) is the most eficient, able to reverse the alterations caused by metabolic syndrome, the results being approximate to those of control group.
