TL;DR: There are slim correlations between the clinical test and force platform variables, showing that each test measures different parameters.
Abstract: The aging process can alter the organization of postural control causing instability; literature shows several equipment and clinical tests whose purpose is to measure postural balance, involving different protocols and methodologies. Objective: To evaluate postural balance during the task to walk over the force platform (turn and return) and its relationship with clinic balance test (BESTest) in older adults. Methods: 60 older people of both sexes, aged 60 to 79 years, were tested in the force platform (NeuroCom Balance) and BESTest to evaluate postural balance. Results: negative correlations were found when comparing domains of the clinical test with stabilometric parameters in time and velocity variables of the tests Step/Quick turn. The highest correlations were in the total score (time spent to perform the task − 0.41, and in the velocity left side − 0.33/right side − 0.43), as well as in the stability limit (time spent to perform the task left side − 0.34/right side − 0.37, and the equilibrium velocity left side − 0.37/right side − 0.43). Conclusion: There are slim correlations between the clinical test and force platform variables, showing that each test measures different parameters. Level of evidence II, Diagnostic study - investigating a diagnostic test.

TL;DR: Challenges of conducting a multicenter, cross-sectional study of countries with diverse cultures offer great potential for building a scientific base for studies on nutrition, physical activity, and other health topics, while facilitating comparisons among countries.
Abstract: This report examines the challenges of conducting a multicenter, cross-sectional study of countries with diverse cultures, and shares the lessons learned. The Latin American Study of Nutrition and Health (ELANS) was used as a feasibility study involving the most populous cities of eight countries in Latin America (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela) in 2014–2015, about 40% of the population of the Americas. The target sample included 9 000 individuals, 15–65 years of age, and was stratified by geographic location (only urban areas), gender, age, and socioeconomic status. Six principal challenges were identified: team structuring and site selections; developing a single protocol; obtaining ethic approvals; completing simultaneous fieldwork; ensuring data quality; and extracting data and maintaining consistency across databases. Lessons learned show that harmonization, pilot study, uniformity of procedures, high data quality control, and communication and collaboration across sites are imperative. Barriers included organizational complexity, recruitment of collaborators and research staff, institutional cooperation, development of infrastructure, and identification of resources. Consensus on uniform measures and outcomes and data collection methodology, as well as a plan for data management and analysis, communication, publication, and dissemination of study results should be in place prior to beginning fieldwork. While challenging, such studies offer great potential for building a scientific base for studies on nutrition, physical activity, and other health topics, while facilitating comparisons among countries.

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of WB-EMS with body weight training on functional fitness and body composition of older men were analyzed and the results showed that the WB+WB-EMS group showed an increased performance in the 30-s chair stand test (10.2 ± 3.3 vs. 13.8 ± 5.0), arm curl (16.6 ± 3 vs. 19.9 ± 6.1), 6-min walk test (402 ± 96 vs. 500 ± 104 m), and handgrip strength test (30 ± 11 vs. 32 ±
Abstract: Objective: To analyze the effects of whole body electrostimulation (WB-EMS) with body weight training on functional fitness and body composition of older men. Methods: Twenty physically inactive older men were randomized into: Control group (control), performed the body weight exercise training wearing electrostimulation clothing, but without receiving electrical current stimuli (n = 10), and body weight associated with whole body electrostimulation group (BW+WB-EMS), performed the body weight exercise training wearing electrostimulation clothing plus whole body electrostimulation (n = 10). The training sessions were performed twice a week for 6 weeks and included eight exercises using body weight, performed in two sets of eight repetitions. Physical function was assessed using a battery composed of seven tests, six derived from the Senior fitness test and a handgrip strength test. We also measured the muscle thickness (MT) of the biceps and triceps brachii and vastus lateralis. Results: The BW+WB-EMS group presented increased (p < 0.05) performance in the 30-s chair stand test (10.2 ± 3.3 vs. 13.8 ± 5.0 reps), arm curl (16.6 ± 3.9 vs. 19.9 ± 6.1 reps), 6-min walk test (402 ± 96 vs. 500 ± 104 m), and handgrip strength test (30 ± 11 vs. 32 ± 11 kgf). The BW+WB-EMS group also presented increased MT (p < 0.05) in the biceps brachii (17.7 ± 3.0 vs. 21.4 ± 3.4 mm), triceps brachial (14.7 ± 3.6 vs. 17.5 ± 4.1 mm), and vastus lateralis muscles (15.1 ± 2.6 vs. 18.6 ± 4.3 mm). Moderate correlations were found in arm curl (p = 0.011, r = 0.552) but not handgrip strength (p = 0.053, r = 0.439) with changes in the biceps MT. Moderate changes in the 6-min walk distance were significantly correlated with changes in vastus lateralis MT (p = 0.036, r = 0.471). There was a moderate correlation between the changes in the 30-s chair stand test (p = 0.006, r = 0.589) and changes in the vastus lateralis MT. Furthermore, although a moderate correlation (r = 0.438) was found between triceps MT and handgrip strength no significant difference (p = 0.053) was reported. Additionally, there were no statistical differences in any parameters for the control group. Conclusion: WB-EMS with body weight training increased functional fitness and MT in physically inactive older men.

TL;DR: In this article, the most important apprenticeship content for the students in this semester was sport, confirming the permanence of sport in the physical education image, interpreted as a strong social representation component.
Abstract: For the majority of Brazilian adults, remind the School Physical Education, let them remember the traditional sports worked as important content in the classes. As a school teacher, we fell some needs to investigate if this social representation of the adults remains on the students mind. So, this paper aims at investigating what are appreciated contents in the school physical education. The samples were eighty seven, which are students from sixth to ninth grade of elementary school, in the first semester, at private school, located in the east of the Sao Paulo City. This is a qualitative study, descriptive type. The students answered for the question: What do you think is important in the physical education classes? Why? The answers were registered, written out, analyzed and interpreted. The results showed us that the most important apprenticeship content for the students in this semester was sport, confirming the permanence of sport in the physical education image, interpreted as a strong social representation component. Well-being and physical development had been mentioned few times than sports. From these results, it is possible to reflect on the reasons that the others physical education contents no yet attained the students as the same importance that sports.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluated and compared the flow characteristics of granulates destined to the development of tablets of hydrochlorothiazide 50 mg. The obtained granulates presented good flow and compressibility properties, characterized by: values of compressibility index between 5 and 15; Hausner ratio less than 1,25 and angle of repose between 30 and 35o.
Abstract: The wet granulation process still finds large applicability close to the modern pharmaceutical industry for the production of tablets, because it eliminates some of the main attributed problems of the direct compression: the segregation tendency and the low flow properties of the powders during the process. The present work evaluates and it compares through micromeritical studies and statistical analysis the flow characteristics of granulates destined to the development of tablets of hydrochlorothiazide 50 mg. Three binders were tested (paste of starch and the aqueous dispersions, prepared to cold, of pregelatinized starch and povidone). It was still evaluated the compatibility between the drug and the employed excipients, through termoanalytical studies (DSC), and the influence of the extra granular addition of the "superdisintegrant" crospovidone in the values of dissolution efficiency (%DE) of the obtained tablets. The obtained granulates presented good flow and compressibility properties, characterized by: values of compressibility index between 5 and 15; Hausner ratio less than 1,25 and angle of repose between 30 and 35o. The crospovidone addition did not increase the values of %ED of the developed formulations, in the experimental conditions employed, although it has reduced, in way a low significance, the disintegration times of the formulations.
