TL;DR: In this paper, a cross-sectional study with a retro-analytical component, in which data were obtained from the medical records of seven athletes participating in the project “Karate Sao Paulo Olimpico” (Sao Paulo Olympic Karate) (KSPO), during their nutrition counseling, including body composition and indirect calorimetry testing, with the aim of comparing these data to basal metabolic rate prediction equations.
EnglishIntroduction: karate is a millennial martial art, currently inserted in the context of Olympic Combat Sports. However, important scientific gaps still persist in monitoring high-performance athletes, including the basal metabolism measurement of female karate athletes. Aim: to contribute to understanding the applicability of equations for predicting basal metabolic rate in this population. Methods: this is a cross-sectional study with a retro-analytical component, in which data were obtained from the medical records of seven athletes participating in the project “Karate Sao Paulo Olimpico” (Sao Paulo Olympic Karate) (KSPO) during their nutrition counseling, including body composition and indirect calorimetry testing, with the aim of comparing these data to basal metabolic rate prediction equations. Results: only one out of the five evaluated equations did not have a significant statistical difference relative to the value obtained by open-circuit indirect calorimetry. Conclusion: in case basal metabolism cannot be measured through standard methodology (calorimetry), Cunningham’s prediction equation (1980) would be appropriate to obtain total energy expenditure for high-performance female karate athletes.

TL;DR: The body image distortion identified by these older adults did not interfere with their perception ofQoL, however, when NS was considered, overweight older adults had a higher perception of QoL.
Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the body image and nutritional status (NS) of older adults aged 80 and over and its relation with quality of life (QoL). Method: A cross-sectional, quantitative study, with no intervention, using non-probabilistic sampling, was conducted from October 2016 to September 2017 with 103 older individuals aged ≥80 years old from the state of Sao Paulo. NS was evaluated according to OPAS/SABE; body image was evaluated by the Kakeshita fifteen silhouette scale, and the WHOQoL-bref and WHOQoL-old were used to measure QoL. The Chi-square test was used to verify the association between the studied variables and sex. To compare QoL with nutritional status and body image, the ANOVA Factor test was used. The level of significance was 5% (p<0.05). Results: The majority of the interviewees were female (69.2%) and the average age was 82.75 (±2.98). When comparing the perception of QoL with NS, there was a significant difference (p=0.027) in the self-evaluation of QoL of obese older adults only. The QoL related to body image of both sexes presented a significant difference (p=0.020) in the environmental domain of the WHOQoL-bref in the evaluation of body satisfaction. Conclusion: The body image distortion identified by these older adults did not interfere with their perception of QoL. However, when NS was considered, overweight older adults had a higher perception of QoL.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of AGE-albumin on cholesterol efflux and inflammatory cytokine secretion in macrophages was evaluated. And the authors concluded that AGE has a persistent deleterious effect on macrophage lipid homeostasis and inflammation.
Abstract: Advanced glycated albumin (AGE-albumin) impairs cholesterol efflux and contributes to inflammation in macrophages. The current study evaluated: (1) the persistence of the deleterious effect of AGE-albumin in cholesterol efflux and in inflammation, and (2) how metabolic control in diabetes mellitus (DM) contributes to attenuate the deleterious role of AGE-albumin in macrophage cholesterol homeostasis. Methods: AGE-albumin was produced in vitro or isolated from uncontrolled DM subjects’ serum before (bGC) and after improved glycemic control (aGC). Albumin samples were incubated with bone marrow-derived macrophages and 14C-cholesterol efflux or LPS- induced cytokine secretion were determined immediately, or after cell resting in culture media alone. The ABCA-1 degradation rate was determined after cell incubation with cycloheximide, and ABCA1 protein level by immunoblot. Oil Red O staining was used to assess intracellular lipid accumulation. Results: A persistent effect of AGE-albumin was observed in macrophages in terms of the secretion of inflammatory cytokines and reduced cholesterol efflux. HDL-mediated 14C-cholesterol efflux was at least two times higher in macrophages treated with aCG-albumin as compared to bGC-albumin, and intracellular lipid content was significantly reduced in aGC-albumin-treated cells. As compared to bGC-albumin, the ABCA-1 protein content in whole cell bulk was 94% higher in aCG-albumin. A 20% increased ABCA-1 decay rate was observed in macrophages treated with albumin from poorly controlled DM. AGE-albumin has a persistent deleterious effect on macrophage lipid homeostasis and inflammation. The reduction of AGEs in albumin ameliorates cholesterol efflux.

TL;DR: The literature showed that signs of TMD in cerebral palsy may be prevalent in severe clinical forms which can make cervical control more difficult and lead to postural deviations.
Abstract: Introduction: In cerebral palsy the greater neurologically compromised patients have the highest functional involvement of the masticatory system and the highest structural involvement of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). These conditions contribute to the likelihood of the onset of articular and muscular disorders. These disorders affect the orofacial region and can cause pain, audible noise upon articulation, irregular mandibular functions with deviations, known as Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunctions (TMD). Traditionally, clinical studies have been limited to articular restrictions in detriment to the various neurological and motor clinical aspects. The objective of this research is to examine studies which investigated the prevalence of TMD signs in cerebral palsy, as well as studies about several aspects of the pathology surrounding TMD, including functional, structural, neurological, and clinical aspects. Materials and Methods: We carried out literature review of several studies published between 1976 and 2014. Scielo, MEDLINE, PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL, DARE, Psych Info, ERIC, AMI, Cochrane, and PEDro databases were used to research literature on TMD using the following keywords without restrictions: cerebral palsy, temporomandibular disorders, and rehabilitation. Results: The literature showed that signs of TMD in cerebral palsy may be prevalent in severe clinical forms which can make cervical control more difficult and lead to postural deviations. Conclusion: Craniometric changes in head circunference may limit TMJ and occlusion movements, worsened by hypertonia and asymmetry in the pterygoid and masseter muscles. Children with swallowing and oropharyngeal dificulties are more likely to show signs of TMD.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors identify effects in the separation of the vocational training in the Physical Education, from the resolution 1 and 2 of 2002 and 7 of 2004, with focused on the undergraduate course.
Abstract: The current study is meant to identify effects in the separation of the vocational training in the Physical Education, from the resolution 1 and 2 of 2002 and 7 of 2004, with focused on the undergraduate course. The research involved 251 graduated students in the new course and 280 graduated students in the old course, besides the coordinator from other college. It was used a questionnaire for the students and an interview for the coordinator. The analysis statistic accomplished is the test o f a proportion in relation to a reference. The students understand that the course has privileged educational aspects allowing a big relation between the subjects, favoring an integrated knowledge and not fragmented as it was shown by the old students of the old course; there is a relation between the theoretical knowledge with the teaching practice and aptitude to act in the school, proving differences among the courses. Some settlings are necessaries like: adaptation of equipments and places; organization of the plannings; operation and school management.
