Abstract: This paper proposes a measure of dynamic comovement between (possibly many) time series and names it cohesion. The measure is defined in the frequency domain and is appropriate for processes that are costationary, possibly after suitable transformations. In the bivariate case, the measure reduces to dynamic correlation and is related, but not equal, to the well known quantities of coherence and coherency. Dynamic correlation on a frequency band equals (static) correlation of bandpass-filtered series. Moreover, long-run correlation and cohesion relate in a simple way to co-integration. Cohesion is useful to study problems of business-cycle synchronization, to investigate short-run and long-run dynamic properties of multiple time series, and to identify dynamic clusters. We use state income data for the United States and GDP data for European nations to provide an empirical illustration that is focused on the geographical aspects of business-cycle fluctuations.

Abstract: The use of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) for severe acute respiratory failure (ARF) in adults is growing rapidly given recent advances in technology, even though there is controversy regarding the evidence justifying its use. Because ECMO is a complex, high-risk, and costly modality, at present it should be conducted in centers with sufficient experience, volume, and expertise to ensure it is used safely. This position paper represents the consensus opinion of an international group of physicians and associated health-care workers who have expertise in therapeutic modalities used in the treatment of patients with severe ARF, with a focus on ECMO. The aim of this paper is to provide physicians, ECMO center directors and coordinators, hospital directors, health-care organizations, and regional, national, and international policy makers a description of the optimal approach to organizing ECMO programs for ARF in adult patients. Abstract: Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) accounts for 15% to 20% of breast cancers. It is a heterogeneous disease, not only on the molecular level, but also on the pathologic and clinical levels. TNBC is associated with a significantly higher probability of relapse and poorer overall survival in the first few years after diagnosis when compared with other breast cancer subtypes. This is observed despite its usual high sensitivity to chemotherapy. In the advanced setting, responses observed with chemotherapy lack durability. Early-stage clinical studies suggested impressive potential when a poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitor is given for the treatment of advanced TNBC with BRCA gene dysfunction. The molecular complexity of TNBC has led to proposed subclassifications, which will be of great value for the development of targeted therapies. In this review, we discuss the biology of TNBC at the pathologic and the molecular levels. We also elaborate on the role of systemic therapies and the results of the first phase III clinical trial evaluating the addition of iniparib, a novel investigational anticancer agent that does not possess characteristics typical of the PARP inhibitor class, in combination with chemotherapy in advanced TNBC.

Abstract: The surface charges associated with the symmetries of asymptotically flat four dimensional spacetimes at null infinity are constructed. They realize the symmetry algebra in general only up to a field-dependent central extension that satisfies a suitably generalized cocycle condition. This extension vanishes when using the globally well defined BMS algebra. For the Kerr black hole and the enlarged BMS algebra with both supertranslations and superrotations, some of the supertranslation charges diverge whereas there are no divergences for the superrotation charges. The central extension is proportional to the rotation parameter and involves divergent integrals on the sphere.
