TL;DR: The data suggests that knee O, in older women, can promote a decline in time spent performing physical activity and functional fitness with decline in quality of life with an increase in sitting time.
Abstract: Aim. Utilizing a cross-sectional case control design, the aim of this study was to evaluate the functional fitness and self-reported quality of life differences in older people diagnosed with knee osteoarthrosis (O) who participated in health promotion groups. Methods. Ninety older women were distributed into two groups: control without O of the knee (C, n = 40) and a group diagnosed with primary and secondary knee O with grade II or higher, with definite osteophytes (OA, n = 50). Functional fitness was evaluated by specific tests, and the time spent in physical activity and quality of life was evaluated by the IPAQ and WHOQOL (distributed in four domains: physical: P, psychological: PS, social: S, and environmental: E) domain questionnaires. Results. No differences were found between ages of groups (C: 66 ± 7; OA: 67 ± 9; years). The values of the chair stand test (rep) in the OA (13 ± 5) group were different when compared to C group (22 ± 5). For the 6-minute walk test (meters), the values obtained for the C (635 ± 142) were higher (P < 0.01) than the OA (297 ± 143) group. The time spent in physical activity (min) was greater (P < 0.001) in the control (220 ± 12) group compared to OA (100 ± 10) group. Higher values (P < 0.001) in all domains were found in the C (P: 69 ± 16, PS: 72 ± 17, S: 67 ± 15, E: 70 ± 15) group compared to OA (P: 48 ± 7, PS: 43 ± 8, S: 53 ± 13, E: 47 ± 14) group. Conclusion. Our data suggests that knee O, in older women, can promote a decline in time spent performing physical activity and functional fitness with decline in quality of life with an increase in sitting time.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present results of a research that aimed to understand the conceptions of higher education teachers in maturity about the relationship of aging and work, and demonstrate the teaching work related to pleasure and the possibility of contributing to a better society.
Abstract: This study presents results of a research that aimed to understand the conceptions of higher education teachers in maturity about the relationship of aging and work. A descriptive study with a qualitative approach was carried out with 10 university professors from the state of Sao Paulo. Data analysis was based on the multiple case study technique. It was observed that teachers associated different perceptions of aging linked to losses and gains. They demonstrated the teaching work related to pleasure and the possibility of contributing to a better society. It is concluded that it is necessary to expand the theme in new research

TL;DR: The results suggest that despite the increase in all social classes, overweight and obesity prevalence were more present in those with higher economic status, confirming therefore a socioeconomic relationship.
Abstract: introduction: epidemiological data indicate that childhood obesity is increasing in brazil and is identified as a risk factor for early development of chronic diseases. obesity has been characterized by increased adipose tissue and body weight. objective: to diagnose and compare the prevalence of overweight and obesity in schoolchildren from public (ePu) and private (ePr) schools. Methods: anthropometrics variables (bMi and doc [skin folds]) were evaluated in boys (n=91) and girls (n=109) between 8 and 10 years old. there was a higher prevalence of overweight in boys (19.6%) and girls (25.5%) of the ePr compared to boys (6.7%) and girls (8.1%) of the ePu. the obesity level was higher in boys (34.8%) and girls (31.9%) of the ePr compared to boys (6.7%) and girls (6.5%) of the ePu. Positive correlation was obtained between the variables bMi and % body fat in boys (r=0.82) and girls (r=0.85). results: the results suggest that despite the increase in all social classes, overweight and obesity prevalence were more present in those with higher economic status, confirming therefore a socioeconomic relationship. this finding may lead to a health condition closest to the negative pole. conclusion: the bMi analysis proved to be an index for efficient determination of overweight and obesity in children.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors identify the profile of the new pupils of 2004 in a Bachelor course of a private university of Sao Paulo and the motives for choosing the Physical Education course, and the results suggest the necessity of a bigger number of initiatives that guide to a more cient choice on this career.
Abstract: This work had for objective to identify the profile of the new pupils of 2004 in a Bachelor course of a private university of Sao Paulo and the motives for choosing the Physical Education course. A questionnaire of 11 questions was used (10 closed questions and 01 opened), and the sample was 173 individuals (60.11% men and 39.88% women). The identified profile was: predominance of the masculine sex, average age of 19,66 years, proceeding from public school, attending their first college course, they had attended to the classes of Physical Education (PE) in Basic School and in the Medium regularly, they had not received significant influence from their PE teachers to opt for the course. The majority of the mentioned reasons of the choice were the previous and the the current practical experiences of physical activities. Few (4,6%) had expressed concern in contributing for the progress of the profession properly said and to devote their performance to take care of to the necessities of their future customers (13,85%). The results suggest the necessity of a bigger number of initiatives that guide to a more cient choice on this career.

TL;DR: The multiple linear regression model showed that the body composition and the anthropometry were able to explain only men’s postural sway, which is sex type dependent.
Abstract: Introduction: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the influence of body composition on the postural sway during quiet standing Our hypothesis is that men and women do not have the same relation between body composition and postural sway during quiet standing Materials and Methods: Participated in the study 50 men and 50 women; age range: 20-40 years old The main outcome measures were: Body composition (bone densitometry), percentage of fat (% fat) tissue (g), fat (g), lean mass (g), bone mineral content (g) and bone mineral density (g/cm2); Anthropometry: body mass (kg), height (cm), length of the trunk-head (cm), length of lower limbs (cm) The following indices were calculated: body mass index (BMI) (kg/m2) and Postural balance test - center ofpressure displacement Results: The correlation analysis showed low correlations between postural sway and anthropometric variables The multiple linear regression model showed that the body composition and the anthropometry were able to explain only men's postural sway Conclusion: The postural sway is sex type dependent Men and women have different relations between body composition and postural sway Only male's body composition affected the body sway
